Well for those of you up north who like a good old fashioned disco with flashing lights. Try the M1 from Notts to Leeds those speed cameras make it feel like the 70s all over again to get the strobe lights to work just hit 74 Entrance fee to disco is £100 plus 3 pints sorry points.

Easy money or what

Yep. It's those evil little buggers you have to watch out for. And the system is looking to be rolled out across the UK's motorway network in the next decade or two...

Does that mean you were 4 mile over the limit?

Variable speed one got me last year, hadn’t noticed that big 50 sign

Prefer A1 to M1, less roadworks less cameras.

i was under the impression the stealth cameras at the end of the gantrys were only activated when the speed was reduced and showing 60 , 50 , 40 or whatever

Not yet only got flashed this am as so did half the cars driving. Was like a fireworks show The camera have only just been set to 24/7 this week where as before they were intermittent and the speed activation has also been lowered so anyone traveling just be careful of them

The cameras are to the side of the gantrys on the support off the hard shoulder. Yellow boxes. They now work 24/7 no matter whaT the speed limit is set to. Over the past year they have never really activated unless you were close to 80 and even then they were only on intermittently. Now on full time

was also under the impression theres a 10% lenency for accuracy problems and car speedos not being accurate

youll notive if your speedo says 70 your sat nav which is probably more accurate will be showing a lesser speed

ie 70 =77

50 = 55

etc etc

worth appealing ?

wasnt exactly a law breaking dangerous speed !!!

i also thought one was allowed to speed up briefly to overtake for example before pulling back in safely and returning to 70 speed

I wouldn't mention the dash cam, if it shows you at 74, because you will just convict yourself..

The 10% leeway is to allow for an error with your Speedo, so you need to say that your Speedo said you were doing 70.

The cameras aren’t new but the the way they now operate is. They were originally intermittent in how they were used but now the are active 24/7 since Monday

I know from experience where South Yorkshire police are concerned they rule the roost. If you do want to fight it you’d need stats and test results from your car manufacturer and that would be more expensive than the fine

It’s a sad day for the development of our species when people are surprised they got flashed when going too fast through a speed camera.

In other news: putting your fingers in boiling water hurts.

Because you're disputing the fact that you were speeding? If you say you were doing 74mph, there is no dispute. You are speeding, so convicting yourself.
