It has been reported that the Dover fire bomb attack at a immigration centre was ‘ primarily motivated by an extremist right wing ideology’. Should we be concerned that this will happen again, it appears that these people are being radicalised

from what I've read he was a very vulnerable member of our society.

It's hard to tell of a group has taken advantage here. Or that someone who was on the edge simply chose this as being thw thing that he projected all his anger into.

It is a very sad case but the police have announced it was driven by right wing ideology

Said it before but have you ever noticed when a white male following a right wing ideology commits a heinous act, they invariably are labelled as a loner with mental health issues. If they were black/brown and/or muslim and/or left wing then they are a terrorist. Makes you wonder?

it's often a mixture. And to different extents.

Some influence by propoganda and sow the seeds of hate. Which are then consumed by people looking for relief. These people then take their own initiative to act out.

Others are more proactive in grooming. Identifying victims and training and enabling actions.

The lone wolfs often fall into the first camp. It's harder to draw a connection on these. They play more in the shadows.

My comment was more on the irony and possible comfort blanket this provides... oh he must have had mental health issues makes us feel better, ie he couldn’t just be an evil bastard.

Compare the reporting on mass shootings in the USA. Black kid shoots someone, they are a bad sort and part of a gang etc. White kid kills loads of kids in a school using automatic rifle, oh he had mental health issues.

I get that side. Just clarifying it's not where I was going. In many many cases the person is vulnerable. I do agree that the weight we gives that can vary. And the power we give to the "bad influence" also varies.

I believe the police have said this passes the threshold to be classed as a terrorist act. So far it appears to be a lone act and not linked to any group.

If he was radicalised it was probably our own mainstream reporting that did it.

Muhammad Ali said it years ago, western society brainwashes people into a white good, black bad from early on in life.

Examples he gave, blacksheep, angels all white etc.

They all do, if you looked at more than the DailyMail yourself you'd see this. Even the Guardian does this, despite not specifically using inflammatory words or headlines.

What does the picture tell you about the people who are landing in these boats?

They're all fighting aged men.

The point is all media reporting about lots of guys turning up in boats and being put up in hotels, whichever way they frame it, will eventually get to a lot of people.

This 'attacker', as the media frame him as, was an older man who lost loved ones recently and is was not in a good place. Son died and relationship with wife gone. Couple a lonely person in that position with constant news like this and its asking for trouble.

There's a saying, 'don't pick a fight with a man who has nothing left to lose'.

There's no upside to what happened.

We've all had hard times in life. Most of us don't firebomb immigration centres.

What gets me, is that the guy far right radicalisation has not been mentioned in the daily Mail at all, but again another article about the Manchester arena popped up.

Kinda looks like the right wing media is turning up the radio to cover the smell of a fart.

But then again it might be responsible journalism, to prevent anymore OAP’s from becoming radical far right extremists from their stupid immigration baiting articles.

Shocking how weak everyone has become nowadays.

Terrorists are all victims of "radicalisation".

Illegal immigrants are all victims of "people smugglers".

Sad that nobody is responsible for their own actions anymore.

You are confusing the difference between Power and Desperation, to make some weird and odd counter argument mishmash to justify reasoning for personal responsibility.

Put it this way,

You need to always look at the root cause of why a person commits an action.

Why would an 66 year old man, suddenly decide they were going to attack an immigration centre, then mysteriously die?

What factors led to his decision, what influences gave him the impetus to conduct the attack?

Was it Suella Braverman and her “Invasion” Rhetoric, or was it the right wing papers which have been pushing anti immigration sentiment in their papers for years and years, or is it far right extremist groups such as the who over the years have been calling for the purging of what they deem “foreigners” from these shores for even more years than anyone can care to remember? Or was it Enoch Powell and his rivers of blood speech?

Where did this man get his motivation from?

He had years of constant psychological conditioning to make him the way he was, and that led him down the path to attack an immigration centre.

No I now apparently have nothing to fear from terrorism. Terrorists are all older white men who are being radicalised by the Daily Mail and Express, possibly even by the Telegraph.

We won't be safe until people are only free to watch the BBC and read the Guardian.

I am not sure I am a key target for these people so I can go about my daily business without fear.

I just hope that the police and security services focus their efforts on these dangerous Mail readers and stop pestering innocent Muslims.

I suggest you look again. The mail has articles on the events and names the person responsible. They also report that far right extremism is a factor. The report is the same as the BBC report. Both BBC and mail reported both Dover incident and the Manchester incident

Should we despise Germany, Finland, and large parts of Poland forever more because they historically supported Nazis?

Was the Mail owned by the same people as own it now?

Just a couple of rhetorical questions to get the old rational thought cogs moving again.

"

You said rhetorical but I wanted to answer one specifically.

Viscount Rothermere is the owner of The Daily Mail. His grandfather, also Viscount Rothermere, was the owner in the 1930s. This family not only supported the Nazis but were active supporters of them and Oswald Mosley. AND they were also hugely critical of German Jews escaping Germany and coming to the UK as immigrants. They are lovely people.

This is completely false. There were a few, and they were removed from the party.

Labour are not worth voting for in my opinion. But there are real reasons, not made up reasons.

My point is that the poster is harking back to the 1930's as justification for criticism of the Daily Mail in 2022.

If that is valid criticism, then I'm afraid we need to be far more concerned about the presence of Jew baiters just three years ago in a national political party.

And I disagree totally that the Labour party has excised these people from the Party. The Labour Party is a nasty racist party, the only difference is that the racists aren't white, so people like you are prepared to apologise for it.

I think they were replying to the person who claimed the ownership was different then to now.

In any case, the newspaper pushes an anti immigration agenda and spreads fear and hate.

I'm not apologising for it. I said they kicked out the anti semites, which they have.

Aside from that, what racism are you talking about?

If you are against racism in political parties, there are bigger problems.

But if we're talking about kicking out all racists from public service. Then yes. I'm on board.

It's time the Mail was banned, force its readers to attend Struggle Sessions where they have to read back copies of the Guardian.

It should be sufficient punishment and will help improve the Guardian's circulation.

For the bad cases probably force them to sit through months of BBC programming.

"Good idea, you should go back 100 years as I know they supported the nazi’s in the 1930

Another parrot eh?

The Royal family supported Nazis at one point.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-33578174

Should we despise Germany, Finland, and large parts of Poland forever more because they historically supported Nazis?

Was the Mail owned by the same people as own it now?

Just a couple of rhetorical questions to get the old rational thought cogs moving again.

The Labour Party was (and probably still is) full of anti Semites under Corbyn.

Isn't it time we banned these hate mongers from standing for election?

This is completely false. There were a few, and they were removed from the party.

Labour are not worth voting for in my opinion. But there are real reasons, not made up reasons.

My point is that the poster is harking back to the 1930's as justification for criticism of the Daily Mail in 2022.

If that is valid criticism, then I'm afraid we need to be far more concerned about the presence of Jew baiters just three years ago in a national political party.

I think they were replying to the person who claimed the ownership was different then to now.

In any case, the newspaper pushes an anti immigration agenda and spreads fear and hate. "

I was indeed replying re continuation of ownership. However, there continued to be plenty example of similar behaviour by the Daily Mail right up to the present. Here’s just a few...

“As the Second World War loomed, the Daily Mail began to change its editorial line and moved away from explicitly supporting fascists and their regimes. But, the racism and xenophobia remained a key part of their ‘journalism’ and has continued through to this day.

A few weeks before the 2012 Olympics, the Mail claimed that the British team had 61 “plastic Brits” due to the fact they had been born oversees, ignoring the fact that the majority of the 61 were entitled to British citizenship from birth due to having British heritage. Also, this takes a very narrow, and frankly wrong, approach to what it means to be British.

The Mail was also outraged when the opening ceremony depicted a multicultural family. Because, according to Rick Dewsbury, it was “absurd” and “unrealistic” to show a “mixed-race middle-class family in a detached new-build home”. For him, this was done to appease the politically correct agenda that supposedly exists in Britain as he believes that in reality it would be a “challenge […] to find an educated white middle-aged mother and black father living together with a happy family in such a set-up”. After a flurry of complaints the Mail simply took the offending material off its website without uttering a word and definitely not an apology. However, an archived screen print can still be found.

In 2014 the Mail published a cartoon likening migrants to rats. Not only is the cartoon racist in its portrayal of Muslims – one man cannot be seen in any other detail other than his beard and a rifle poking out of his bag – but the choice of animal used harks back to Hitler’s Germany in 1939 when cartoons in newspapers often depicted Jews as rats – vermin that had to be got rid of.”

But hey, lovely newspaper with British values.

"I hope the security services crack down on those of Islamic Relgion or Muslim,it's not a British religion and has no place in UK.

Yes quite right. We don't want any religions from the middle East

Just when I thought you couldn’t top the “Jesus is a pensioner” post, you did it!

I guess the only true “British” religion should be Druidism!"

I can't take credit, this was especially low hanging fruit to pick.

Yes I've often noticed the similarities between the celebrity gossip pages of the Mail and the Volkischer Beobachter.

Today the Mail is focused on the death of Aaron Carter which is a clear dog whistle for the extermination of gypsies.

"It has been reported that the Dover fire bomb attack at a immigration centre was ‘ primarily motivated by an extremist right wing ideology’. Should we be concerned that this will happen again, it appears that these people are being radicalised from what I've read he was a very vulnerable member of our society.

That's the point though all people that are radicalised are vulnerable in some way or another and that is what these far right or other extremist group rely on.

How do people say about the Hungerford and later Dunblane shootings. There was very little internet . So what ‘triggered ‘ both these incidents?

That's very true.

I do remember when I was a kid seeing combat 18 and national front posters on bus stops and other places and my mum would always try to take them off.

I will add both the events above were not deemed to motivated by ideology although motives were never fully established in either case. It seems the Dunblane shootings seemed to be because the shooter was angry that he was sacked from being a scout leader and the Hungerford shooter was thought to be suffering a psychotic episode but as I said no solid motives just speculation.

We are not addressing the problem, OAP’s being radicalised by far right terror cells, who are grooming these people.

Taking old people and getting them to carry out acts of terror for their cause.

There are far right terrorists out there right now preying on vulnerable adults, who should be enjoying their golden years.

The situation is made worse that the current government is using claims of immigration invasions to disguise the fact that they have done jack shit in the past 12 years to deal with the problem, so they can use it as a talking point to prevent eyes on the mess they have caused by cutting budgets to borders and immigration.

If anything the cause of an increase in migration is because the tories have been asleep at the wheel for many years.

No wonder far right terrorists are having a field day. Because this government have given them the green light to grow and become stronger and more even organised.

I see that Starmer is saying that there is no case for rejoining the EU, and that the NHS should not be employing more foreigners.

I am wondering if his Press Team have been giving him copies of the Daily Mail to read. At the very least the security services should keep him under surveillance.

He is after all within the primary terrorist demographic: white, male, entitled, a failure, frustrated, approaching late middle age.

"We are not addressing the problem, OAP’s being radicalised by far right terror cells, who are grooming these people.

These are always good discussions. Long may they continue. Rather talk and inform and learn than worse things. What I do find rather troubling is the prejudices on all sides of the argument. If anyone so much as raises a squeek with concerns about the daily industrialised arrivals of illegal immigrants they are instantly labelled right wing fascists etc etc.there is no discussion, there is no opportunity to safely air their concerns for fear of being piled on. People are allowed to be right wing. People are allowed to be left wing. People are allowed to be in the centre. One is not right and the other wrong.

These people are making a decision to leave one safe country and arrive in England mostly. I have no idea what possible horrors are behind them. Presumably they judge they will be better in England than any of the countries they have travelled through to arrive here illegally. Its industrial scale monetisation is a cause. Why?

The folks who commit crimes against them should be dealt with the same as they would for committing crimes against anyone else. And if they commit crimes having arrived illegally they should be dealt with the same way.

But just shouting at and insulting people and ignoring their legitimate concerns does not make them go away. Nor is it right. Look what happened with brexit when we chose to ignore the concerns raised and called them idiots. Similarly sweeping it under the carpet and not talk g about it openly is it helping either.

The thread is about a guy who firebombed an immigration centre. It's a bit of a stretch to say he was raising a concern.

Although, I understand your overall point. The problem is, I don't see anyone raising any legitimate concerns. It's just overblown Daily Mail style ranting and raving about "foreigners". What can you do but poke fun at them?

I think ultimately it is convenient for our government that some people are blaming all their problems on illegal immigration.

This whole thing of I can't get a doctor's appointment, decent housing, A good school place or a better paid job because we have too many illegal immigrants coming into this country is very convenient for the government. Some people will argue words like invasion or swarm are just that words but they do have connotations whether we like it or not.

Agreed.

I have concerns in relation to the boat crossings and the amount of Albanians coming here but demonising all immigrants to this country and lumping them in as illegals which a lot of people do just doesn't help anybody.

I've seen posts on other platforms where people someone has said "yeah I've got a bunch of illegals at the end of my road they have been here 6 years and been given a council flat" Well if they have been given a council flat and been here 6 years they are not illegal and comments in a similar vain.

the trouble is the discussion needs to split out between asylum seekers (who often have to enter by irregular means) and those seeking to remain here illegally. I'd also throw in wider immigration.

If there are any sensible discussions they tend to get drowned out by those who conflate the three, or throw out views that effectively mean leaving existing treaties.

The whole "illegal immigrant" label plays part of this conflation. (intentional?) As well as dehumanisation.

"We are not addressing the problem, OAP’s being radicalised by far right terror cells, who are grooming these people.

"

What or who are these terror cells? Last I heard the guy was acting alone but I have not kept up with the story. Have the police now identified a particular group who radicalized him?

Even more details regarding the threat posed by Extreme Far Right Terror groups, Seems Counter Terrorist specialists have been seeing that Older Males are being targets by these groups and are being radicalised even more, this is becoming huge issue now with more plots being discovered within this grouping.

For god sakes why can't they just leave OAP's alone? We should be looking at safeguarding these individuals and protecting this vulnerable group from these sickos.

"Even more details regarding the threat posed by Extreme Far Right Terror groups, Seems Counter Terrorist specialists have been seeing that Older Males are being targets by these groups and are being radicalised even more, this is becoming huge issue now with more plots being discovered within this grouping.

For god sakes why can't they just leave OAP's alone? We should be looking at safeguarding these individuals and protecting this vulnerable group from these sickos. "

From what I've read the reason some older white men are being targeted is because they already have sympathies with far right Ideology.

It appears there are some cultural divides when it comes to horrendous crimes. Your white Brit tends to be a lone wolf, who engages loosely with a network. Whereaa other cultures are more organised. More individual mercenaries than an organised army.

(We see this outside of terrorism. It's the same with under age gr00ming)

This is probably why we seem to see more cases of right wing terrorism albeit on a smaller scale or success. Individuals fly through the net. But don't have the same level of organisation to cause huge harm.

Given this, as a right wing organisation, I don't need to be as proactive in recruiting and collaborating. I just seed the hatred and have plausible denial when they act. I can play on the shadows.

Leak had a level of hatred I can't comprehend. For me to want to kill someone they'd need to have done something horrific to my family. To have that level of hatred for a group of people would need some serious and constant psychological tormenting. I struggle to imagine how bad life must be to risk crossing the channel. I really struggle to imagine how angry I must be to drive 100 miles to attack people I have never met.

If he were an Islamic terrorist there would be a total news blackout. Maybe some mention on the day of the event of a mentally ill person causing a scene, then silence.

That's exactly what I was getting at. I have no doubt that if she was a white middle class girl she would not have faced the same fate. People would have been saying how she was a victim.

Like all the thousands of white working class girls who have been victims of grooming gangs, which hasn't been covered up by the authorities at all.

mmmm, that report mixed up a lot of things and took out a lot of things to come to a conclusion of, no credible evidence that any one ethnic group is over-represented in cases of child sexual exploitation. Not mentioning child grooming gangs, it lumped all things into the mix.

The report was of no use to anyone because of the way it was conducted and the way it compiled information in such a generic way.

I'm not saying what the reality is out there in the world, I clearly do not know, but I know enough not to rely on reports that have been clearly mishandled.

I agree it seems many just see him as a vulnerable man that's been exploited however if this was an Islamic terrorist I don't think we would be seeing the same sympathy even if he was in the same situation and the same age. agreed. It's more people asking for a name of a specific cell and because we can't, there not a real threat.

If he were an Islamic terrorist there would be a total news blackout. Maybe some mention on the day of the event of a mentally ill person causing a scene, then silence.

Completely detached from reality.

The media has been on a decades long crusade to demonise Islam. That's why we ended up with people like you, and the other chap posting confused angry stuff about Muslims. ...Lol,media demonize Islam?..think they do that themselves lol,it's a joke religion for the simple minded."

Care to explain how muslims demonise themselves?

"Even more details regarding the threat posed by Extreme Far Right Terror groups, Seems Counter Terrorist specialists have been seeing that Older Males are being targets by these groups and are being radicalised even more, this is becoming huge issue now with more plots being discovered within this grouping.

For god sakes why can't they just leave OAP's alone? We should be looking at safeguarding these individuals and protecting this vulnerable group from these sickos.

Who are these groups? What are they calling themselves? Sounds like they should be illegal from what you say

Most of them are as far as I'm aware. There are a few of you see that have listed themselves as political parties...bloke prob just pissed off with immigration crisis, like the silent majority, he done his own protest, right wing terror group? Lol..nonsense ,unless ya a drama mer chant.

It doesn't matter if people are p***** off you cannot take the law into your own hands and risk the lives of others simply because you feel immigrants are the route of all your problems. Would you have said the same if it had been an Islamic terror attack? ...Immigration and religion are 2 different things, get the basics right love if you wish to be took seriously.

If you would like to be taken seriously maybe don't come back with a misogynistic patronising comment. Nice swerve the question though "

...don't understand half the snowflake words you used there.

So that's all muslims is it and no other faith or cultural background does this no? Are you going to answer the question?

Most race hate comment on here in a while. And that's saying something.

Well done.

I don't know if you're trolling, or if you're genuinely this confused and hateful. Either way, it's a pathetic post.

It is true that people should not take things into their own hands but I don't understand the reference to religion. People who follow Islam can be both left and right wing in politics as well as middle ground. Also people who follow Islam are also fully entitled to be frustrated at the immigration situation in the channel. Putting people into pigeon holes is a mistake and does not do them any favours

I'm not putting anyone into any kind of pigeon hole it was a very simple question. Where did I say it had to be a right or left Islamic attack?

Is this going to stop far right terror grooming gangs preying on disaffected old people?

We’ve got to stop these extreme right online predators from converting these OAP’s into weapons in their deadly campaign to spread fear and hate among the communities in the UK.

The whole thread is about right wing and for some reason you decided to include religion. Religions and being concerned about a particular situation are two separate things. Islamic people can be just as concerned and can sadly act in a way we saw the other day in Dover
