As much as I agree with Starmer’s decision ‘not to get involved’ as Iran only represent a minimalist threat to the UK as things stand, ideally he shouldn’t have allowed US bases in the UK to be used.
I can understand why he allowed them to be used though, given Trump’s petulant application of tariffs. You could easily see Trump ripping up the recent UK/US trade deal also, because well, he’s like that.
So yes, Starmer has probably pushed back as far as he realistically could I think.
But the UK needs to be reevaluating its longer term ties with the US.
What should be happening in a situation where all things were fair is the rest of the globe should be sanctioning the USA & Israel & charging Trump as well as Netanyahu with war crimes.

The US leaving NATO would be good for the US and Europe. The slob Europeans would have to get off the sofa, stop spending money on benefits and “net zero”, and get down the gym and start spending money on defence.

That's a big part of it, but unlike the US Europe hasn't filled the GDP gap with new industries and services in the Tech sector. Its also reduced its energy production while the US has increased theirs. |

Don't need to rain down hell, just mine the straight of Hormuz. Suddenly Iran will have lost their barginning chip. Their oil flows through it as well to their dodgy friends.
I suspect the announcement this afternoon for all shipping in the vicinity to avoid transit through the straight.
This was war has highlighted the soft under belly of the US, no surprise it being their stockmarkets and oil, maybe a change away from petro-dollar would be a good idea for them.
If the US lose this war, then the rest of the democratic world would need to arm up quickly, others would like to chance their luck if they see the US as weak. |
