Crackdown on Barber Shops

Good work by the Govt and National Crime Agency in launching overdue action against 'Turkish' barber shops. An investigation has found many cash only businesses are declaring large incomes despite being empty all day.

Hopefully this action will be extended to all the other cash only businesses which are obviously fronts for money laundering and illegal immigration.

Whilst great in one respect, I do fear it's the beginning of a clampdown on cash altogether.

"Whilst great in one respect, I do fear it's the beginning of a clampdown on cash altogether. "

Of course it is. The money being laundered creates a tax revenue, why clampdown on that unless there's a more desirable alternative.

If the money is fuelling criminal activity the tax revenue may still be negative overall. Also these businesses may be artificially increasing high st rents and so keeping out legitimate businesses that would pay tax without the negatives.

So it's OK to carry on with a criminal enterprise so long as you pay tax? The drug dealers are going to sleep easier from now on...

Not a large extent these businesses have legalised the drug trade. Councils and the HMRC clearly tolerate or even encourage them to generate revenue, even though their true nature is blindingly obvious in most cases.

.

The only reason the government has got involved is because the tax money they're losing out on, Same reason scrap dealers had to stop paying out in cash

It is only a proper crackdown if the shops are shut down for good.

Apparently some reopened a few minutes after the raids, and were being restocked with illegal cigarettes within hours.

Small beer going after these targets

£1.7bn in Dodgy vip Covid contracts. Baroness Mone had £203million of that still not recovered.

Lammy just gave £50million to the new ISIS Syrian government while Starmer has legislated the tax payer to take over £700,000 daily losses from British Steel.

All very true and I agree. I just don't believe the people making those decisions think in that joined up way due to demarcation.
