to be honest i know a few jokes that are offensive that i find funny, thing is you have to be very careful who you tell hem to and make sure they have the same sence of humor as yourself, also on a site like this someone with the condition your joking about could be reading it so seriously some things are best kept to yourself |

I can't (and wouldnt want to) answer on his behalf but despite the fact that he used his tourettes to his advantageas a comedian, it was obvious it also caused him a lot of discomfort and problems in life.
There is a fine line between laughing with and laughing at some one.

Personally I don't think there is anything wrong with it, honestly don't think anyone with Tourette's will be offended here as all adults. If anyone is offended I apologise, just thought it was a change from Poertry, the cutty sark, red dwarf ... Most of the forum is full of cheek and nonsense so thought it would fit quite well.  |

Like as been said, there is a fine line between laughing at and laughing with.
I see this as laughing at! Knowing someone personally with this condition i find this VERY offensive!

My younger brother has it. And yes it's still funny at times. He even laughs about it. Can be comical and the post wan meant to be just that. |

i actually thought he was quite dateable there was something rather cute about him, i don't mean because of the tourettes i mean he himself was quite cute although he needs to loose the beard

Speaking from experience and knowing people with disabilities, the one gripe they have is the 'normal' society making a rod for their backs by thinking they are doing right by assuming what they find offensive.
Most treat them like an elephant in the room or be too helpful boardering on patronising them.
They are people just like anyone else, so why treat them any different?
I say treat EVERYONE the same and if you upset them then they will let you know. |

is it? he is not calling them all wankers, he is not ACTUALLY putting tourettes sufferers down. I really fail to see why this is so offensive
i have worked on a national disability helpline with a number of disabled people and to be fair, they are the most un-PC people around, calling themselves window lickers and referring to their conditions as causing them to have spaz attacks
when i first started i was so shocked and embarrassed by it but the more i worked with them the more i saw that the main people affected by jokes about disability were the able bodied people around them

I have noticed that there are people in life, like 2wheels, who get offended on other peoples behalf because they are not here to be offended to themselves. There are also a few more who seem to have taken up this "cause" who really should just chill...
Put "jokes" into the search, read through them all and then find one that doesn't make someone the butt of that joke. Then look for the people who have complained on this thread, to see if they were quite so offended at all that un-PC stuff... NO they weren't!
Seems lots of people just love to try get a ride on the bandwagon when someone pushes it out of the garage!  |

I have 2 questions for all of the above that were offended.
1.Have you ever been to see a comedian?
2.If so did you or stay and watch the show and laugh?
If the answer to both is yes then I have to say you are being hypocritical as I have yet to see or hear a comedian who didnt have some material that the pc brigade would not label offensive. |

Yes, I've been to see many of a 'comedian'. Did I find it funny when they mocked those with a disabiliity? No, I didn't. I know some who are not as as abled bodied or mind as I am, doesn't mean I find ability or less ability jokes funny.
I do however admit, I do not get a lot of the 'disability' jokles, but maybe that's just me. I personally think people should have a heart or even compassion to peoples abilities, whether they have to deal with them or not.
As for the 'miserable, or lighten up' comments, deal with it in every day personally then come back and accuse people of being miserable or boring! If you dealt with it daily, you'd understand perfect strangers having a go or laughing at you!
It is Far from humerous.
Oh an yes, I do know people who have Tourettes and various other disabilities, so feel free to have a go! |

I have had to deal with disability more than you could ever imagine and I am not endorsing anyone directly taking the piss out of anyone with a disability.
A joke is just that and I do know that most ppl who tell a joke would never dream of bringing someone down. |

Thank you, the post here was meant as comical, my brother has Tourette's and love him and some of his friends dearly. I'd be 1st to go nuts at someone having a real go at someone no matter if it was for disability, race, religion or anything else.
