Lets hope you are going to the Labour conference, and not some American thing!

Lets hope it goes well but I suspect the Labour Party will spend the week looking inwards and not outwards.

Oh god I hope he does … it’s the best way to guarantee another 4 years with the conservatives in power.

Spot on. The Tories aren't great, but they have it made easy fir them by the Labour Party and the reputation of their more extreme supporters. Shame as we need a strong opposition, but it's seriously poor.

Why would anyone support a racist party and a party that encourages child grooming.???

Even Keir let Jimmy Saville off the hook, stating there wasn’t enough evidence to prosecute.

If he doesn't want to run the country then he is in the wrong job and should step aside for someone that does

are you saying Keir had a direct say in the decision ? Or that as the head of the CPS he should be accountable for the decisions made by those under him ?

Big test for Kier Starmer today, when the £15 minimum wage gets debated.

Shadow Front Bench Minister, and Jeremy Corbyn supporter, Andy McDonald publicly resigned yesterday, heaping more pressure on SKS.

The Left of the party and the TUC, want this £15 min wage to be policy. The Leadership are going to have quite a battle today!

The left of the party....momentum (militant tendency still going strong) are still determined to either turn the party to extreme socialism or destroy it completely.

The Tory boys must be rubbing their hands together with glee.

What a shambles!!

A £15 minimum wage will kill off near on very small business and leave the market wide open for the big boys to step right in

That says rather a lot!

Slightly right of centre myself, but think it incredibly important to have a strong opposition AND genuine options when it comes to voting time. Neither are the case at present.

If you're a die hard Labour supporter you need to win back the likes of me. There's absolutely zero chance of that for the foreseeable future, even though I'm not exactly in love with the Conservative Party either. Labour die hards needs to get their heads our if the sand. Its been there for far too long. I've actually started feeling a bit sorry for Starmer when he seems to be surrounded by the looney left, both in shadow cabinet and in party support. No chance I'll vote for those ideals.

so now the labour party condemn the aukus agreement with a vote of 70.35% to 29.65% after SKS told parliament he welcomed the increased cooperation. It seems the party is still more likely to listen to mr Corbyn.

Agree as far as the bits I've heard but didn't go down too well with many on the left going on the heckling.

SKS says he would rather win election than unite the party....a party as disunited as labour currently wouldn't win an egg and spoon race. Sad situation!

Indeed. As someone who's voted Conservative the last few times it would be good to have choices again - and a party that forms a strong opposition at very least.

SKS speech was pretty good and slapping down the corbynites was the icing on the cake.

It’s true, just like in tory town, there are factions, but opposed to the tories, SKS has not pandered to his extremist elements like ‘trivial’ Johnson.

There now is a clear choice, tory chaos or labour stability. None of the pie in the sky corbyn crap and his hysterical hyenas. General election is going to be real interesting now.

I think the corbyn left need the epiphany that what they think plays well to their hardcore members doesn’t play nearly as well in the real world…. As starmer said, “if we think the tories were bad in 2019, and we got trounced by them, then what does that say about us?”

And it’s the one question they can’t answer and always want to point fingers elsewhere

A real good put down of corbyn without mentioning corbyn.

Good speech but reminded me of 90's sound bites in places.

Trouble is if he gets to be PM he'll end up with a train wreck of a country that may not be repairable.

At last, he's started to finally acknowledge that brexit is a thing. We're stuck with the fucker whatever anyone's opinion of it is, so it's in all of our interests to try and make it work. The last 18 months where he's refused to even say the word hasn't helped his cause. It's a shitshow that should be an open goal but he's been terrified of missing his shot.

You’re right sell the person, then the policy.

But the vision was there, and that is what we need an opposition which is competent and will make the right choices, he will inherit a mess, but at least I could trust those in his team more than the current government.

Yes, we need a competent and strong opposition but the vision isn't there. It's the same old rhetoric

Depends on your point of view, it wasn’t some uber left wet dream, it was pragmatic and competent, the british public want stability, they want surerity. I doubt any other party apart from Labour can deliver that now. With a centrist agenda which is what people actually want.

Starmer lied to get the Labour leadership. He won't ever get my vote.

But it'd help if he had any kind of dynamic, positive vision. "work hard", "tough on crime" - it's just Tory-lite.

It won't convince anyone. That's why he's constantly behind in the polls vs a government of buffoons.

Polls far between elections are not a true indicator of who will win, labour were ahead in polls before an election before getting trounced, people’s mood changes quite quickly,

Furthermore, a person is entitled to change their opinion on an issue, doesn’t make them a liar, it makes them informed. How else is anyone ever going to grow as a individual?

Case in point trivial johnson, denied climate change, then got informed, now is no longer a denier. Did that make him a liar?

Labour's biggest problem is its name.

If only they had changed it to 'Democrats' before other people wasted the name they would be riding high now.

Nobody with an ounce of aspiration wants to join a party with a name that sounds like a prison sentence.

Other countries where the left are known as democrats have more success in unseating the right wing.

The phrases 'right wing' and 'left wing' only apply to the more extreme types who give any party a bad name for my money. I always think of politics in terms of very narrow bands of blue or red at the extreme ends and a massive white band of people who form the vast majority of the country - largely those who don't feel particularly represented by either much. Pity we can't have a common sense party all of us who aren't on the make, or who have a narrow vested interest in it could vote for.

Recent studies show that the number of people calling themselves moderates/centrists is shrinking. Partisanship is a growing problem in Western countries. As people get more partisan, politicians obvious start adapting to it and think about what a conservative/progressive would do instead of trying to find a common sense solution.
