No, its on the green opposite the council premises.

Initial concern was with the £100k being spent on its installation, but the council have said that no public money will be spent on it.

"What’s the issue with the statue? "

Its costing £100k to put up. As soon as the council said that they would pay for it, then the backlash started. Now being funded by donations apparently.

The usual suspects in the town have threatened a mass "egg pelting" once its up.

Indeed, although I believe that she only came back to her home town once, after becoming PM.

I used to work with a bloke, that reckoned he gave her a good fingering in a bus shelter, after a Saturday night out. Was so ironic, as he was the union convener at the factory, and a staunch Labour man. Fortunately, both are now dead, so we will never know the truth on that one!

Mate I don't know about you but I grew up in the economic chaos of a Labour government where I had to go to school in jumble sale clothes, where we went hungry because my dad was, against his will and with no grievance, forced to keep going on strike by the idiocy of the engineering Union and where on leaving school I struggled to get a decent job because of high unemployment. Labour? Don't make me laugh

Tourists still come to Grantham to see the Margret Thatcher blue plaque. Its situated adjacent to one of the busiest road junctions in Grantham.

Her statue will be one of three near to the council offices. She joins other notable Granthamians Sir Isaac Newton and Fred Tollemache, who was MP from 1826 until 1874.

The other notable person from Grantham, that needs a statue, is Nicholas Parsons. I'm sure its only a matter of time!

You knew what you were doing dangling it out there waiting for a bite.

Simply pointing out something which happened.

With your cheeky comments about memories and proximity to rivers. You were on a wind up you don’t fool me you cheeky chappy. "

How many thousand jobs does the Nissan plant support? How many in any part of the UK would go down a pit today ? Did she get everything right no of course not, I wonder how jobs the Blair years brought to the poorer areas of the UK, he was more interested in the celeb parties in number 10. Should more money be poured into the north instead of the south east yes 100 percent

Now here's where an old man schools you....

.... there was no vote for strike action by the NUM. Thats why the Nottinghamshire miners kept working, and there was little support from other trades unions.

This was a personnal crusade by Arthur Scargill, backed by his Yorkshire cohorts, against Margret Thatcher and her Goverment.

In fact, the strike was eventually ruled illegal in the High Court.

Nice swerve but the discussion was about the miners strike you claimed they voted for it, they didn't, there was violence on both sides, some from both sides would have used it as an excuse to overstep the mark.

I was replying to a general post about working through a strike.

When you go on strike now,the union has to organise a ballot.

With the turnout having to be around 80%(I think)

Rules that domt apply to things like a general election.

If you think all the strikes in the 60,s 70,s and 80,s were for workers rights you are dreaming mate the likes of scargill, red robbo of layland, jack dash etc were all russian pawns to disrupt the country in the cold war. There was no internet so no cyber attacks so they had communist sympathizer's in the trade unions.

"If you think all the strikes in the 60,s 70,s and 80,s were for workers rights you are dreaming mate the likes of scargill, red robbo of layland, jack dash etc were all russian pawns to disrupt the country in the cold war. There was no internet so no cyber attacks so they had communist sympathizer's in the trade unions.

So those liverpool dockworkers who used to have to queue up for work every day like cattle..had no actual grievance.

Gotcha

Why dont you give up all your holiday pay, sick pay etc if you are so anti union?

sick pay was introduced under the social security and benefits act 1983 and holiday pay was introduced in 1938 with the pay act by the governments at the time.

Who else is going to introduce legislation

Closed shop was made illegal in 1990..

And the ship industry like others went their way as they simply could not compete with foreign factories etc where workers were paid much less and conditions were not as safe..

As an ex trades union official I will never accept that the right to decent pay and conditions is some sort of a luxury to have to doff ones cap to the bosses lacky for..

A person goes to work to earn, not to be killed due to working in an unsafe environment etc..

And if decent and safe conditions are ok for a person in an office wearing a white shirt then the same applies to the appropriate extent for the person doing the work that brings the money in..

yeah and why couldnt they compete? because you could have a welder and mate a pipefitter and mate sitting around for hours sometimes days waiting for a burner to cut a hole in a bulkhead which takes 5 minutes which any of the 4 could have done.No wonder they couldnt compete.

Some genuinely like being subservient..

I know that not all unions have been perfect and at times have not served the best interests of their members well but it's easy to just highlight those instances than look at the bigger picture and see that by and large we work in places and good employers work with unions rather than seeing it as a battle ..

The relationship in Germany is one I would think we could aspire to and it works well..

I was very anti union as a younger man just starting out etc because if some of the silliness that happened but in my latter career recognised the importance of the union, we had some senior managers who were union but then some who were anti..

Got much more accomplished with the former who didn't have the suspicious nature that we were in representing the members also helping the service deliver..

You realise there isnt a union for people on minimum wage?

You also realise the Tories argued against a minimum wage and was only brought in under a labour gmnt?

Are you seriously suggesting the tories are the party of the working man?

"Closed shop was made illegal in 1990..

I'd like to say I find it bizarre that ordainary people would be be opposed to an organisation that actually fights for their rights, but I'm genuinly not.

I'd like to see what working conditions we have,if unions did not exist.

We would still be doing 18 hr days, 6 days a week. Do you really believe that because i dont. Wouldnt your messiah have lobbied for better pay and conditions in the house?.Didnt the tories raise the minimum wage again in april with no union on strike for it? Things have moved on from the greed in the 1800,s mate companies realize that better pay ,working conditions makes for better production and that a happy workforce is a productive one.You need to come out of the dark ages .

You realise there isnt a union for people on minimum wage?

You also realise the Tories argued against a minimum wage and was only brought in under a labour gmnt?

Are you seriously suggesting the tories are the party of the working man?"

yes i do i know labour brought it in and that the argument against that if the minimum wage is law that people will just pay the minimum which to be fair is happening in most services now. Im suggesting the tories are for all and not the bosses from the 1800,s that you think they are.

The Tories are the party of the rich and powerful..thats fair enough but at least be honest about it.

Unions stand for everything which Tories despise, which is why we have some of the most restrictive union legislation in Europe.

The tories are certainly not the party of the working man .........but neither are labour , otherwise they wouldn’t of lost most of the safe northern seats in the election.

Ye as everyone knows, it was the Tories who created covid.

If they've got 10 each that's only 600,000 but hey, let's make political capital out of a tragedy eh.

Nice one mate
