I didn’t know that the hole in the top of a pen cap (say biro or similar) is a health and safety feature, in the event that a child swallows it, so air can still pass through!
Well I never.
Any more “things people might not know”? |

The man who invented the cats eyes you see in the middle of road was called Sir Roger Cateye, ironically he was allergic to cats but had 28 West highland terriers, all of whom were named after all the American states. His Favorite was Maine. |

Did you know: The chainsaw actually began life as a surgical instrument (yes, I shit you not!)
It was originally used for symphysiotomy’s, a procedure employed to widen the pelvis to assist in childbirth.
Next time, be sure to join me again when I shall be exploring the highly fascinating origin of garden shears.... |

I remember growing up with fully enclosed lids.
I found out a few years back the hole was there for h&s reasons.
I don't have any amazing facts to contribute I'm afraid. |

There's a brilliant book called "Pitch Invasion: Adidas & the Making of Modern Sport" that tells the story - a thoroughly recommended read |

Just discovered a couple of months ago that next to the little fuel gauge symbol on your car's dashboard there's an arrow that points either left or right, and that tells you which side of your car the fuel filler cap is on. I haven't been driving long but how I never knew this I don't know. |

"Never knew that some people liked the phantom menace"
An edit of the phantom menace exists with jar jar almost entirely taken out of it and it's actually, believe it or not, a half decent film
Similarly, it is widely accepted among fans that the best version of the original trilogy of films is actually one done by an incredibly anal set of fans who have remastered them all back to the original state they were in when they were released. They are clearly much better than anything currently officially released. Search for the despecialised edit if you want to check them out. Crazy that the studio hasn't matched them yet |

The average human body secretes 26 GALLONS of sweat on their mattress per year.
I would assume the swinging comunity would see an increase of that amount |

The founders of Boots the chemist and Timothy Whites were brothers who had a falling out with their father.
My grandfather worked for their father. When the brothers father passed away his land was sold off. The local council built houses on it and all of the roads on the estate are named after the families who worked for the old man.
I only found this out when looking through my late fathers photo album and seeing a picture of him, leaning against a street sign bearing the family name. |
