I’m so fed up with the UK at the moment.
Labour have really fucked it up.
Everything is so expensive.
Imigration is at its all time high.
Crime is so high.
Which is mainly kids. There our on control. Knife crime is out of control.
Coerce control is abuse. Yes the government do it to us every day. Or trying.
I don’t want to get it to a political debate.
Just expressing. |

Sorry, but I have to ask, if you don’t want it to be a political debate, why post on the politics forum?
For what it’s worth, politics affects every single aspect of our lives, so the points you raise are political. |

we seem to lack politicians with vision integrity, charisma & inspiration . we seem to vote out one lot who are doing a poor job to be replaced with another dull lot who stumble from one bad decision to another. No one seems to have a positive outlook at the moment |

All the time we have a left right divide we will always have a public angry. We need a party that’s not going to blame the right or the lefts boogeymen to further that divide and just try to close the hate divide. Until then we will be on rinse and repeat. With no way to oust the current sitting group till the 5 years are up. |

Would a party of national unity be any better than the current system? Regardless of their political affiliation I firmly believe that all politicians are self serving and put their own interests before that of everyone else. Hopefully our future AI robot overlords will be more considerate. |

"I’m so fed up with the UK at the moment."
It's has never been perfect in the UK but we are one of the richest and most successful countries on the planet.
We have beautiful countryside, vibrant cities, a fascinating history and have had global influence in science, technology, literature, music, film and more.
We have been a country of migrants for thousands of years, even our King is a second generation migrant.
Our diversity and openness to new ideas has been one of our greatest strengths.
According to the ONS "crime against individuals and households has generally decreased over the last 10 years with some notable exceptions, such as fraud". The number of homicides has decreased by 6% since last year and is the lowest it's been since current police recording practices began in 2003. Offences involving knives or sharp instruments decreased by 5% since last year.
Stop moaning and try to make the world a better place.

I am frankly bored with the constant moaning about the country. Could it be better? Definitely. Could it be worse? Without a shadow of a doubt!
I think people who think we live in a shithole should choose some random place on an atlas and visit it. I can almost guarantee that it will make the UK look like paradise and you will be fighting to get back here.
The vast majority of the world is horrendous to live in but most people have never seen it. They go to the same sanitised places and stay in the same sanitised hotels.
Go on a proper trip around the world and then tell me the UK is bad. |

Do you honestly think the state of the country is down to the short time Labour have been in charge??
It was fucked long before they took over, Why do you think the Tories intentionally imploded to make them seem incompetent so noone voted for them.
They realised they had dug themselves into a hole they couldn't get out of.
I'll admit labour are just compounding the problems but the current state of the country has been year's in the making. |

Politics is a mess and has been for a long while. A strong factor is money drives the power but possibly a lot of the things listed are societal which the public should acknowledge their responsibility too.
Children committing crime. Thats not the fault of politics, police, teachers etc. They are surely the second line of moral teaching.
It does feel like apathy has consumed the world. Meh, what can we do about it? |

I work overseas and am delighted everytime I see this country out of a plane window when I return home and realise how very, very lucky we all are.
I'm of an age when I've seen every flavour of government and if you think one will make your life any better, you are mistaken.
The only person who can fulfill your life, is you, not the government.
These forums seem so doom laden and full of angst, its not the world or life that I see.
Hope you all find happiness in the not too distant future, there's a big, fabulous, fulfilling world out there, when you find it, shake it by the horns and it will pay you back one hundred fold.
Try and look for the good and amazing things, the shit will always be around and worrying over something you have no control is a complete waste of time and effort.
Good luck and sorry for sounding positive.

I’ve never voted Labour in my life but for balance new Labour doubled the then national debt and masked it rising further with 700 PFI contracts we are still paying for. In isolation one £80bn PFI contract for the nhs delivered £13bn investment. Add £20bn and 400+ dead service personnel for their illegal Iraq war.
As we are now seeing this Labour government are worse, corruption minister resigned for corruption, homeless minister resigned for making her tenants homeless, US ambassador a previous mortgage fraudster under Blair appointed by starmer and resigned for links to sex offender, two homes Rayners tax avoidance and possible misappropriation of sons trust fund, free clothes for the front bench - undisclosed free gifts from donor Alli
As for Reeves, lied on her CV and published a book plagiarised with extracts from Wikipedia. |

That covid inquiry report is biased tosh. In hindsight we should never have locked down at all and just asked people to minimise unnecessary gatherings. The greatest damage was done by the lockdowns, followed closely by discharging infected people from hospitals to care homes.
Then again, hindsight is always 20/20 vision. |

Really?
Representative government in France = no government. They've gone through 5 PM's in just over a year.
Representative government in Germany = the party that led the previous government and got well and truly booted out with only 16% of the vote are now, yep you guessed it, part of the new government.
Representative government in Spain = minor single issue party's with, in some cases, less than a handful of MP's propping up a governing party that was miles away from a majority.
Representative......My arse. |

I don't get this, the country was going to pot with all the things you complain about well before this Gov were voted in. If people are expecting miracles after just over a year then your expectations are way too high.
Any sensible person would think you have to give them a chance to sort the mess out, it won't happen overnight or even after a year.
A lot of the media is not reporting what they have done up to now, I suppose that wouldn't fit the narrative but if you go look into it you will see how much they have done.

I am fed up of government ministers telling us that they are not afraid to make difficult decisions and exhibit exactly that trait because they will be pilloried . I can see that crime is rampant . Shoplifting ,antisocial behaviour , criminal gangs and organised crime. A criminal justice system thats soft on criminals and releases them because we don't have enough prisons .A budget shortfall that grows because our economy is not growing and government spending beyond it's available funding . I am not going to leave the country but I am so disappointed with the direction we are going in. |

It may be a political earthquake but will anything change? Off the top of my head I can only think of two occasions when life improved for the working class. After the Second World War and The Black Death.
The real earthquake would be if the middle class and working class stood together because both groups are getting pulled back further and further.
Personally, I'd love to see a party that's a mix of Reform, Labour and the Greens. I don't think the Conservatives have anything to offer now. |

To be fair to those people, Labour did run an election with phrases like "we'll hit the ground running" and "a vote for Labour is a vote for change". They did give the strong impression that they would get things done quickly.
If they'd said that the country was in a mess and it would take time to fix it, people might now be giving them a bit more leeway. |

And as we are now seeing, they can’t raise the money to meet the _anifesto pledges.
Three and a half years left to build 1.5 million houses. And Reeves rabbiting on about repaying the national debt - £3trn - has anyone worked out a feasible loan repayment plan for that?

Under Blair and Brown, including the financial crisis, Labour increased the national debt by 690bn.
Under Cameron, May and a little bit of Johnson, with no financial crisis, the Tories increased the national debt by 796bn.
That was before COVID. If we include that, the full tory 14 years increased our national debt by 1634 bn
‘Party of fiscal responsibility’ dont ya know. |

Add 717 PFI contracts signed by new Labour costing at the last count £301bn. "
Tbf, they only carried on what Major started.
If you are long enough in the tooth, you should know that planting your flag on either of these two political parties & defending either of them to the hilt is a mugs game.
Claiming the Tories are the party of fiscal responsibility any longer is for the birds.
It’s just like saying Labour are the natural custodians of the NHS then taking a look at Wales. |

"what can you do about it though?
Ask your MP to get behind PR.
We need proper representation in Parliament.
The 2 party system isn’t serving the country well at the moment.
Trying to use 19th Century methods to solve 21st Century problems out.
Be careful what you wish for.
A quick look at the shambles in Germany, France and Spain is the best advert against PR ever.
I don’t see any shambles in those countries? Just representative democracy in action.
Can’t be that bad in Spain, judging by your profile location?
"
I didn't say it was bad.
The comment was about "representative government" and Spain is far from it. |

Very true.
I'd just pick up one point though.
Yes the original idea for PFI did come from Major's government but it was Blair/Brown who put it on steroids. |
