Can someone please explain why the US forcing Japan to own even more of the US is a win ?

Not being an economist I'd have thought Japan will be charging a lot of interest on their loans/ investments ?

When you say forcing Japan to own more of the US, are you referring to the US bonds Japan own?

He says he instructed Japan to "invest" another half a trillion in the US God knows what he means

How can you figure out someone who's going to reduce drug prices by 1000%

Maybe the markup on medicinal rugs is 1000% and Mr trump is saying it his way, in a round about way of reduce the overpricing of medicinal drugs.

I think I understand what you are asking, but this is a very high level view, there are a number of moving parts but the basics are here but not water tight.. The Japanese have a trading surplus with the US. What they have been doing for a long time now is putting that surplus back into US bonds, called US treasuries, think of them in the same way as gilts.

The US use that money to fund their spend and they pay interest at a controlled rate. This is a good way to keep the dollar and Yen under control, whilst giving the US money to spend that they don't need to raise taxes to do, or borrow at rates they can't dictate.

Trump has raised tariffs on Japan at 15%, which brings extra revenue to the US Treasury, as well as more money coming into US treasury bonds which allows for more spending without tax hikes. He has created more tax and increased the US borrowing capacity.
