Ah, so anything that was said 6 weeks ago is now irrelevant? Micheal Gove is a senior minister, why would he say such a thing? Was it a lie??

I'm not saying g what he said is irrelevant but I'm stumped as to why a post would be made about it 6 weeks after the fact.

There can only be one reason in my mind.

Not the case in NI, empty shelves are a thing in NI. The SoS for NI tried to blame it on covid but it's only been happening since 1-1-2021. Sainsburys are using the products of another grocery chain to stock their shelves, M&S has dropped some approx 200 products from their shelves, Tesco is carrying fewer product lines but not putting a hard number on it. Lidl are ok.

Businesses in NI are fucked, they're facing a 20% tarriff on steel from the UK. The second car market has also been screwed.

In summary, some extra admin but UK, EU and RoW steel has a route through to NI to avoid (where appropriate) any imposition of a 25% safeguarding tariff. For steel which cannot practicably be landed in an Irish Port but must land straight in to NI then this will be covered in the UK’s quota.

We have a copy of the letter and relevant forms from HMRC and BEIS should you directly import steel yourself or if it is required to provide your steel supplier or agent to show them that a safeguarding tariff should not ordinarily be applied."

"In what way are they blaming the EU.

Micheal Gove stated that NI get the ‘best of both worlds’

Who knew that 'best' means empty shelves.. what empty shelves everywhere I go there full more doom and gloom.

Are among an evergrowing list of businesses that will no longer ship to NI

The 25% steel duty issue has been resolved, and will not be applied for Uk, EU or RoW steel going to NI.

A search engine says otherwise. https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=8xMLYP_FIqyk1fAPg6SHcA&q=steel+northern+ireland+brexit&oq=steel+northern+ireland+brexit&gs_lcp=CgZwc3ktYWIQAzICCABQ3iVY3iVg7jJoAHAAeACAAVyIAVySAQExmAEAoAECoAEBqgEHZ3dzLXdpeg&sclient=psy-ab&ved=0ahUKEwi_i73JkLDuAhUsUhUIHQPSAQ4Q4dUDCAY&uact=5

Manufacturing Northern Ireland:

"Result on Steel Imports

In summary, some extra admin but UK, EU and RoW steel has a route through to NI to avoid (where appropriate) any imposition of a 25% safeguarding tariff. Essentially NI businesses will be the same as GB so avoiding the Tariff where the quota has not been breached but in addition as the NI Protocol provides for goods which have cleared customs in Ireland enjoy ‘free circulation’ on the island of Ireland, Rest of World steel landed at an Irish Port could be cleared inside the EUs own quota.

Do you have a date for this information as tariffs on steel have been reported in the media as recently as last week?

I won't post the link here, but if you want to check/verify the information, Google “manufacturingNI, Steel issue, sorted! Suppliers, service centres, importers agents and users have just been written to by HMRC confirming“

BBC report from 2 days ago https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-55772522

Tucked away in the middle of the article, "And it is the case that some difficulties have been solved.

This week HMRC was able to remedy an anomaly that meant NI businesses importing steel were facing tariffs of 25%.

Problems with the transport of mixed loads of food, known as groupage, are also being tackled with a successful test run from Liverpool to Belfast last week.

A VAT issue for the second-hand car trade has also been resolved."

Just for good measure it also mentions a couple of other "teething issues" that have been ironed out/resolved.
