No if you don't give the people paying for something what they want then they will not buy it.
Also cellers a kept cold so bear stays fresh. Maybe better if restaurants turned off fridges to save money and sell gone of food. |

It’s not actually said that, has it?
It says ‘turn bottle fridges off overnight’ to save energy. |

Only because Clarkson hadn't followed through on his promise of standing for Milibands seat at the local elections
"
Indeed, because the British public would elect a celebrity over an actual politician - that’s not sarcasm, they would.
That’s also the best argument against us becoming a republic. We’d have President Joey Essex in no time. |

Maybe our politicians should take the hint and sort their ideas out
Trumps election in 2016 should have been their wake up call |

Fridges are more economical to leave ON, instead of turning off every night.
This is because fridges are efficient at holding a temperature.
If you turn off the bottle fridge and everything warms up over night, the compressor has to work harder to pull everything back down to 2-5 deg C.
That's called a "recovery phase" and it uses more energy than just ticking over all night.
.
Now a fridge full of cold bottles is even better because each bottle is a "cold battery" and adds to the ambient temp inside the fridge. Thus less work for the compressor to do overnight.
.
The only you'd want to turn it off is if the fridge is completely empty, or you are going to be closed for several days. |

I don’t know, I’m not an expert in thermodynamics or energy.
I do know that nobody has suggested serving warm beer though. |

Well the entry saving trials undertaken appear to have been successful - with pubs reporting sizeable results - though the articles don’t mention what actions were undertaken to achieve these outcomes.
But were agreed that the title of this thread is misleading at least? |

Have you not read the criticism? It wont save energy as the fridge has warmed up and will need to work harder to bring the temp back down.. Hygiene, food and safety being ignored along with the actual issue of high energy prices.
This advice is from the government backed energy saving tool, the irony... |

Lets stick to the advice given, it appears to be wrong, and it is of no surprise when the tool is being backed by the government, it hasn't been produced to show no ROI.
It also shows little imagination from Miliband to make a real difference, more of a chest puffed out ride on the back of others.
There is so much more he could be doing |

Why are you ignoring the trial though? Have you looked into it?
“An innovative new digital energy saving tool has already helped slash the average energy bills of 90 hospitality businesses by nearly £2,500 during a 12-month trial period, by reducing overnight energy consumption for some trialists by up to 66%”
And you still can’t even bring yourself to admit that the post title is a lie? Really? |

I'm ignoring the trial for the reasons I stated, it is a tool that is backed by the government, for it to be adopted it needed to prove a benefit just like the miles per gallon..
The title should have said "warmer".
Now going back to the bad advice and not doing enough..... |

If he asks me I'll probably say drill the north sea so that in a generation or so we can 'insulate' ourselves from the 'shocks' and pitfalls of our reliance on foreign energy..

So you’re ignoring the data produced by the trial rather than attempting to disprove it?
That’s your right, I guess.

Without thinking too hard there could be a clear win in this that doesn't produce an opposite result that causes more energy consumption.
Why not push for commercial product change that would require manufacturers to provide functionality that brings fridges up a couple of degrees during the evening, or a specified time, as long as the fridge remained at a safe temp.
My fridge will go as low 1 and up to 6. If I have this set at 3, there is no reason during the night it couldn't switch to 6, and revert back to 3 at time of choosing.
On a national level wouldn't that be much more significant saving of energy use and money spent on energy? |

Its a good common sense idea, might add a bit more to the product initially but sell that as itll save energy at night in sleep mode..

As long as the manufacturers design data advises this is how the fridge should be used most efficiently then why not. But I think pubs will be replacing a lot of broken fridges.
I wonder if the Government is leading by example turning off the fridges, lowering the room heating temp etc in the civil service hospitality areas, members accommodation.... likewise make them pay for their fuel costs to get to work (not work travel) and see how the react to fuel prices. |

That's the wrong way round. We have plenty of spare energy during the night because most workplaces close, but we're always short of capacity during the day when all the factories are working. A better option would be to let the fridge warm up a bit during the day, when most people are out at work, and then cool down again after office hours. |

It was an on the fly idea, but I have looked into the tech that is available and it exists today but on a commercial footing, beer fridges etc.
So Miliband is pushing a tool to manually manage fridges in commercial premises that might already have the tech to do that today.
Going back to my original point of having tech in all fridges and while we are at it all appliances that draw energy, be more "smart" at a consumer level surely is a no brainer?
