Overhaul of the NHS (not strictly a budget issue).

Simplified taxation.

A flat rate tax for everyone and remove avoidance loopholes. Approx 20% for everyone, that way everyone pays a fair proportion. Earn 20k pay 4k for your health care, emergency services, roads etc. Be successful, earn 100k then pay 20k. Less incentive to hide what would be taxed at 40-70% rate.

Council tax - why should 1 person pay the same as 6 people for services? A person could live side by side with a 6 person house but pay the same for amenities even though in theory that person uses a 6th of amenities.

Maybe I'm just a dreamer.

Terra Firma

A budget with focus towards business growth.

5 year plan with a clear roadmap. Increase income tax across the board by 2p in the £ to stabilise public finances and build resilience. Keep it straightforward, with a transparent rise for five years.

Cap welfare to CPI.

No above inflation rate public sector pay rises.

Remove employee NI increases that were imposed last year, and encourage exports with tax incentives.

If the country is seeing a resurgence at the 5 year point, public sector workers are awarded +3% above inflation rise, employee NI rates remain at the lower level, and lower band income tax earners are returned to their previous rates.

A fantasy budget ..

Well labour could simply put the clock back to last June when there was no national debt and huge borrowing numbers, and not needed to borrow like the Tories didn't do in their tenure..

I do miss Boris's sunny post Brexit uplands that have now gone..

What have Labour done to the 40 hospitals and tens of thousands of new doctors and nurses that we had under the Tories..

That's precisely why I supported the 'Prole' tax during the very short time that it existed.

Unfortunately those ruling the country at the time realised that it was going to enfranchise a new tranche of hostile voters.

The Outer Rim

introduce several more council tax bands with an increase in cost for the upper bands and a decrease of the lower 3 or so bands.

increase corporation tax over three years so it equalises with main corporation tax of 25% to stop wankers from abusing limited liability and thus stealing from the taxpayer.

charge vat on financial services

obliging regulated financial institutions to report anually on the accounts of limited companies, limited liability partnerships and trusts to stamp out corporation tax abuse. financially penalise non compliance. remove limited liability from those found to be abusing the system, including directors shareholders and various other positions.

scrap child benefit altogether.

In the spirit of "Full fantasy" and not my personal opinion....

First steps would be to tax any individual who wants to increase taxation for those who are successful as their main priority, a 10% envy tax.

Any person who believes the public purse should be spent on anything other than the growth of the country, taxed a further 10% on every tax they pay, including car tax, council tax, NI, income, VAT, stamp duty, tv licence, and IHT. And a further 20% on any other tax I have not mentioned. (A level English right there )

How would this be enforced? Setting up a crack unit of internet sleuths to trawl social media posts, criminal records, face recognition at protests, job titles, and fashion sense. Once individuals are identified, begin enforcement without recourse.

On second thoughts, I'm not sure of the ROI.

Convert all public sector pensions to Defined Contribution but in a phased approach: immediate effect for new joiners, and for future contributions made by the under 45s (as they would still have another 23 working years to adjust). Any public sector worker aged over 45 also moved to DC but allowed to retire early pretty much as today i.e. 55 on but with a reduced pension. Remember the public sector pension liability is the largest single liability on or off UK plc's balance sheet.
