Some brilliant & gripping story lines in recent years.
I think they make a great job of highlighting various issues that are current and prominent with today's society.
Which of the soaps would handle a swinging storyline the best? Do you think its about time that swinging became less of a taboo in this modern world we live in? |

"all soaps have an element of swinging in them, every other month the characters are pairing off with someone else
"
good point, not seen anyone buy any condoms in Rita's Cabin or talk of a GUM clinic mind. |

"Corry would probably do it the best. It wouldnt go down well in Emmerdale, poor Edna would have a heart attack
I can't look at Edna the same after seeing her in Personal Services!"
Havent seen that, but she used to be Hyasinth Bucket's slapper sister in Keeping Up Appearences! |

Eastenders is the singular most boring, most dreary programme ever filmed in the entire history of television. If that programme is sold abroad as an indicative reflection of life in London, London's tourism would drop by about 90%!
As for swinging in Eastenders, with all them nutters around I daren't let any of them loose with Siren, nor want to shag anyone else's missus for fear of reprisal attacks and bunnies nailed to my door! |

I think you are overselling them there...
I really fail to see how anyone would choose to watch Eastenders or Corry, that's what 4 or 5 hours of your week wasted. It's just drivel, and shit acting and writing.
As for a swinging story line, I guess that it would all go horribly wrong (I mean it's a soap and is designed to be depressing) and would use some cringeworthy sterotypes. Doesn;t even bare thinking about. |

I havent watched the soaps for years. Last time I saw Corrie was that train crash and the last time I saw Eastenders was when Tamzin Outhwaite married Ian Beale and then left him shortly afterwards, during the wedding reception I think.
So I dont watch avidly. But I used to watch Corrie regularly when I was a teen. Looking back, Ken and Deirdre are the most likely swinging characters. I couldnt bear to watch it though. It always horrified me when Ken kissed other women, or you saw them going upstairs, so I cant imagine watching him looking into Steve Macdonalds eyes as they spitroast Deirdre together |

I personally am not a fan of soaps, so my knowledge of them is rather limited(plus I'm overtired, so it's entirely possible I'm imagining this)... but didn't corrie have a brief guest appearance a few years ago of Honor Blackman as a swinger who wanted a piece of Norris?
.....and cheers for that image Iconic |

The last time I watched Eastenders the gay Indian guys wife was driving off in a cab holding her stomach.
I'm an avid Corrie fan but sadly I will not waste time watching again. It's been testing over the months but the storyline of Chesney and Katie, the John Stape rubbish, Carla and Peter the ridiculous lesbian wedding...they've lost the plot.
There all at it in the soaps, what would be a twist is monogamy! |

If you want to see shit acting, watch Hollyoaks, they wasted their budget on make up and clothing instead of actors/actresses |

The idea that any of the soaps could carry such a storyline is hilarious, frankly. They don't do real life, just caricatures of real life.
Early period Brookie might have got away with it, before it got struck down with Casualty disease - with every storyline having to be more and more extreme. Let's face it, if you lived anywhere near Holby you wouldn't be able to sell your house because only a suicidal maniac would want to live in a city where there's a major incident every week, and Brookie had the same disease once they got addicted to being the centrepiece of the media news because of the rape storyline. Within eighteen months of the rape storyline Brookie had jumped the shark.... |

An early brookie fan fab!
When i got back to England i couldnt believe what they had done to my fave soap
And i agree they might have managed some kind of keys in the bowl house party quite well...in the early days...
Not a soap, but Shameless before it turned into a caricature of itself could have done something decent too. |

It's not suprising that there are so many mixed up people in this world.
Anyone who is a so inclined could be tipped over the edge when looking at some of the dark and sinister themes which run through most of the soaps.
Personally we never bother with them, but sonce we've had a family member staying with us for the past 3 weeks we've watched them with her and I (Bob) have been shocked at how sinister these soaps really can be ... even over the so called festive period, we see nothing but doom, gloom and nastiness |

Corri is great, always a chuckle in most episodes.
Nick would make a great swinger as would Eileen. Kevin would be the pushy single bloke.
The best swinging couple would have been Les and Janice Battersby...Not that I would.
We had a CD/TV in corri, bunny boilers, lesbians and gays.

I like Emmerdale and Corrie...
did watch June Brown in her Eastenders episode that she did alone... breathtaking acting.
a very worth BAFTA nomination, she was robbed. |

Soaps are supposed to reflect real life and social trends, however some people believe they are real and attempt to emulate what they see on the screen, then there are some who attempt to appear superior by denying watching soaps and denigrating those who do.
Soaps are escapism for many, and bubble gum for the brain to others. If they give you a little bit of humour insight or a feeling of being superior then they are serving their role of being a slice of life........ Maybe not your life, so be grateful! |
