Was on Sky News this morning

Eight prototypes for Donald Trump's controversial wall between the US and Mexico have been installed along the border for testing

Six construction companies bidding for the contract to build the wall have submitted their designs - all of them between 18 and 30 feet high. and also to a depth under to prevent tunnelling

so? will this happen?

Trump has delivered on at least 5 or 6 of his promises so far so every reason to believe he will deliver on the wall too.

I am sure the construction company employees care a hell of a lot, long duration of employment for one.

I wonder what the wage differential will be between the north and south of the border? How long do you think the construction companies will hold out before they start employing non-US citizens to build it?

Trump has already made it clear he plans to tax US citizens to pay for it.

"Is he hoping to keep the Mexicans out,or the yanks in ?"

Neither. He is hoping to keep enough stupid people duped to try and get his abysmal ratings up high enough to think he has a chance of surviving reelection. And to distract from the investigations going on about him.

He doesn't give a shit about mexicans or yanks. Hence why he is happy to employ mexicans on his project as they are cheaper, and happy to outsource his production to other countries as it is cheaper.

People will just sail around the wall, or fly over it and outstay their vacations like any person with more than half a brain cell and wanting to get into a country would do. You know, like all those EU nationals over here that we are meant to despise because they are supposedly using up our services and resources to the detriment of our patriotic blue-passport-waving-we-hate-the-liberal-elites-ooooh-look-a-new-royal-isn't-her-dress-lovely nationals.

Is this good for you if it does?

Who will pay? How much will it cost to build? How much will it cost to man and maintain? How much will it save?

Will the cost of food and other goods increase for Americans as a consequence? By how much? Is that good?

Will the wall be a continuous wall or will there just be a few bits for the publicity?

Its just like honouring a manifesto promise here. Trump intends to deliver on his promises I see nothing wrong with that.

Yes old chum. Especially as you just ably demonstrated the last one

Did you actually read the words that I wrote or did you reboot because house have to consider other options?

We can start with the fact that more Americans voted against Trump than for him. He is the legitimate President, but most Americans, it seems, don't want a wall to be built. Should he take heed of the , vocal, majority or ignore them?

When people do vote for a political party or individual do they support every promise they make or balance some against others?

The questions all lead to analysing what the promise was. He was going to build a walk to keep Mexicans out; “They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

Are they? If not then what will be achieved by keeping his promise if it impoverishes his people more than it benefits them?

If it is an incomplete wall will he have kept his promise?

Is it better to keep a promise that is counterproductive once the actuators and benefits have been worked out or is it better to do it anyway?

No, no, he'd deliver you a lasagne, but tell you he'd delivered you a pizza. Then if you called him out of in he'd yell 'fake news!' and tell you that there is a costal liberal anti-pizza conspiracy that was started by the Lasagne cartels. He'd then spend ages saying Hilary needs investigation because she likes pineapple on her pizza and that is a crime. Despite the fact half his party and most of his family love hawaiian pizzas and were eating them last week. At a fund-raiser by Putin.

All legitimate Americans want a wall built between the US and Mexico. It will not inconvenience anyone who legally wishes to travel across the southern border. I for one don't need Mexico to pay for it, and as one of the few on this forum who pay US taxes, I don't think anyone who needs an airplane or boat to travel to the US should be passionate about it either way. The President is doing right by the American people, and I applaud the fact that despite being demonized for doing right for us, he doesn't buckle or waiver so that his ratings are good with Hollywood! Illegitimate, often criminally motivated non citizens continue to cross into and reside in the US with no respect for the law, or rules that Americans are safely governed by. Those of us who care about the future of our country would like this to end ASAP.

And in the event there is confusion, this wall will have border crossings so that properly documented travelers can come and go with little inconvenience. It seems that the interpretation sometimes is that were talking about an impenetrable border, which it is not.

Of course it is not impenetrable. Aeroplanes fly over it, boats sail around it and people pass through it. It is purely symbolic and hence a total waste of time, money and effort just to say - we white guys are better than you stupid dago’s; so here is a fence to keep you out.

Thank you for helping me clarify. Yes, airplanes and boats will navigate said wall in their own way, and continue to use travel documents and diplomatic clearances to get into the country as they always have. The existing border control points will also continue the process that has worked in the past utilizing internationally recognized travel documents.

The much needed change for us white assholes is that now there will not be hundreds of miles of non controlled crossing points, and we can minimize those who wish to come into the country illegally, and encourage them to travel legally as I'm sure you do.

The much needed change for us white assholes is that now there will not be hundreds of miles of non controlled crossing points, and we can minimize those who wish to come into the country illegally, and encourage them to travel legally as I'm sure you do. "

You know that more than 50% of illegal immigrants in the US are people who overstay their visas right?

So they are all using the "internationally recognized travel documents" you mention.

"All legitimate Americans want a wall built between the US and Mexico.

ALL (like 100%) of my work and business from colleagues from Boca, Miami, New Jersey and Cleveland regard themselves as legitimate Americans and ALL think that “the wall” is a waste of time, money and effort designed only to appeal to knuckle dragging white people who are fighting their last breaths of white entitlement.

The future is bridges and not walls and most sensible, forward thinking people can see through the knee jerk reactions otherwise known as Trump and Brexit.

All the Americans I know are against it too

Well Trump won the Presidency and the wall was probably the most well known policy during his election campaign. It's what Trump supporters voted for in their millions. "

Just checking. Did more US citizens vote for or against Trump.

I'm not questioning his legitimacy as President, just the implication that more Americans support the wall than reject it.

I just asked for a fact check Centaur. Can you find it for us?

And I'm not sure what's "knee jerk" about an election process that covers more than a year, but our country did require a reactive change. I can't speak on Brexit, and frankly don't feel entitled to as it has nothing really to do with me, and I can't affect it.

I said millions of US citizens voted for Trump (and the wall). What do you consider to be false about that statement?

If you're going to start the old 'But Clinton won the popular vote' argument then why do you have such a problem with Brexit winning the popular vote here in the UK?

You can't have it both ways.

All elections have rules and both sides know the rules to begin with.

Remain knew they had to win the popular vote to win the EU referendum - Remain lost the popular vote.

Clinton knew she had to win the Electoral college to win the Presidency - Clinton lost the Electoral college.

It's no good complaining about the rules after the event, it just makes you look like an incredibly bad sore loser.

Could you confirm if more US citizens voted for the building of the wall or against it by dint of their vote for or against Donald Trump?

If more people voted against Trump and therefore the wall are more Americans illegitimate than legitimate?

It's quite confusing

I just googled how long is the US Mexican border...

Its:

3.13983 million miles long...

Guess Trump intends to give the Mexicans a lot of US Real Estate in order to reduce the border to a nice strait 2000 mile wall as I am sure that the Mexicans will not be handing any territory to Trump.

"What are you drinking?

I think Easyuk is drinking sour grapes juice by the sound of it. "

Why doe me asking if more Americans voted against Trump than for him imply that I've been drinking? Are you a child to take that as a line of argument?

Do you know how many million more Americans do not want a wall than do want a wall?

Can you tell us?

Do you and your new American friend know how much it will cost?

Will the Mexicans pay for it?

Will labour costs and food costs rise as a consequence? Will US products start to become uncompetitive as a consequence?

How much will it cost to maintain annually compared to the "cost" of illegal immigration?

Would they make more money by policing the existing law such that it became too expensive and risky for big companies (like the ones Trump owns) to employ them?

Do you think that the balancing of these calculations make slogans rather more complicated in there delivery than their promise?

Is this too complicated? Is your head hurting because it means thinking about lots of different aspects?

Is your continued inability to assess your own cognitive bias still making you angry and stroppy?

Centaur, if you just believe something out of blind faith then say it. It's a position, like religion, which you can take. I would applaud you for it.

However, pretending that there are logical arguments to support your assertions only works if you can back them up with some facts, can respond directly to a few reasonable questions and can accept that there's another opposing viewpoint to yours which is also valid.

A vote for or against something does not make it the right thing to do nor the logical thing to do. It just means that people do or do not want something to happen because of or despite the facts.

We could vote in a government tomorrow that did not believe that vaccination worked because they read an outdated newspaper article once. All vaccinations would stop and plagues would ravage the country. That would be democratic. That would be legal. That would be stupid.

That's why politicians and governments have to assess the easy promises they made before election and if the facts dictate it, change their mind

That's the same as "breaking a promise".

Oh no, a DIFFICULT decision.

Which is braver and more honourable old chap: break a promise and do good or keep a promise and do harm?

Wow. California is the most anti-Trump of all States and the Democrat vote was twice that of the Republican vote last year. It is a FACT that California is overwhelmingly anti-Trump and anti-Trump policies. It is almost statistically impossible for you to have found only supporters of "The Wall" on the West Coast unless you exclusively visited Republican sycophant events and even then it is doubtful you would have found overwhelming support for the Wall. California has a huge Hispanic influence and even amongst Californian Republicans, there is real anxiety about the wall. Geography is a bitch when you want to twist the truth.

I call bullshit on your post and it would not have even taken much research before posting the bullshit that you may have been called out. The political demographics of the west coast are more than well known.

To be fair, Oregon and Washington are also both on the West Coast and have some pretty strong Trump-supporting counties. Despite California being something like a fifth of the entire US GDP, there are some other places on that side.

I don’t doubt it, but the “west coast” is terminology most often used for California. “Pacific coast” would best describe Oregan and Washington - albeit both could equally describe all.

I would have thought that a poster so in love with the United States would have known this - but then again??? Who knows what who knows and who is who in the world of Fabswingers....

What was their demographic? Do you think that it was a representative cross-section of society?

Is it possible that your definition of "the Americans" is limited by where you go and to whom you choose to speak to or chose to speak to you?

OK - So I have looked through the thread and can find nothing of such great hilarity.

The issue here is that you don't know the difference between urban (Metropolitan) votes and rural votes. I don't know the exact breakdown, because I have never checked but there are hugely different voting patterns between rural voters and those who live in the cities. That said, there are always exceptions like the Attorney who I referred to in that thread who I still associate with because he does work for us. He has changed in the last year and although he says that he still could not vote for a Decocratic he thinks that Trump's days are numbered because of his (Trump's) incompetence in appointing nominee's to key judicial positions.

By the way, argumentum ad hominem is the lamest debating tactic known to man and it is generally employed by those unable to engage in a meaningful debate using common reason. At least challenge the message if you want to be taken seriously.

Take a look at voting demographics and in fact Wikipedia is a good source. Type in (State) voting 2016 presidential election.

You will see that in almost every state, urban votes are Democrat and rural votes are Republican. If you want to look at Ohio you will see the three most populous cities are in Counties that voted Democrat and quite significantly so in Cleveland (Cuyahoga County). In the same way, that Republican voices would be in short supply in the city of Cleveland, so would they also be in California.

Hence getting back to the point. It would be almost impossible to speak to only Trump supporters on the west coast when every single coastal county was Democratic. At the very least you would get a mixed result. That said, the Hispanic influence in California is a major factor that has made the wall very, very controversial amongst Californian Republicans.

If you would do a little research, you might find out that you would understand things a little more than you appear to do.

By the way... We (my business partners and I) will benefit massively from Trumps recent tax cuts. This doesn’t mean I am suddenly a Trump supporter and for that matter I never was a Hilary supporter. I thought at the time (and I still do) that Trump will damage America more than he will improve it. Personally I think the US needs a good dose of socialism and Bernie would have been great. But that will never happen.

Building walls is clearly placating retards. How will they keep people out exactly? They don't exactly have a great track record of doing that. People managed to cross the Berlin wall, for example and that was heavily guarded - how will an unmanned wall in the desert stop anybody from doing anything much?

"

I am just back from 4 weeks in USA, the Americans I spoke to on West Coast and the ones I spoke to on vacation in Hawaii all supported the wall

Many were also upset and actually "pissed off" with the amount of countries voting against America moving Embassy to Jerusalem, they were fairly fucked off due to the amount of overseas aid they pay these countries and they hope Trump will stop these payments.

Guess it depends what side of USA you are on and what state you are in

The political demographics of the west coast are more than well known."

I couldn't give a toss what you call bull shit to, you are never off this forum 24/7 so I do wonder when you have time to actually chat to people in usa or even if you actually do travel west of UK

.

The people I spoke to were obviously people in bars as well as waiters and people on the beach at pipe masters

one other thing I did notice was the amount of signs in fields stating "Farmers for Trump", still plenty support, I did not see one sign of opposition.

"All legitimate Americans want a wall built between the US and Mexico.

So, you managed to find the more reactionary people on your trip, and the ones with limited ability to see the consequences of their actions.

You know, they do say that people do tend to gravitate towards those who share similar opinions to themselves, but I'm certain that wasn't the case here.
