A number of reasons. There’s a lot about Europe that I like and I feel it’s better to be in the tent pissing out etc. on a personal level I knew it would be a negative impact on my career and my plans to retire to France. Despite the protestations of ‘project fear’ and the total bullshit of an ‘oven ready deal’ I knew it would be a disaster and it gives me no pleasure at all to be right. I have met and worked with so many people that came here for a better way of life - hats off to them. Just to clarify, during the last decade I think when the EU expanded east and anyone with a passport from the new countries could just rock up and stay. I have met and worked with so many people that came here for a better way of life - hats off to them. It’s daft to assume or ignore the fact that it also attracted a huge number that were mad, bad, dangerous. Before you all jump on the racist xenophobia nonsense, it applies to Brits abroad also. Chancers, drifters, you know the sort, people that have not forged a successful life in their own country so try their luck in pastures new. The old issues tend to follow them however. I’ve seen them in Hong Kong, guys that fucked up or failed in London trying anew out there. There is an acronym FILTH - failed in London try Hong Kong. Just one example and there are many others, Americans, Germans, Swedes - often to be found boring people to death in bars.
