Is anyone else scared

Is there anyone out there who is scared the way this country is going all you hear every day is a murder here or a stabbing or a shooting somewhere..im so glad i grew up in the 70 to 90 where we could play out all day when we was young.then when we got older was out clubbing nearly 7 nights a week for under a tenner during the week.was safe to walk home after a night out.had beetween 50 and 60 pubs and clubs to choose from at least.now you got maybe 2 nightclubs and about 20 pubs..feel so sorry for the young ones today..nobody is safe anywhere.. |

good point but we still didnt worry when we was younger about being stabbed or shot at..think the worse two things i remember when i was younger was the Yorkshire ripper.and john lennon getting shot..

No, because I think many have their rose tinted glasses on with regards to the 90's at least. I had a friend assaulted by a taxi driver, less likely these days as people can track your way home. I had my drink spiked in a club in the 90's. I'm more aware of it now and take better precautions.
It may appear that it was safer back then, but I think people are more open to discussing attacks themselves days and that news is further diseminated due to social media. which is good e.g. drink spiking and knowing how to prevent it |

I think because of social media, it is just broadcasted a lot more.
However, having said that. My personal opinion is that the UK when it had its global Empire, it was able to hide its social problems well. Now that it isn't as rich or powerful as it once was, can't do that anymore. |

My parents grew up in WW2. My dad was 18 when it finished and recalls hiding under a table while a plane sprayed bullets across his house. I'd say that was pretty scary and this would have been around 1942.
Of course things are bad when we have daily reports of stabbing, murder and mystery most foul but the odds are still in our favour and living your life scared isn't living |

It is a little concerning but my biggest worry now is the constant raising of prices and taxes. For the first time in my working life I'm having to count every penny and genuinely worried about losing my job and the downward spiral that starts. |

I think most generations experience that worry at some point. We certainly did at least twice over the course of our working lives |

According to the ONS, serious crime rose from the 70's to it's peak in early 2000's.
Since then, serious crime has been in decline and is back at the level of the early 70's
So the time you remember as being safe had the highest level of serious crime in the last 75 years (Only went back to 1950) |

What does piss me off is the fact that house prices and standard of living has increased exponentially and yet minimum wages haven't risen to be consistent with this at all.
We are being taken for fools in this country and it is no wonder so many bright young people want to leave.

i see and hear a lot here in blackpool now.i got followed home from a swingers club 7 years ago and got beat up by 4 guys all i did was protect 2 ladies from them and they got thrown out.didnt no they was waiting for me ended up with broken teeth fractured arm broken nose fractured ribs.ive never been out since lost confidence.suffered with health problems to.and i worked the doors in Blackpool for 20 years.i do watch the news a bit now but i see more on social media. |

There was a fatal shooting on tuesday and armed police called to the flats to apprehend a gun man on Wednesday in my neighbourhood last week. 5000 years ago there was probably more violence and mu7d3r on a daily basis. Humans are violent creatures and probably always will be. I still walk around the streets alone at 4am. |

Statistically violent crime has never been lower. With the exception of r@pe.

I don’t think any threat of violence concerns me. But then I’m big enough and strong enough to fight off any attacker in most circumstances, but I can’t speak for others who may be more vulnerable.
Certainly I hold my possessions closer to me when walking around cities that I would have done even a few years ago. And the stench of is everywhere.
I think the UK will probably be okay for my generation to live its time out comfortably enough outside of major conurbations but I suspect that younger generations are going to have a much more difficult time of it with ever increasing taxes, poorer services, low economic growth, little social cohesion and increased racial and religious tensions and violence.
There is just a general atmosphere of decay and failure about the UK and Europe.
And younger generations face a future with the UK and Europe generally just being a shrinking and less important part of a much bigger world.
Personally if I was under 30 I would definitely be looking for an exit from the UK. |

Having just returned from some time on the Continent, I can say a Saturday night in a UK town or city is uniquely loud, d*unken, boisterous and threatening. Not a pleasant experience. |

Where I live near City road Cardiff is the most amazing place.
We have every food on the planet all within walking distance or the touch of an app.
I can go for shisha, before heading into town.
I see beautiful men walking to mosque especially on a Friday.
The Synagogue and Temples of the Hindu and Sikhs, the Krishna Centre and Buddhist centre.
We all mix together in a beautiful tapestry, learning about each other's languages, religions and histories.
There's nothing to fear, embrace it! |
