Perhaps the UK might be next.

After all, we are an advance staging point in to Europe, and at the front line of defence to the USA if their area of interest expands further out across the Atlantic.

Could we stop them ? Not really, no.
.
We have an estimated untapped 7.5 billion barrels of oil & gas in the North Sea. That would add an extra 30% to the USA's existing untapped potential. (Greenland has a lot more : 31 billion barrels)
