Would China really want to weather the political and economic fallout from that at this time? They're in no hurry - their star is rising at the moment and, in 10-15 years, there will be nothing on Earth for them to worry about should they annexe Taiwan.
Once they have every small and mid economy in hock to them, control rare earth minerals, have fully modernised their army and have the world even more dependent on their manufacturing... Nobody will even consider economic sanctions. And China has plenty of time to wait - it's not like their government is going to change a re-election time. There are genuine, tangible advantages to their method of government. |

They'll never control rate earth minerals. Those minerals aren't rare at all, they're scattered all over the earth, they're just difficult to extract. China has a near monopoly at the moment because they can extract them for less money than anyone else is willing to. If they stopped supply, you'd see mines opening up all over the world. Yes, the price of those minerals would rise a bit, but there would be no shortage of them. |

Certain factions certainly seem to be very racist in their genocide condemnations and accusations of what an illegal war is. The weirdest part is, it seems the bulk of those who hate white people tend to be white. Except Diane Abbot and Lenny Henry of course. |

I do agree Trump is not tied down but probably for different reasons to the ones you would choose. One of the benefits of being as capricious and “flexible” as Trump is is that because he hasn’t actually defined an explicit goal he could wake up one morning, say he has done why he set out to do and then walk away.
It would leaving a smouldering ruin of a country with the same basic power structures in place but it would be entirely in keeping in character. I think the Chinese know that too. They will bide their time. |
