Is it the one with the title “ Stop financial and other support for asylum seekers”?
Sadly this will be dismissed as quickly as it is presented. Labour believes that there is a never ending supply of tax revenue from working people that should rather be spent on those that don’t contribute to the economy. The wisdom of Thatcher is dismissed by those who either claim benefits or are wealthy enough not to worry about tax revenue being spent on individuals that don’t contribute to making the UK economy competitive.
I appreciate that there will be a number of comments about my lack of social conscience or some lame argument about our global responsibilities, either because we are a global super power  or to redress colonialism. |

They don't debate any of these petitions in the HoC, it's without the Speaker and in held in Westminster Hall - no vote is binding, so it's all a waste of time. It's a discussion by what they call 'A Committee of the Whole House'. Wonder whether they'll be debating the Romans, or the Vikings, or the Normans, or the Danes, or the Scots, or the Angles, or the Saxons (or any of the other groups that have been immigrants to these islands...) Love it when the Yanks complain about immigrants - should deport anyone other than the First Nation natives (though they came across the land-bridge from Siberia originally...) so maybe they should be kicked out too! |

How is it currently affecting you OP? Ie it's a major focus to get something into a petition, especially when we already know it gets parliament s time and media attention every week.
What are you planning to do with asylum seekers who are here?

In an ideal world it shouldn't be considered political. That said a lot of things around immigration have become way too partisan in recent years. |

Asylum seekers get £40 a week for food, clothing, toiletries and anything else they need to, which is not much at all. Maybe those of you signing the petition would like to see female asylum seekers not able to purchase sanitary towels ect ...males not able to buy condoms ect ect.
Trouble is wherever they are housed people object.
There are a lot of genuine asylum seekers who have fled from terrible situations.

What is nonsense? People discussing things that are a concern to them and their families? What should they do about it? Not discuss it? Or not discuss it in pubs? One of the many issues is that when people try to discuss it, it gets shot down by people either as ill informed nonsense, right wing blabla or not really an issue we have plenty of room and infrastructure and a coherent and funded plan to grow our population by another 3 million in the next 5 years.? Or should we just ignore and pretend it's not happening? |

Because there's a completely different vibe in the different sections. Politics threads in Lounge almost always end up fractious and unpleasant whereas in Politics they can be salty but different opinions are generally tolerated. The standard of debate is much higher and there are some very well informed posters who only post there.
Also why have a Politics Section is Politics threads are placed there? |

I think many aspects of life will crossover into politics and it's quite subjective where that line is. I'm happy to let the mods manage that, they do seem to do so.
I don't think I've witnessed better standards of debate or tolerance in the politics section, if I'm honest. Maybe I I need to check it out again, if that's the case.
The different vibe thing, I am not sure I consider that a positive, but I do see that.
