Unfortunately there was a few things Boris could have done a long time ago that would have saved a lot of lives.
It isn't the use of hindsight, it's issues that have been highlighted as and when they either happened or didn't happen yet Boris chose to go down the route he did regardless. |

8 Not putting in place financial support for people to self isolate in a country that has the lowest statutory sick pay. Criminal.

10 Not tackling the stark social inequalities resulting in some categories being far more vulnerable than they should have been.

I suspect that history will look back at the last decade as being a decade of “unfortunate circumstances” as far as the U.K. is concerned.
The post-Brexit referendum dialogue was irrelevant with the worst post-war Labour Leader in Opposition. This led to the most intellectually incapable Prime Minister in history to be elected and then he had to try to deal with a world-wide pandemic the like of which has not been seen for 100 years.
When the end of the United Kingdom gets taught in history, five or six decades from now; Boris Johnson, Jeremy Corbyn and David Cameron will likely be viewed as only less culpable than a U.K. population that decided “thinking” was not worth the effort... until suddenly, it was too late. |

It's hard to know how many people look at them on line, maybe there are stats somewhere, I don't know.
I think that there is a perception that people who think Brexit is a good idea, people who don't think we should question the government over Covid, people who like Trump get some of their information from these sources.
There are certain things you can spot. People who call the EU "Brussels", as an example.
It's usually pretty obvious when someone has copy and pasted their posts too, you can Google search the text. 99 times out of a 100 it's the Mail or Express.

You only have to look at the extensive list of verifiable lies the media have been pushing on their front pages for 40 years regarding the European Union.
Once enough anger and blame mindset had been whipped up amongst the electorate against the European Union by the media, individuals took the opportunity to become prominent advocates of leaving the EU and to gather the fooled members of society and further whip up hatred through the media to consolidate their powerbase.
We then had 2 political parties formed on the lies of the media to further push the misinformation all the way to the point that enough people were taking the lies hook line and sinker as the truth that it then became Government policy to act on the previous 40 years of media lies in a "if you can't beat them, join them" mentality.
The media control the weak minded, the media know this.
The more lies they splashed across their front pages, slowly increases the fooled who then buy the papers to see what new catastrophic harm the EU is doing to us. This results in more papers being sold over the years and more profits for the media groups and unfortunately enough people succumbe to the lies and misinformation after long enough that it drives a countries direction. |

If you're genuinely interested on how the media works in this country, and round the world, (I'm really interested in this stuff).
There are plenty of sites that provide analysis and starting points to start exploring this.
Medialens is really good for a look at the political stuff.
Climatefeedback is great for environmental stuff. They have actual climate scientists reading newspaper articles and rating them on accuracy.
There's good info out there.

I was merely pointing out that people become victim to what they read by not even properly understanding just how small the 'circle-of-truth' actually is. Even in the most trustworthy of Newspaper outlets. 2 or 3 people bring you that news.
It's even worse with Breaking News Items.
Often Breaking News appears in a feed online or TV . . . as often the full details are scant - yet the whole viewing public suddenly go into overload of 'OMG! have you seen this?'
And that is what becomes 'truth' and it's remembered for as long as our own political leaning wants it to be - mostly people don't follow up on the story afterwards never mind read the full story and cross-reference it when it finally arrives.
It will be quoted ad-infinitum as fact. Often just as conveniently leaning the way and suiting the part they want it too.

And that is what becomes 'truth' and it's remembered for as long as our own political leaning wants it to be - mostly people don't follow up on the story afterwards never mind read the full story and cross-reference it when it finally arrives.
It will be quoted ad-infinitum as fact. Often just as conveniently leaning the way and suiting the part they want it too.

Talking about pulling all the stops, we had another superb performance from Bojo today at PMQs. What an embarrassment. Of course, not one question was answered. I wonder that some of the families of the victims must be thinking about this incompetent bloke.

If you saw what happened in Washington 3 weeks ago, you should not be disagreeing with what I said. The US, and the UK, both have a mass of people who either can't or won't critically think. News is digested by Facebook memes or via curated news channels that tell only one story.

As I am sure people would argue, the left wing section of the British media maybe biased. But it has a much better record in terms of accuracy of information.

And for gawds sake read more than just the Headline.
But also understand that the copy your read has been set by just two or three people.
1. The unnamed source.
2. The Journalist.
2. The Copy Editor.
4. The Editor.
and off to print press it goes.
Then the reader reads half a Headline and believes that just because 4 people passed it through the system it just has to be fact.

I think the mail is one of the most read websites in the country.
Even stories on social media often originate from the press.
I was merely pointing out that people become victim to what they read by not even properly understanding just how small the 'circle-of-truth' actually is. Even in the most trustworthy of Newspaper outlets. 2 or 3 people bring you that news.

The question is; why couldn't they keep the death toll lower AND do the good job with vaccines?
As for taking responsibility. He won't - any more than Blair did, for Iraq. His future holds nothing new, except perhaps, after he's no longer PM, a seat in the House of Lords, after an all too short period of time.
Certainly, he will never undergo any sort of sanction, or inconvenience; despite being responsible - as he claims but doesn't mean - for catastrophic loss of life. |
