EU founder Robert Schuman on path to sainthood

“Robert Schuman, one of the European Union’s founding fathers, has taken a step towards becoming a saint of the Roman Catholic Church, according to a decree published by the Vatican on Saturday.

The Vatican said that Pope Francis had recognized the “heroic virtues” of Schuman, a Luxembourg-born French citizen born in 1886 and a devout Catholic.

The promulgation of the decree represents the first step in the Catholic Church’s long path towards sanctification, and grants Schuman the title of “venerable.”

Schuman……. had an instrumental role in setting up the current EU institutions.

He served as the first president of the European Parliament, where a traineeship program named after him draws in scores of applicants each year from across the bloc. He died in 1963, aged 77.

In order to continue on his path towards sainthood, Schuman would have to have two miracles attributed to him, according to the BBC”

Bahahahaha

Just got to find those two miracles now,

Does Brexit count? It does for me

To be honest I don’t see it as anything to do with the EU as sanctification is a religious thing not a political one.

Some people are so blinkered everything can be skewed if it suits a narrative…

This is just a case in point

It's rather funny, if you think about it. If you read JuliaChris' posts, you don't need to read the Mail. They seem to repost every Mail headline on here.

It's a sort of public service. It saves times and gives us all 1 more reason not to read the Mail.

Not at all, one comes before the other. I speak with Cardinals about this sort of thing.

You better start talking to Roman Catholic Cardinals then

sanctification

/sa?(k)t?f?'ke??n/

noun

the action of making or declaring something holy.

"the sanctification of bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ"

the action or process of being freed from sin or purified.

"the process of sanctification takes deliberate action on our part"

the action of causing something to be or seem morally right or acceptable.

"the sanctification of violence"

St Wine & St Bread ?

beatification

/b??at?f?'ke??n/

noun

(in the Roman Catholic Church) declaration by the Pope that a dead person is in a state of bliss, constituting a first step towards canonization and permitting public veneration.

"a ceremony of beatification in St Peter's Square"

canonization

/kan?n??'ze??n/

noun

1.

(in the Roman Catholic Church) the official admission of a dead person into sainthood.

"many parishioners wanted to attend church specifically to honour the canonization of Mother Teresa"

2.

admission into a canon of literary or artistic works.

"Joyce saw all that was wrong with literary canonization long before it happened to him"
