They’ve stepped down from being ‘senior royals’

Who’s raging? Who’s happy? Who claims they don’t care, but has a very strong opinion on the matter anyway?

Poor old Queenie.

First she has to sack her son.

Then her grandson quits.

He knows what the tabloids did to his mother and could see history repeating itself.

I've nothing against the couple, so I wish them well in their new life.

Agreed. Why they cant just be left in peace is beyond me. They seem a decently behaving couple as do Wills n Kate. Some of those shitty tabloids dont sell if they’re not sensationalising every breath the royals take.

Probably not, but apparently UK taxpayers will still be paying £600 000 for their security. It would be nice if they sold the cottage and gave the money to a worthy cause.

I think they’ll find it easier to set up on two continents and to be ‘self-funding’ than you or me.

But I wish them luck with their new charity. I know their ‘work’ is very different from yours or mine but don’t underestimate the effort it takes, or the hours they put in. It isn’t for the faint-hearted - and I’m certainly not a Royalist!

Apart from that, I couldn’t care less about them.

Harry is sixth in line to the throne, he's more likely to be considered as Regent than heir. Therefore, until his brother is King, he can pretty much do as he wishes. And it's only if Wills' children are still young, will he ever need to be on standby.

I am not a fan of the royal family but yes they did need slimming down as I believe Prince Charles also stated however I don’t think he meant for his own son not to be considered as a major royal but I personally now consider Prince Harry to be a minor royal.I can understand Prince Harry stepping down as he was only a child but can probably still remember the way the press pursued his mother and is maybe afraid history could repeat it self.

. Excuse my ignorance I had to google PTSD and yes I agree with you it wouldn’t be a surprise if he does struggle with PTSD.I am also guessing with the amount of money that the royal family receive each year he does get the best medical advice / help that money can buy.At the end of the day money can’t buy health and if he feels it’s best for him , his wife , child and perhaps any more children he and his wife may choose to have then good luck to them all.

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest

I find it incomprehensible how in the 21st century, and in a supposed "progressive society", anyone can defend an institution that's based on superiority and right to rule by birthright.

Considering the pampered lifestyles they live, much of which is funded by the taxpayer, I have no sympathy for the "supposed" difficulties they experience with an obsessive media. It's the flipside of their opulent lifestyle, and if it weren't there, they'd be irrelevant and no longer live the lavish and often decandent lives they do.

They want to retreat from their "royal" duties? Great, be sure to cut off their funding while you're at it. They way they live is already an affront to the common person. Having their cake and eating it is a bigger insult still.

O o O oo

They were given the wedding they wanted, the house they wanted, the office they wanted, the money they wanted, the staff they wanted, the tours they wanted and had the backing of their family. In return they do Royal duties.

By the sounds of it they want to have their cake and eat it by doing some duties so they have time to make themselves money the rest of the time.

I havn't seen all the press stories but the ones I did see were her dad letting them publish her private letter AFTER he had been ripped to shreds in the media after her friends had been allowed to talk about the contents of the letter in the American media. Seems to be OK for her friends to do it but when the dad wants to put the record straight then it becomes a problem.

The other press I saw was them talking about the carbon footprint and then taking three flights in a private jet.

So it seems you can't point out the double standards in the likes of this without being accused of hounding the couple or being racist for mentioning it.

I said a long while ago, if you are not happy with the job you are doing, then leave the job and it's perks behind and go find yourself another job.

I also said after the engagement interview that she is going to causing waves

They won't get any if they don't do any royal duties...I am sure they have enough money of their own though between them and would be able to command good money for whatever they do next so I can't see him having to sign on or buy a van and train as a painter and decorator to make ends meet

I also don't think anything will change for them, the press will still want to report on them whatever they do and wherever they live

She does a hell of a lot, as does Edwards wife"

Yes they do. I was responding to the poster who elaborated on their idea of hangers on.

"Wonder if they will get means tested for the dole now they both don’t have jobs ....... nah will just leach of the public taxes instead

They won't get any if they don't do any royal duties...I am sure they have enough money of their own though between them and would be able to command good money for whatever they do next so I can't see him having to sign on or buy a van and train as a painter and decorator to make ends meet

I also don't think anything will change for them, the press will still want to report on them whatever they do and wherever they live"

They have money in their own right, a very small amount of their wealth comes from the crown estate

I could go on but really to many believe the press, rather than doing their own research and understanding what they actually do (not just what you see) and where the money comes from and who receives what

"They’ve stepped down from being ‘senior royals’

Who’s raging? Who’s happy? Who claims they don’t care, but has a very strong opinion on the matter anyway?"

I saw on the news the other night they'd been away for 6 weeks in canada., hadn't noticed they'd not been here doubt Ill notice if they do step down or head off somewhere else. ,

chances are there'll be lots of coverage if they need some publicity for one of their new ventures though.

Harry receives very little money from the taxpayer, he is part funded via his father & the Duchy of Cornwall and various monies bequeathed to him by his mother & the Queen Mother. She will also have her own money from her acting.

However being realistic wherever he goes and whatever he does we will have to pick up the bill for his protection. There are enough fanatics in the world who would want to take him out because of who he is whether he’s a minor Royal or not.

He will never be a minor royal while Wills' children are young.

I think that’s part of his issue, he IS a minor Royal, the line of ascension places him 6th in line to the throne regardless of the age of the Cambridge’s kids and over the years he will only slip further back. He’s in danger of becoming the Duke of York of his generation.

I love that multi millionaires are looking for a way to be financially independent. How much money do they need?

Yeah I did say they have enough money of their own and why they would probably survive without Royal money

They get the bulk of their money now from Charles out of the Duchy and 5% from the sovereign . I don't know many people who would work for nothing. I don't have a problem with donating my quid to the Royal Family...I just think if you know what you are getting into when you said yes to a Prince then you can't moan when you are in it.

Harry is different, he didn't know any difference and if he thinks he will be happier without it ( I can't see them being able to do part time ) then that's what he should do, but it isn't going to change the things they are complaining of and why they are walking away, they will still be reported on.

If Charles and Wills died while George is still young, H is well placed to become Regent. Although unlikely, not impossible.

"I don’t mind but them saying they’d like to be independent & earn their on money is a bit like someone quitting a stockbroking job after earning millions from it & saying they want to be self sufficient & get a “Normal” job like the plebs.....Bit bloody late now, it’s not like he’s going to give all his privilege & wealth away, buy a van and train to be a plumber or something is it?

They’ll be no end of charities & companies willing to pay them a salary just because it’s them. I know they can do nothing about that, it is what it is but don’t feed us bullshit statements please about giving up their status.

Outside of that though I wish them well personally & agree with other the hangers on should be chopped. Queen & direct family & that’s it.

S

Do you possibly mean direct line to the throne? As direct family still involves many people - ALL her children, ALL her grandchildren and ALL her great grandchildren.

Mum, Dad & their kids is as direct as I get, anyone else is a hanger on

S

Well that would be silly. Take Anne, she's a "kid" , yet lower in line to the throne than Wills and Harry and their children. "

Not really, I care not one jot who is taking over from Queenie or why. Direct is direct. When they get to Number one it’ll all be bestowed upon them. In the meantime go make yourself useful like Edward

Fair play to them. It really won't affect me much either way.

The Royal Family is an iceberg of unnecessary privilege floating on a sea of racist, Little Englander, establishment shite.

I think she'd had enough of that, and the abuse that goes with it, thought about where the UK is heading and decided Canada is a more civilized place to live (which it is).

Harry loves her, so he's going along with it. Let's face it, he's not the brains in that marriage.

I don't know much about them, but I don't really get the impression he was really too bothered about being a royal, and since William has children it's not likely he take the throne.

Let them go and be happy I say =)
