House building rates in England have fallen
201,000 homes got their first Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) in the 12 months to June 2025, down 8% from the year before, continuing a fall that began under the Conservatives. Rayner said 1.5 million new homes would be built equivalent to 300,000 a year.
Separately reported that right to buy has cost the country £200bn under Tory and Labour selling off council housing at a discount, now leaving 112,000 families in short term accommodation.
Private landlords disincentivised with the 5% stamp duty surcharge, and holiday homes / airbnb being sold off at a pace with doubling council tax.

In her latest misguided move, Rayner has approved the sale by councils of allotments for building. An ancient charter requires that only Westminster can permit allotment sales. Allotments that have been in families for generations are being grabbed. So much for the welfare and wellbeing of Labour's electors. |

Hi when i was an apprentice the amount of derelict houses was 300,000,governments changed vat rules,mortgage rules and planning permission,to make it cheaper to build new homes,that didn't work,if they(governments) want to end the housing shortage they could,the rich fucking the poor,by the way I was a apprentice 40 years ago, happy swinging x |
