They do say fake it til you make it and so I am.

Fed up of being pale. I've embarked on a fake tanning mission.

I'm staring with the dove holiday skin in the hope I avoid becoming an umpa lumpa.

I currently feel like a slippery slug and I still can't reach certain bits of my back.

Any tips people? Surely some of you are possibly experts! Help!

Take an old metal coat hanger, bend it and put the mitt/old sock covered in fake tan on the end. It’s an extender

Oooo that's clever.

I've clearly made my first error and not got a mitt...

Oh are you just using your bare hand? They may go orange!

But if it’s the Dove stuff then it may not, I remember using that on my face a few times and my hands were alright.

My friend used to just get old socks, stick a few on her hand and smother herself in tan

I washed them well in the hope they won't be. I figured this will take a few applications so I'll get an idea of how bad or patchy it might go if I attempt a full on one.

Yeah get a good mitt- they'll either have like a barrier to stop the tan soaking through to your hand or gloves to put on under the mitt.

Make sure you moisturiser your elbows/heels/knees as they tend to be drier and this is where the tan will stick the most giving you darker areas than the rest of your body..

If you're putting it on your face remember to blend down your neck and over your ears to make it seamless!

I can't help with the back thing as I'm able to reach my whole back aha

Look in the old lady magazines that come free with the papers, you can get a cream applier thingy!

I just use my 6 year old! She was very good at helping moisturise my tattoo for me at the bra strap bit!

Thanks. Yes I did my ears and neck and back of neck.

I'll buy a mitt tomorrow

I considered the automatic tanning machine .. apparently it sprays you in 3 minutes.

Has anyone done it? I worry I'd fall over trying to get the poses right!

Good to hear. It doesn't smell like burnt liquorice so that's a definite bonus!!

Never tried an automatic one! But if you're getting a spray tan I'd recommend getting a person to do it as they're really good for a full body thing.

I'm a st moritz foam kinda gal for self tanner.. but if you can spend a bit more I'd go for st Tropez as it smells a bit nicer x

Hiding in the shadows

I'm a 'Guinea pig' for a friend.

Any products he's thinking of stocking in his salon, I get to test & review first.

When he's training new staff to spray tan too.

I had one last year, sprayed on lovely, nice golden glow.

Leave on overnight, shower off in the morning.

It was a hot night. I sweated.

I am now the owner of a kingsize memory foam mattress, with a huge brown stain on it.

I've tried every product going to clean it, all I've done is spread the stain.

So my advice if trying self tanning products.

Buy a mattress protector

Factor in replacement bath towel for the one hurridley scraped around everyfuckingwhere to clean the fallout spray- and try not drinking vodka an all night then applying and sitting shoulders slumped for friggin hours rather than stain bedding and finally rock brown tidal marks around toes

dove visible glow isn't that visibl;e when intermittently remembering to apply

I've woken up with a slight colour change. And my bed sheets survived too!

I guess I need to just stick with it nightly before going away .

Thanks all for your tips. As girly as I am , I do lack the genes for fake tan and eye make up!

Xx

That's the sort of thing that I would do too!

I went on holiday with the girls a few years ago. One of them is a frequent spray tanner. She's a bit orange if honest, anyway by day two she was all streaks and patches . It looked so bad. Reminded me that pale and interesting is ok!

I buy Australian gold sun spray factor 30 for protection. it has a built in bronzer. It's great!

I'm cursed with skin so pale I go blue , pink and back to white!
