UK LOCKDOWN ANNOUNCED
Jump to: Newest in thread
If the UK government announced at 9am tomorrow, that from midnight tomorrow, the UK was on lockdown and everybody must stay in their homes for a period of two weeks, how ready would you be? or are you? could you survive and what would you do to entertain yourselves?! (apart from the obvious) |

Apart from essensial Goverment workers?
We asked out boss this question regards working from home. The panic look on his face at the thought of having to buy 5 labtops. Gettin the IT Supplier to upgrade our system to enable us to work from home. Priceless.. |

I would be very ready and have been very prepared.
I work abroad so work wont be an issue.
I saw this become a pandemic mid January and understood the risk back then thus since mid to end Jan I've been making preparations in advance such as:
I have face masks before they were even sold out (I travel a lot so need those for flights in particular).
Gloves, hand gels, soaps etc
On top of this I've made sure bulk shopping was done and necessities and supplies were stocked up should self isolation need to happen.
I've been in self isolation now for a week or so. I dont have the infection but I'm self isolating so that I dont become a carrier.
This is the bane I have with many on this site that express their selfish ignorant views on the forums as to how this is nothing or not as deadly as the flu etc. In this day and age ignorance isnt bliss and it shows me just how much intelligence matters to me.
People need to behave and show responsibility. We all may never catch it and if we do may not be affected at l but this is a killer and ever human being is a potential carrier thus we need to be sure we dont become the agents of death to someone else.
This isnt about me or I but about us and we. I feel its responsible to remove myself from the equation as swiftly as was possible so that I can protect those around me and if everyone atleast thought this way perhaps just maybe we wouldn't be wasting money on illegal wars and so forth.
So yes I'm very prepared and have been prepared before the news even shed light on this.
You may ask why was I aware so early on well it's a mixture of common sense and hindsight with also awareness of current affairs.
Thanks |

Oh yea and to entertain myself lol I dodnt answer this...
Well I wont be meeting until this is over and find meets to also be irresponsible too.
I have been doing work as well eating then theres tv and movies ofcourse and long phone calls too.
I'm very comfy in my own space but lucky being Asian I'm surrounded by family so the boredom of loneliness or the loneliness of boredom is rare for me lol |

Excuse our ignorance but in a lockdown, Who looks after patients in hospital?
Who looks after the elderly people in their homes who rely on carers?
Who feeds the livestock and tends to the welfare and medicinal needs of livestock? |

Haven’t done any shopping other than a normal shop. Life goes on. Have enough food, my health is good. No need to panic! |

We would get by, no stockpiling here because that's just blooming ridiculous, but from what we have in we would just scrape by to bare cupboards in the 2 weeks. |

I'm at home 5 days a week so another 2 days wouldn't be a challenge.
As for food and necessities, I haven't panic shopped so only have enough fresh stuff for a few days but, there's on line shopping and I get fruit and veg delivered once a weeks so lock-down wouldn't be a problem for me.
As a side note: if you have gone out and bought more than you need (for whatever reason) please consider donating your excess resources to those who can't get what they need - thank you. |

I work for a care company and the Council and care companies have been busy working together to make contingency plans for when/if needed. We do it every year for things like severe snow etc., it’s just ramped up a gear is all. |

Many people finanancially cudnt take two weeks off a lot of company's now don't pay sick pay or are self employed and people have no savings to carry them thru. Not all jobs can be done from home even if one wanted to. I'm not sure what the answer is but I am sure panick buying bog role isn't it yes it concerns me but what concerns me more is the mayhem and madness of people when faced with things like this lol |

I buy a small amount of food every few days which is paid for by any tips I make at work.
I'd probably scrape through electricity wise with what's on my meter at the moment.

Gloves, hand gels, soaps etc
What a shame that hand gels make you more susceptible to infection "
No they do not the immune system doesnt work that way and nobody is suggesting you use gels when there is water and soap available. In the same guise soap could be argued in this vane too however were lucky to have an innate and a specific immunity a memory immunity that provides care 24/7.
What makes you more susceptible to infection is common sense behaviours such as using toilet paper when you should wash and dry. Not brushing your teeth twice a day or more depending on the individual and tools used. Poor nutrition etc etc |

Well I look after a loved one 24/7; who is on limited life with long term conditions. I have just put orders in for continence products, medication, feed for food pump and will do a quick shop for store cupboard basics so I can prep bread and meals should our freezer become empty. No panic.... just a rational approach towards the likelihood of self isolation. |

No you wouldn't be as I'd transfer you the money to shove about 25 quid on each of electric and gas, 50 quid to get essential foods and another 25 to spend on tobacco before the curfew slammed down.
The only way you'd be shafted is if the hoarders cleaned out all of that big Asda near you, buying 2 months worth of shite each "just in case"...

Essential workers would have to carry on working as normal, with some restrictions, but a lot wouldn't, so it's a valid point. I've probably got enough food in to last me, or at least essentials to make meals, bread, etc..
What would I do, well there are quite a few box sets I've wanted to catch up on. Got a bathroom ceiling needs painting. Got toys to enjoy . |

We would manage as we have enough food etc ( no panic buying, we just generally keep a good level of long life / tinned foods, cleaning products, medicines etc ) and can work from home if necessary
But with two young kids I don’t know if we would all survive being cooped up together for so long. Wouldn’t be too bad if the weather warmed up a bit so we could enjoy the garden
It seems we are quite fortunate in being able to self isolate for a little while at least, lots of others would be affected much worse. |
