What upward trend ? Have you seen what SCOTUS did ? Majority of states have a claus that anyone under 18 needs parental consent. What upward trend do you speak of ?

Maybe all states should join the 7 and say you cannot get married as a child... seems pretty obvious to me.

Only a very small % of people would consider "Well Done Massachusetts" click bait.

You know if you don't like my post you don't HAVE to post right? No-one else had it could have just gotten lost in history.

Now unless you have more accusations to make, good evening!

Why would it be OK for a parent to allow a child younger than the age of consent to marry?

What is wrong with making that actually illegal?

Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation in which the abuser attempts to sow self-doubt and confusion in their victim's mind. Typically, gaslighters are seeking to gain power and control over the other person, by distorting reality and forcing them to question their own judgment and intuition.

And if you are having any of those feelings, that is a You problem, and nothing to do with what I have said here. And I would appreciate an apology for the implication otherwise. That is a SERIOUS accusation

I don't pretend to to understand the UK mindset I try to accept that as a poignant point on why I want to understand that thought process.. it's not going to work here.

Simply to answer your question: it was in the news today. It was worth praising the state for its actions. Some people would not realise how few states ban child marriage so that context needed to be included.

This post was and is NOT America Bashing.

I am 100% with you on this. I think the news today is great.

Anywhere that allows for parental consent (in the US or around the Globe) for children to get married will be abused and kids hurt. So them making it illegal is great!

you can kill for your country at 17 with parental consent but marriage to the one you love is a no go. Are you listening to your ignorance?

Eastbourne (she/they)

What you have done is what is called a strawman argument.

You have misrepresented my argument by focusing on a 17 year old, in doing so you completely misrepresent the argument as a whole which includes countless young girls who as young as ten have been forced into marriages.

20 U.S. states do not require any minimum age for marriage, with a parental or judicial waiver, which is even scarier. This problem is also not unique to the USA, but given a state took a step in the right direction today I thought it was worth commending them for that.

As for a 17 year old to answer your strawman. If it means saving pre-teens from being forced into a marriage, then the 17 year old can wait a year to get married.

And for the record, I don't think 17 year olds should be fighting Old men's wars either.
