Does anyone like Marzipan? I find it to be the most deceitful and stealthy of all the confectioneries.

If it's so good why is it always hidden under layers and layers of tasty icing.

What you need is a German cake called Stollen full of dried fruit with strips of marzipan running through it. No icing at all.

Helps the icing stick to the cake, also makes an even layer to ice.

I get mine from Home Bargains (munching one at the moment ) but they only sell the plain version. Lidl used to sell different flavours - rum & raisin, etc.

I love 'real' marzipan, made with almonds - not the fake stuff, made with apricot kernels.

I treat it like a sweet and have been known to roll it into marzipan balls.
