Boris has done everything possible to reduce Covid deaths and keep people safe since the start of the pandemic.

It must be true, he's just made that statement and confirmed it after being questioned on it.

Do you believe Boris?

He did actually say he accepted responsibility for everything the government does.

As far as pulled out all the stops? No, far from it.

Unfortunately there was a few things Boris could have done a long time ago that would have saved a lot of lives.

It isn't the use of hindsight, it's issues that have been highlighted as and when they either happened or didn't happen yet Boris chose to go down the route he did regardless.

I believe he is learning but was poor early on as was all polititions they hesitated and made a stupid mistake as trying to do what the people wanted.

That was foolish he should have been tougher if he had been he would have gone from more unpopular than he is now to very popular.

A mistake?

How many times did he talk to us about the great british common sense? How pathetic to use this type of populist rhetoric to fight a virus.

A real gvt would have closed the borders on day one - we are an island for god sake!

How can these guys educated at Eton didn’t realise that this was the right thing to do?

It’s taken a bloody year to close our borders. What a farce!

This gvt has blood on its hands.

9 Banging on people’s common sense instead of implementing proper deterrent and hefty fine for tossers breaking the rules.

I suspect that history will look back at the last decade as being a decade of “unfortunate circumstances” as far as the U.K. is concerned.

The post-Brexit referendum dialogue was irrelevant with the worst post-war Labour Leader in Opposition. This led to the most intellectually incapable Prime Minister in history to be elected and then he had to try to deal with a world-wide pandemic the like of which has not been seen for 100 years.

When the end of the United Kingdom gets taught in history, five or six decades from now; Boris Johnson, Jeremy Corbyn and David Cameron will likely be viewed as only less culpable than a U.K. population that decided “thinking” was not worth the effort... until suddenly, it was too late.

We don’t bother teaching history in this country. It’s an optional subject after year 9. Only country in Europe where it is not compulsory. It makes it much easier for the Daily Nail to manipulate the masses. Once you’ve taught Henry viii and Hitler, that’s it. No point bothering with anything else. This is criminal but it suits the si-called elite.

Nope. The Daily Nail will do its job. A bit like the waves that erases things in the sand. In four years’ time the brainwashed will vote blue again telling sis that Starmer is the worst marxist on the planet and that giving a pay rise to nurses would result in tax increase. That’ll be enough for the mob to vote for any blue donkey with a blue rosette.

In four years’ time the brainwashed will vote blue again telling sis that Starmer is the worst marxist on the planet and that giving a pay rise to nurses would result in tax increase. That’ll be enough for the mob to vote for any blue donkey with a blue rosette. why the fuck do people go on about the daily mail iv never read it in my life and I’d guess hardly anyone else does how many people actually buy it what are the numbers compared to other papers ?

Daily Mail passed the Sun as the most popular newspaper in the UK.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/media/daily-mail-sun-circulation-most-read-newspaper-uk-a9576761.html

Lots of people here quote the Daily Mail, or even copy and paste stuff from there.

wow I’m shocked probably as iv never read it I know I’m a lazy twat but could you get the numbers mate yr better at this stuf than me pls ?

This is from April 2019. And is for the print copies.

The Sun 1,371,190

Daily Mail 1,199,760

The Sun on Sunday 1,137,110

The Mail on Sunday 997,550

The Sunday Times 707,600

Daily Mirror 499,820

The Times 406,280

Sunday Mirror 403,180

Daily Telegraph 335,740

Daily Star 321,480

Daily Express 312,770

Sunday Express 268,050

The Sunday Telegraph 262,780

As for on line readership. I've no idea.cheers mate well the mail sun express put together are well less than 2million like I said hardly anyone reads them it’s really not much of a big deal and I struggle to see there influence tbh I think most people will be shocked how small these papers really are now that people have the internet and fuck knows how many news channels "

It's hard to know how many people look at them on line, maybe there are stats somewhere, I don't know.

I think that there is a perception that people who think Brexit is a good idea, people who don't think we should question the government over Covid, people who like Trump get some of their information from these sources.

There are certain things you can spot. People who call the EU "Brussels", as an example.

It's usually pretty obvious when someone has copy and pasted their posts too, you can Google search the text. 99 times out of a 100 it's the Mail or Express.

I'm not accusing anyone specifically. But it makes some of people think that these news papers are the source of other people's opinions.

Also it's easier to say "Daily Mail" as a catch all for the right wing press.

They dumped the elderly into care homes from hospital without testing and condemned other care home residents, workers and their families, and thought that was doing a good job... No! It bloody wasn't!!

"I suspect that history will look back at the last decade as being a decade of “unfortunate circumstances” as far as the U.K. is concerned.

I agreed with every word there until the rank at the end about the U.K. population this is the population you live amongst like iv said before family friends work colleagues neighbours and probably people you have met to swing with we are all just people with different opinions ain’t that what makes the U.K. a great place to live lol

And remember it’s all the people’s fault. It’s the people spreading the virus not the gvt or something like that. Our gvt is the best gvt in the world. It’s world beating.

The idea that the media dont have an impact in this country is ludicrous. "

You only have to look at the extensive list of verifiable lies the media have been pushing on their front pages for 40 years regarding the European Union.

Once enough anger and blame mindset had been whipped up amongst the electorate against the European Union by the media, individuals took the opportunity to become prominent advocates of leaving the EU and to gather the fooled members of society and further whip up hatred through the media to consolidate their powerbase.

We then had 2 political parties formed on the lies of the media to further push the misinformation all the way to the point that enough people were taking the lies hook line and sinker as the truth that it then became Government policy to act on the previous 40 years of media lies in a "if you can't beat them, join them" mentality.

The media control the weak minded, the media know this.

The more lies they splashed across their front pages, slowly increases the fooled who then buy the papers to see what new catastrophic harm the EU is doing to us. This results in more papers being sold over the years and more profits for the media groups and unfortunately enough people succumbe to the lies and misinformation after long enough that it drives a countries direction.

Diversity of opinion is a good thing.

Having a mainstream media with an overwhelming right wing slant and a tendency to lie to their readership. Is not a positive influence for society.

I agreed with every word there until the rank at the end about the U.K. population this is the population you live amongst like iv said before family friends work colleagues neighbours and probably people you have met to swing with we are all just people with different opinions ain’t that what makes the U.K. a great place to live lol

If you saw what happened in Washington 3 weeks ago, you should not be disagreeing with what I said. The US, and the UK, both have a mass of people who either can't or won't critically think. News is digested by Facebook memes or via curated news channels that tell only one story.

see when I read that it comes across maybe not your intention as the thick uneducated fall for this type of bullshit but the clever educated don’t I just don’t accept that 17.4 million people fell for right wing media crap you just can’t have a one side are clever amd know everything and the other side are thick and know nothing argument because it doesn’t work

I imagine every one of those 17.4 million people voted with different reasons in mind. But 100% some voted based on some lies from the right wing media.

Some people on fab post up reasons based off this misinformation. Not stuff from the leave campaigns, but things that come directly from the pages of the Daily Mail (or sun, or Express, or Telegraph, etc).ye I’ll go woth that sky but some remain voted based on scare stories from Osborn about the half million job losses day after a vote to leave like you said ppl voted for lots of different reasons but isn’t that a good thing that we all are allowed our own opinions in a democracy don’t forget every general election most of the voting population are left unhappy

Diversity of opinion is a good thing.

Having a mainstream media with an overwhelming right wing slant and a tendency to lie to their readership. Is not a positive influence for society.

agin does only one side lie does left wing media only tell the truth "

As we discussed the left wing media is much smaller. It's also less well funded, and less influencial.

As I am sure people would argue, the left wing section of the British media maybe biased. But it has a much better record in terms of accuracy of information.

If you're genuinely interested on how the media works in this country, and round the world, (I'm really interested in this stuff).

There are plenty of sites that provide analysis and starting points to start exploring this.

Medialens is really good for a look at the political stuff.

Climatefeedback is great for environmental stuff. They have actual climate scientists reading newspaper articles and rating them on accuracy.

There's good info out there.

I don't even think the guardian does that. They pretend to. The rest is clickbait bollocks for people who want to feel enlightened, but don't want to actually do anything.

I know what's cynical. But that news paper isn't what people think it is. In my opinion.

The idea that the media dont have an impact in this country is ludicrous.

Read widely.

Read wisely.

Read the Politics of the other guy.

And for gawds sake read more than just the Headline.

But also understand that the copy your read has been set by just two or three people.

1. The unnamed source.

2. The Journalist.

2. The Copy Editor.

4. The Editor.

and off to print press it goes.

Then the reader reads half a Headline and believes that just because 4 people passed it through the system it just has to be fact.

Eh?

I did write that in English lol.

I know.. I just dont get it.

Without a doubt the media still plays huge part.

I think the mail is one of the most read websites in the country.

Even stories on social media often originate from the press."

I was merely pointing out that people become victim to what they read by not even properly understanding just how small the 'circle-of-truth' actually is. Even in the most trustworthy of Newspaper outlets. 2 or 3 people bring you that news.

It's even worse with Breaking News Items.

Often Breaking News appears in a feed online or TV . . . as often the full details are scant - yet the whole viewing public suddenly go into overload of 'OMG! have you seen this?'

And that is what becomes 'truth' and it's remembered for as long as our own political leaning wants it to be - mostly people don't follow up on the story afterwards never mind read the full story and cross-reference it when it finally arrives.

It will be quoted ad-infinitum as fact. Often just as conveniently leaning the way and suiting the part they want it too.

Talking about pulling all the stops, we had another superb performance from Bojo today at PMQs. What an embarrassment. Of course, not one question was answered. I wonder that some of the families of the victims must be thinking about this incompetent bloke.

Incompetence is one thing but bro g disingenuous and not answering straightforward questions is plain disgusting.,

Starmer just tears him.to shreds each week and he just trots out his bullshit.

Watch how many times boris looks behind him almost begging for support from his back benches.

Shame hardly anyone pays any notice.

It's one of his biggest strengths

"We don’t bother teaching history in this country.

Ditto politics

True.

If you knew anything about politics, as a left winger you would be anti EU and anti Sturgeon for a start

So you still consider jrm a centrist?

When have I ever mentioned JRM on these threads? I said the Tory party are centrist. You talk not nothing but crap. Like others on here, I'm done with your nonsense "

And this guy claims to know about politics? LOL

"I suspect that history will look back at the last decade as being a decade of “unfortunate circumstances” as far as the U.K. is concerned.

Is not a positive influence for society.

agin does only one side lie does left wing media only tell the truth

As we discussed the left wing media is much smaller. It's also less well funded, and less influencial.

As I am sure people would argue, the left wing section of the British media maybe biased. But it has a much better record in terms of accuracy of information.

It's fairly much non existent

The Guardian is faux left.

The Independent is all over the shop.

The Morning Star sells about 4 copies a week.

And the Mirror is some kind of non-right wing rag."

The for the best ever definition of what the Newspapers stand for search Yes Minister Newspapers in YouTube.

This maybe dated by some 30 years .... but I guess just shows how little has changed .... apart from probably the Daily Mail!

All newspapers could significantly increase their usefulness to us all if they were made out of paper was that more thoroughly absorbent!

R xx

Even stories on social media often originate from the press.

"Boris has done everything possible to reduce Covid deaths and keep people safe since the start of the pandemic.

It must be true, he's just made that statement and confirmed it after being questioned on it.

Do you believe Boris?

"

He can't even get his thumb out of his arse.

He's responsible for at least 50,000 deaths; due to his indecisiveness and his unwillingness to listen to doctors. Even surviving Covid 19 taught him nothing.

He and his Cabinet will try to divert your attention from the blood on his hands by wanking on about what a great job they've done with vaccines.

The question is; why couldn't they keep the death toll lower AND do the good job with vaccines?

As for taking responsibility. He won't - any more than Blair did, for Iraq. His future holds nothing new, except perhaps, after he's no longer PM, a seat in the House of Lords, after an all too short period of time.

Certainly, he will never undergo any sort of sanction, or inconvenience; despite being responsible - as he claims but doesn't mean - for catastrophic loss of life.
