What happens if/when Trump doesn't concede?

Jump to: Newest in thread

As far as I know we've never had this situation with a US election. Haven't losers always conceded eventually?

I get the feeling Trump just won't concede. I don't think he's mentally capable of accepting the fact he lost.

He'll drag his objections through the courts as much as he can. The courts will likely shoot them down.

Then what?

He doesn’t have to concede or make a concession speech, if he refuses to leave he will be removed. It will be hilarious to watch, he is a laughing stock

On 20 Jan 2021, he becomes a private citizen & can be arrested for impersonating the President! He cannot stay & he knows it

"On 20 Jan 2021, he becomes a private citizen & can be arrested for impersonating the President! He cannot stay & he knows it "

That would be hilarious.

Problem 1: I'm not sure he does know it. I think he's actually mad enough to believe he won.

Problem 2: A lot of his followers follow what he says, contrary to facts. If he claims to still be president, they'd back him.

I agree, to a degree.

However, I am concerned that Trump's behaviour (and of those close to him), could incite his more extreme supporters (who also happen to be heavily armed) to some awful act.

I really hope not, but the possibility is there. We've already seen examples of it.

If they do then they will have to be treated with force just like Trump would have wanted if he was still president . I think the vast majority of republicans would denounce and be appalled by any violence , in the long term it would completely destroy him and his family

The problem is he doesn't seem to care.

Of course it will be squashed, but they have to be careful with the squashing. You don't want to create martyrs.

It would be much better for him to go quietly, slightly less damage to American society. If armed militia turn their guns on fellow Americans who knows where it could end?

He doesn’t know how to lose.

He will drag it through the courts, spending millions of dollars of his supporters and opponents money trying to change history but come 21st Jan 2021 he will be escorted forcefully from the White House.

He is using every trick in the book to make it look like he did not lose and was cheated.

You may find that the huge throng of people outside the courthouse are not actually Trump supporters. They are all the prosecutors waiting for their turn...

Probably just as well he didn't shoot that person on 5th Avenue...

There's the potential for money to be made when he goes which he will, if half of what is reported he will need that and to feed his ego..

Gradually the penny will drop that he has to go but I think he will never acknowledge it and will from now on be the victim in the eyes of the most rabid trumpists ..

Most other republicans will move back to a less toxic opposition..

The longer this goes on the more those within his administration will leave for their own careers and life after trump..

He will soon become irrelevant, Americans don’t like losers and that is what he is . The republicans will replace him and move on, the rest of his family don’t have his fame and tbh they won’t have his money to make a serious attempt at running for 2024. He will also lose his Twitter followers if he keeps getting censored or banned , his bull shit is being muted, his political career is over

My mistake, they won more seats in the senate than the democrats, 48-46

Associated press puts them at 48-48. 1 independent. Not sure what's happening with the rest. My understanding is the democrats flipped a seat.

I hope he isn't pulled out like a little child.

The UK and USA have been in a shit posting competition for most stupid ideas and government policies for 4 years now.

Trump going out like that sets a new benchmark for national humiliation and embarrassment, I think the Tories or hard right would try to copy.

"So far, the tally for the next Senate is 48 Republicans and 48 Democrats after Tuesday’s election. Two seats in Georgia are headed to runoffs on Jan. 5. And seats in North Carolina and Alaska are still too early to call." - AP

2 of the remaining seats (N Carolina & Alaska) to be declared will likely be republican. the 2 senate seats for Georgia will go to a run off elections in January. If the democrats take both seats in Georgia, then the VP will cast the tie breaking vote.

If the democrats lose, they will be trying to peel off a couple of republican senators like Collins, Romney or Sasse. A republican majority can also hinder Biden's selection of cabinet positions.

I would guess that Trump will move to Mar a lago very soon and not return to the White House. Expect lots of firings in the next 2 months as he takes revenge. He won't concede because, (a) he's a dick and (b) it will act as a signal to his base that the election was rigged.

There’s more to him not conceding I suspect..no sitting president can be charged with a criminal offence, once out of office he and probably his entire family will be subject to numerous criminal investigations in regard to dodgy dealings whilst he was in the White House, his wife was granted numerous Chinese patents during this time when all other businesses were barred from dealing with the Chinese..I really think he and other family members will end up convicted of numerous crimes and will do prison time...

Michael Cohen has already testified about some of the things that could put Trump away.

I think that Biden is trying to unite the country and going after Trump would cause more division. So I think Biden will let Trump go for the Greater Good.

donny trump just fired the secretary of defense mark esper. He has been mad at him ever since he wouldn't use regular military troops to stop the legal protests from Black Lives Matters protesters.

donny trump just may try to get his knew secretary of defense to follow the insurrection act, which gives trump a broad range of powers using the regular US military troops against any US citizens he feels are rebelling, committing

insurrection, or to suppress any civil disorder he deems necessary.

Dumb donny just may be getting ready to cause some serious trouble before he is removed from office.

He's so mad he lost to President Obamas Vice President that he has already thrown several temper tantrums at the White House in front of

White House staff.

Dumb donny has always been an unstable child, so let's just see what the child tries to do now that he is about to lose all his power, and have to face state charges, and also face his creditors, who are waiting for his removal from office.

Indeed. Especially when those big banks need a bail out! Or if the war on terror need to continue by bombing South Armagh, West Belfast and the bogside Derry with a few tactical drone strikes. But mostly for pandering to big finance and big corporations...happy days

Don't be fooled...

Trump needs cash quickly to cover costs of Air Force 1 & 2 being used as private jets for 3+ months alone, let alone other expenses racked up...

He is a con-man, remember..

Read the small print on the fundraiser pages for the phoney lawsuits. "60% will be given to the Trump Campaign Organisation"

He is using this front to line his pockets and pay off debts.

Use of aircraft alone will come to millions and MUST be paid.
