People need to care.
The notion that a government is going to provide full social care for all who need it is beautiful, but laughable. Families and communities work. Bureaucracy cannot be trusted in this any more than they can be trusted to fill potholes. |

I'm aware of one country where you need to prove no one living in your family has a job in order to get government help when old. Socialism replaces family/community with the state, as you do not need your family, I will look after you , and then it does a terrible job

Culturally, we are not geared up in the Western World to provide multi-generational family care to our loved ones. We can pontificate about why that is and come up with many reasons, but fundamentally, it's not our way.

Once you accept that, unpalatable as it might be, that only leaves 2 other possible routes of social care in your dotage.

1.State-provided or
2.Privately Funded
.
1. Means higher taxes. And the labour force to support it.
2. Means your selling your home to fund it. And having a labour force to provide it.

Them's are the choices.

I'm kind of hoping a 3rd choice emerges before not too long and people can check out on their own terms when they wish, if that is their considered and consenting choice free of coercion or pressure.
