Food importers in UK say new Brexit checks could add 60% to costs - headline from Guardian this evening.
Okay - this sounds bad when you read it. Any price increase is bad.
If you read between the lines, this is actually a benefit.
British farmers and manufacturers are consistently being undercut by imports from the EU which are not stopped to be checked at our ports.
If this is stopped then (apart from the short term price increases) it gives British farmers the opportunity to produce, sell and make profits thus bringing more employment and making the UK more self sufficient.
It was one of the things that was promised by those wanting to leave the EU and it is now becoming a reality.
Let's see how it plays out in real life! |

Assumption is that what we are importing is what we growing here.
And that UK farmers can grow more to meet demand.
Or what will happen is we get less choice for our money with an increase in costs of our current British staples.

Also assuming that another increase in the cost of living (more expensive food shopping) is a Brexit benefit. Some might argue that it isn't. |

60% more anti brexit lies. Some one has a very long nose. We in Northern Ireland face EU tarifs every time we buy from the rest of our Uk. Because of No 10 trading us away in hope of a better deal for England. We face EU tarifs on all goods from the UK which is our main supply line. Pushing our costs higher than those in GB. |

On the other hand the UK has opted out of the EU Safety Rules for cars to have mandatory speed alarms fitted (later to be speed regulators). So at least you can thank Brexit for the EU not tracking your car and doing the driving for you. |

Money available from woodland trust for planting trees on farmland, depending on density 200-400 trees ha, land can still be used for livestock or interplanted arable.
Target of 300,000 news homes a year will require BNG habitat creation with uplift of 10%, which is good for the environment.
Cheaper meat is available from NZ and Aus. The number of smaller farmers, less than 100 ha has halved in last 60 years, while the average farmers age has increased. Agriculture as share gdp is now less than 0.6% |
