The Greatest Ever Briton Sir Winston Churchill, and other British icons like Alan Turing, Jane Austen and David Beckham are being removed from banknotes to replaced by images of harmless wildlife such as sparrows and squirrels.
Is there no end to this woke madness, or do you fancy a beaver with your tenner ? |

Greatest ever, what a stupid comment. The man was nasty. Cool to see real inspirations on notes. Not warmongering bad politicians who turned guns on people they are supposed to serve. Need to get rid of the other side, expensive parasites |

How long before some people really find reasons to be offended about these animal pictures?
I have seen people in the IT companies I worked for complain about using the the word "warroom" because it's traumatic for people coming from war torn countries and "lockdown"(when talking about code lockdown) because it's traumatic for people who were affected badly by COVID.

I remember that. Lots of corporations and even open source mysql projects ended up migrating from using master/sl@ve terminology to leader/follower or whatever new terms they cooked up. Trump's win put an end to that circus for now. |

Emma Soames, the granddaughter of Winston Churchill, has stated that she’s is happy with his picture being replaced on £5 note by British wildlife.
I would think that her opinion is far more important than “Outraged of Tunbridge Wells”.

That public consultation saw input from only 44,000 people, and the BoE are known for having 'consultations' that happen to confirm their existing plans. Just look at the press releases they have put out saying that choosing wildlife will allow them to include anti-counterfeiting measures that are essential to making the currency safer.
I'm disappointed that notable people will be dropped. I think bank notes should have something that the country can be proud of, whether that's British people, or inventions, or discoveries, or even art. We can't be proud of wildlife, it grew here all on its own and has nothing to do with being British. |

Yes, proud was the wrong way to look at it. I should have used the phrase that the BoE did - "symbolises the UK". Whether you like Churchill or not, he's definitely recognisable world-wide as representing the UK.
We don't have any native animals that are unique to the UK, nor do we have any that represent the UK (unless we include lions and unicorns and dragons). It'll be interesting to see which animals they come up with for the next consultation. |

Out of interest if the UK does not have any animals that are unique to it and the BoE wanted something that symbolises the UK then how did the choose beavers? The UK has plenty of well known people, some of whome had a big impact on the world so I say stick with them |
