"Noel Gallagher and U2 hmmmmmm not sure about him/them"

Noel Gallagher is outstanding. I will be buying his latest album and NO I haven't got any Oasis albums.

It's not all about the music alone although his latest work is phenomenal in many ways.

U2 was an obvious win, anyone who's been to one of there live shows will know, I've been following their live shows since Joshua Tree

I do like that Lana Del Rey though

They play her song 'Video Games' quite a bit on XFM, but not heard it played much on any of the more commercial stations.

"Icon a person or thing regarded as a representative symbol or as worthy of veneration - Noel Gallagher hmmm"

Why would he NOT be worthy? That's a question for you.

I'm not a fan of Oasis, never bought anything of theirs or downloaded anything but that doesn't stop me recognising their contribution over the past 20 years at least.

Just listening to Noel talk is like listening to a poet. He's deep. He's talented and incredibly humble.

I'd agree that if you simply retain the media hype and bullshit that's written to sell papers and base his talent on that alone than you are going to question the bestowing of the title 'icon'. For me there is no reason to question it. He's an icon of his time and his industry.

Seriously ....listen to the lyric of songs from 'High flying birds'

Wath programmes or listen to recordings of him. You may be pleasantly surprised.

I think he lacks the arrogance to attach a title like that to himself but it's one he deserves.

King's Crustacean

Apart from anything else he has grown and grown up.

He's not the raw Manchester kid he was all those years ago.

Ahhhhhh I don't know about Liam. I quite like to listen to him but he hasn't done anything to raise my interest in him whereas Noel has. I feel Noel is changing and making music to suit his place in life now.

I forgive you totally x I'll even loan you my C.D :P x

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

They are titled the Q awards, so are tailored towards the tastes of their readership.

Not sure what OP's issue is...Coldplay are popular, irrespective of his (implied) views. Therefore, they win awards.

I believe so

From what I can find on the net, readers post who they feel has contributed in each category.

From that, a short list of finalists is drawn up (I assume based on the number of open votes posted) and the readers are invited to vote on the shortlisted finalists in each category.

Seems fair enough I guess but the results are based only on the demographic of Q readers.(I suppose in the same way that The Brits, Mobo's, MTV awards etc are for their respective audiences).

Q readers evidently like Coldplay

Why do you think they are not 'The best band in the world ?

There is no such thing as best band in the world as there is no such thing as best movie food etc. We all have different tastes so all this best stuff is irrelevant if you really think about it.

"Seems so.

I've just never really 'got' them

I don't find anything unique or special about them at all and have never really understood their rise to the upper echelons of musical fame.

That is a purely a personal view and I can readily accept that others will think differently.

For me, and for the reasons above, that award was the one that stood out above the others as a 'really?'

Some of the other choices also remain questionable and I am afraid I haven't even heard of one of the acts

Smooth FM is all I have on at home.

It seems to have that combination of music to chill and read a back too mixed with music you can sing your tits off to.

I like nothing more on the nights in on my own to sit in the bedroom snuggled into my big leather armchair, lamp on, brew on the side, laptop or book on knee and Smooth on in the background.

Then I can just sit and while the night away in a nice and chilled manner.

Jeez, I am seriously gettin old

personally I'm not a music person really, dont mind it socially but never bought anything dont listen to anything on my own, in fact I find most heavy music lovers bizarre, especially those who become so snobby in their outlooks(theres bad music and theres bad music (chipmunk techno mainly, heavy thrashmetal shit)...but what I dont get at all is many music lovers aversion to:

ABBA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love almost all of the songs, even didnt mind mamma mia!!!!

I have an eclectic taste in music and can appreciate "real musicians" as well as the pretend ones, they all have a place on my ipod depending on my mood...coldplay included...snow patrol have written some beautiful songs, as has Noel Gallagher, i for one agree with granny on that. Im not a fan of Adele as i have listened to her two albums and personally cant understand what all the fuss is about but she is popular...and rolling in the deep is a catchy tune.I think everyone appreciates music at some time in their life as it provided a soundtrack to memories and people and places

I like the way Noel Gallacher is maturing s`well...he`s a good lyricist and has a poets eye...could be interesting to see his development..

Love Lana Del Ray`s single....excellent..

I don`t know what Q is...a mag ?

Some dubious awards...Coldplay and U2...but thats my prejudice...pretentious wankers fer me ...

Anyhows..
