Electric converted cars

Seen a documentary about electric cars and in particular, a garage that converts petrol/diesels into electric cars. Problem was some red tape nonsense States they're still petrol/diesel cars and subject to tax etc..

Not sure if this will change, there's shit loads of cars that could be changed at a better impact for the environment and make a smoother transition?

Electric cars will be taken up far quicker when the infrastructure is in place so sales reps etc can rely on enough charging points . Too much time is wasted on diverting to charge point and then wasting an hour eating to get plugged in. That’s before the charging starts.

Can't see a smooth transition here considering the deadline

It's going to take time. From the perspective of the overall environmental impact it is probably best to leave these cars burning petrol or diesel until they no longer work efficiently. So, no reason to encourage it with a tax rebate.

Batteries are most efficiently used in purpose built vehicles.

However, there are certainly lots of classic and retro cars which if you want to keep running, then why not?
