After the Caerphilly by election result… and the win for plaid
Does that say more about Labour in the way their support collapsed , or more about reform uk in that they didn’t take advantage and people still voted “anyone but…….” |

Absolutely.
The surge in Green Party membership — now breaking 100,000 and still climbing — is one of the clearest signs yet that Labour’s grip on progressive voters is weakening.
People aren’t drifting to Reform; they’re peeling away from Labour because they feel politically homeless — disillusioned by centrism and silence on issues that matter. Climate, Gaza, electoral reform — and for many of us, trans rights.
The Greens are now the only major party consistently and vocally standing with trans people, and I’m one of those who joined because of that. When people are willing to back the Greens despite first-past-the-post, that’s not apathy — that’s protest. And it’s one Labour should be very worried about. |

I live in S Wales, their is a lot of discontent with Welsh labour as well as discontent with the Westminster lot. some extra money has come to Wales but not nearly enough. Wrong derisions & failing to make any decision as mentioned by the previous post about trans rights, show the party have lost direction & identity |

It says a lot about a party that has changed from one that stood up for workers rights to one which now implements policies which make blue collar workers worse off whilst seemingly prioritising those on benefits and taking a soft approach to crime it's inevitable that Labours traditional support base would collapse. |

Good news on the election result, May elections next. Four ministers, deputy PM and ambassador gone already.
Rumoured an income tax rise in the autumn strength will nail Reeves incompetency.

To be fair Plaid had a very strong local candidate with a good track record in local government.
Reform could have done better but it was pretty obvious that there was quite a lot of tactical voting. Having a nationalist to throw your protest vote at is all fine and dandy in Wales and Scotland. But that won't work in England, especially the north.
For Labour it was a disaster no matter which way you look at it. They had held that seat from day one and the area has been solid Labour for a hundred years and they didn't get pipped into second place. They finished third.
Serious alarm bells in No 10 methinks.

speaking to those on site today who actually live in the constituency shows that they dislike the english nationalism brand that reform is attempting to flog. they speak about the welsh exchequer being defunded since the european investments dried up after brexit. they see through the claims that things like HS2, Hinkley etc being declared english & welsh projects to circumvent the barnet formula whilst NI and scotland recieve enormous sums of money and they are more than pissed off.
but the most popular phrase on site was .... fuck reform. |

To a certain extent yes.
But it's not an English National Party in the way that the Welsh and Scottish are. |

I have been amazed for years that Wales kept returning Labour MPs. They have treated the votes as foregone conclusions and have barely even bothered about the Welsh as a result. It should be a wake up call for Labour but I think this just shows that that ship has already sailed. Labour is the past there now.
I love the country and the people but if Plaid got in and gained independence then the country wouldn’t be able to stand on its own two feet. It has the same problem that Scotland has - too many very remote and poorly connected communities and an economic base that is too small and too localised. The cost of running the country is just too high. I think the Welsh know this so I am not convinced they really want a Plaid that will push independence too hard. Better to complain about the English and just take their money |

here in wales the majority i speak to disagree. they see reform as absolutely english nationalism and they just aren't interested in their english rhetoric. |

At the ballot box a damn site more said fuck Labour. |

Most repeated phrase by how many? 10, a dozen, 20 or maybe even 50?
It certainly will be nowhere near the 11,000 who didn't say fuck Reform at the ballot box.

Businesses always say that if any improvements in wages or conditions are proposed . unemployment is lower than it was when I started working despite improvements in health & safety, shorter hours, minimum wage etc. |

It is not a surprise, I am glad people are expressing their dislike of how politicians are going about their business and showing this by voting.
But they do not care they really do not care,
Got caught having an affair, just say sorry,
got caught tax evading, just say sorry
got caught lying, just say sorry.
got caught knocking out a voter, just say sorry after a few days in prison.
I personally will never go to a polling station ever again to vote for these jokers.
Highest utilities prices in Europe.
Highest taxes in Europe.

That should resonate with the labour leadership as even if plaid had not pulled if this impressive victory, labour would still likely loose. Question is, will they take this seriously or ignore it |

I think they will ignore it, may as well continue to do as they please, if we speak up they will just make new laws to disenchant and divide us. |

Reform went from nothing to a very comfortable 2nd place
Let’s see if Kier try’s to block local elections for 2nd time in May 26.
If he does it will only confirm his dictator like policies even more |

Just to add, Reform weren't too far being Plaid at 37%, Labour 11%, bit thankfully Con, Green, Liberal we're all barely 2% each.
Hopefully a good sign that the Conservative part of the Uniparty is dead. Now we just need wait for Labour to stop circling the drain. |

under the new voting system next year any party with less than 12% does not get any seats so a 2 horse race? |

probably .... welsh culturalism on the one side and english nationalism which is unappealing to the majority on the other. |
