What's everybody doing for Mum's Day and how do you spoil your mum? Unfortunately my mum is 300 miles away so I can't be with her, but I have sent a beautiful card and flowers.
I've noticed an advert for a Dyson hairdryer at £300 as a suggestion to spoil your mum. Do people really spend that sort of money to show them you love them?

I guess being bombarded by reminders in the run up to the day can be really painful for some, as can looking on social media and feeling like every single person in the world except for you is enjoying a special day with their mum if you have lost her or are estranged  |

I don't have a mum and neither does my girl..... ......mothers day is always a bit weird, they have to make stuff at school and they tell her to "make it for you dad instead" so I got a pottery bear thing this year, but then it just makes you think about the person who should have received it....  |

I sometimes wish I could make a fuss for my mum on Mothering Sunday but I just can’t.
I’m childless not by choice. Spent 15 years of trying for children with recurrent miscarriages, failed adoption application, being refused ivf on the nhs and not having the thousands of pounds it would need to try privately (estimated cost of 10 grand per cycle minimum due to extra screening because of my history), Mothering Sunday is a very difficult day for me.
Fortunately my mum understands how hard it is for me and is happy with a card and having us visit her if we can |

Bottle of wine and a big Jo Malone Candle for my Stepmum. Going out for a meal as well.
She took my raggedy ass in when I came to this country so I make a little effort. There are quite a few of us so she does well out of the day. |

Sorry to hear that and you are not alone. I too am childless and miscarried twins after ivf. I have never experienced what it's like to be a real mum. |

Got my mum the new illustrated The Tales of Beedle the Bard book. So far I’ve bought her all the illustrated Harry Potter books and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
I’ll never top two years ago - family tickets to the Harry Potter studios.
One year I got her a big canvas - a pic of her and her mum, who died when she was ten. |

Its complicated but my mother gets cooked for by me, and my stepmum gets a garden centre voucher so she can plant flowers that will last a bit longer than a bunch. |

This is what I feel. I wish I had the same close relationship with my mother like so many people I know have but unfortunately this isn't the case We're so fundamentally different and there has been too much friction and unpleasantness throughout the years for me to cherish or celebrate the meaning of that day without a large amount of melancholy |

2 years ago in March my mum suddenly passed away. And one year later her mum died peacefully in her sleep. Both great mothers. I'll burn a few candles to remember them. |

I'll be driving 220 miles with my children to see my mum, take her to dinner at her favourite restaurant.
My eldest son will drive us home, so I can have a prosecco or 2
He's paying for dinner & fuel as his present to me

Coming from a very poor background my mum sacrificed a lot. I was going to surprise her with something special that we always talked about years ago, but I am about 2 months behind schedule! My brother is on track with his surprise so phew! Flowers, chocolates and visiting nieces will be the norm. How we travel to the different locations will be different. My god I can't wait.
She will be so happy!!

My mum’s been extremely ill for the last year or so and is now on oxygen pretty much full time!
We’ve booked a family lunch and we’re hoping she’ll be well enough to make it!
Also bought her a practical present (comfortable joggers, hoodie etc) as she very rarely leaves the house unfortunately! X |

My mum’s normally get a card but won’t even get that this year as i’ve been too poorly to get them, I’ve no idea what T will do for his mum but he’s very thoughtful.
If I get a card from our kids i’ll be happy - I find the whole thing a bit nauseating though so wouldn’t be bothered if I didn’t

I love it, all the little home made cards they make, I’ve been lucky enough to have two girls and two little boys so I get spoilt(with diy gifts and choccys) usually wine of the mr and cooked dinner or lunch out with our mums
I’m so sorry for all of you that struggle with Mother’s Day, I get this on Father’s Day but I hope the day brings everyone love in one way or another 3 |

I won't be doing anything for my mother on mother's day but I am in the process of planning to take down 50 metres of hedges and replace it all with a fence to make her garden more manageable for her and also put a soak away in her back garden to try and stop it from turning into a bog with the slightest bit of rain  |

I agree! I see my mum and tell her I love her almost every day - as I can’t guarantee she’ll be around the next day!

I once bought my mum , erm, what do ya call them.... erm.... sorta rubber tubes you put over the hot and cold taps in yer bath which feed into a single hose with a shower head on the end ( when you don’t have a shower) to make a shower ( well really to rinse your hair with as the hose was only about 3 feet long.) A lovely thoughtful pressie yeah ????. Well I was aged 6 |

I couldn't believe a £300 hairdryer was being advertised as an ideal mother's day pressie by a well known store. They even offered payment by installments. A) my mum would be cross if I spent that sort of money and B) it's a strange gift to give! |

See I just get my mum gift vouchers now... I bought her one of those bullet food processors one year. She only took it back and exchanged it!!
I couldn't believe a £300 hairdryer was being advertised as an ideal mother's day pressie by a well known store. They even offered payment by installments. A) my mum would be cross if I spent that sort of money and B) it's a strange gift to give! "
Was it Mercedes (one of those stupidity over priced cars) last year saying that their car would make an ideal gift for fathers day?  |

Reading your posts has made me feel guilty and special, as I see my mum 3/4 times a week and I don’t tell her I love her and how much I appreciate her for all she has done and still does for me as much as I should throughout year (thanks mum I love you) also I still have my Nan (95) love you too Nan, so it’s cards flowers for two from me .

My mum has had a card and a phone call. All very low key as in a couple of weeks my brother who has worked overseas for the last few years is visiting the UK and both of my brothers and I are going home to surprise and spoil her.
My mother’s day has been quiet and I’m cooking us a lovely roast lamb dinner, as I’m very happy pottering in the kitchen with music on and a g&t |

"Mum unwell...she slipped on her patio and has a twisted ankle. I have a cold so plans for todays lunch cancelled. I managed to get a card to her. Will make it up to her next weekend."

Heard from all my girls. New mum's themselves. Youngest told me to look out for parcel, didn't arrive but M&S sent picture of box in patio...unfortunately not my patio.
We have a street Facebook page so posted picture of patio...ten minutes later my parcel delivered.
Nice receiving gifts, but I miss the days when they were at school and handmade cards. |
