Mark Carney is at it again, the Chief Doom-monger has said that the UK economy would crash, unemployment up, Interest rates up, inflation up, house prices crash... blah blah blah, if we have to leave the EU under a "No Deal" scenario.

This from the guy who got it wrong when he claimed that if we voted Leave, the UK economy would tank...why should we listen to him second time around?

They didn't paint pretty pictures in 2016 before the referendum, but as we now know for a fact, their predictions and forecasts turned out to be wrong following the vote to leave.

Surely you can slag off Mark Carney using someone with more credibility than JRM's words.

Any credibility is immediately lost when they use this term. Most sane and intelligent people will evaluate the strength of the considerable evidence and form considered judgements, rather than acting like performing parrots, eager to spout facile soundbite shite.

He is doing his job.

Identifying the risks and assuring people the BoE has a plan to mitigate those risks.

Which is more than the state and many businesses appear to be doing.

I'm no economist, but I even I can foresee the economic shock that would occur if you rip the UK out of all EU treaties, sever every existing legal link and allow all sorts of barriers to re-appear overnight.

His predictions were also based on enacting A50 inidiately after the referendum.

It is clearly the guys job to plan for bad scenarios and he's doing it with models such as this calling.

Project fear is another pointless sound bite akin to fakenews.

Aren’t the scenarios all ones which involve leaving. This treasury analysis is to “help” inform the best way. The BOE is to understand the biggest shock and protect against it. Hope is not a strategy.

Brexiters will never accept anything the government puts forward. They are caught in an echo chamber of their own making. These children can only hear what they want to hear.

They'd drag the country to hell and back and cut off their nose to spite their face to get their way. This is where they are at present. Its a dark place for them.

Maybe the tantrums will stop after brexit I very much doubt it though.

A Parliamentary select committee asked the Bank of England to model scenarios - leaving in an orderly way with an agreement, and leaving in a disorderly way without an agreement.

That is what was published yesterday. It is the work of a team of economists and not one person.

The committee meets next week when the BoE will appear to give evidence. The committee then produces a report with recommendations to Parliament.

On a separate but related subject, the UK Government yesterday published an assessment of the "Future Security Partnership" between the UK and the EU.

The May proposal essentially continues all existing co-operation as is for the transition period.

The report lists all the existing provisions that allow sharing and communication of information and intelligence, and co-operation across themes such as counter-terrorism, illegal immigration, cyber-security, infectious disease and so on

These continue as is under the May proposal.

In a no-deal scenario, the legal framework within which this sits evaporates and the EU and UK default to whatever non-EU, international provision exists.

Even the sharing of personal data in future becomes problematic.

The document is worded in typical civil-service speak, i.e. designed not to alarm. But the implications for national security are clear if Britain chooses to go it alone.

It seems to be a common occurrence of the alt-right - when presented with evidence that challenges their rigid story, dismiss it either as

b) project fear

d) the work of the devil.

Their minds are closed to any reality except that presented by the voice inside their head.

Indeed, we don’t “know”. But we are 99% sure.

If you’re in a car speeding towards a cliff, you might not die, the cars brakes might come on by themselves at random, or a tree might fall in front of the car halting the trajectory. But it’s 99% sure it’s not going to be a good outcome for the person speeding towards the cliff.

There have been no credible accounts of anything positive to come out of Brexit. So I don’t understand why some people ignore all the evidence. It genuinely doesn’t make sense.

It has everything to do with 2008, when the BOE were slow to offer a fresh stimulus to the failing economy through QE. They were heavily criticised for their inaction.

After the referendum, the UK economy took a jolt. Whilst it was bad news, it wasn't as the same scale as 2008. The BOE had two options: do nothing, the precise action that they got castigated before, or offer a relatively small amount of QE. They chose to inject £70bn into the economy.

One of the reasons given for this was to "help negate expected large job losses", the sort of thing predicted by Chancellor George Osborne. In fact, unemployment continued to fall and job creation rose.

Personally, I think the BOE took the right action. How they plan to get all the QE back out of the economy could trouble us all for many years.

"For a post decrying "fake news", the onus really is on you to get your own facts correct. Osborne did not run off. He remained in post until a new leader was appointed and new Cabinet put in place.

Osborne did run off when he resigned as an MP and went to work for the London Evening Standard. So when they said Osborne ran off that statement was factually correct. "

The original posted stated

"

boy george ran off like cameron before he could have his budget

"

Cameron resigned as Prime Minister the day after the referendum 24th June 2016 and quit as an MP 12th September 2016.

Osbourne stayed on as Chancellor of the Exchequer until he was sacked by the new Prime Minister T May on 13th July 2016 and stood down as an MP 3rd May 2017 nearly a year after the referendum.

So no, George Osborne did not "run off" anything remotely like David Cameron did, unless you're rewriting history again

Can I just ask a furious brexiteer a question just for clarification.....

How bad can a forecast or report be for it not to be considered project fear? Or has that label been hijacked to mean anything bad!

Because all the options in the report yesterday left us worse off as a nation

It's the British equivalent of "fake news".

Hordes of dark skinned men massing at the borders of the EU desperate to get to the UK and take our women, jobs, homes and hospital beds.

There are pictures that prove it.

There's even a map with Syria next to Turkey next to Greece.

Yep, even though remainers keep saying the UK will be a basket case after leaving the EU the illegal immigrants still would rather risk their lives crossing the channel in inflatable dingys to get to the uk rather than remain in the EU, lol.

That's very convoluted "logic". A tiny proportion of those who have arrived in Europe are trying to get to the UK in boats. Over 300 have drowned this year alone trying to get to Spain and 30,000 have made it. How many boat loads have tried to get to the UK?

Immigrants will always come here illegally because the good and decent brits are generally a welcoming lot ..Not even that video of our local kiddies water boarding a Syrian kid on a playing field would put them off.

That bullying was nothing new, jeez when I was a kid I had to run the gauntlet a few times before finally fighting back and I was a born and bred white British male.

Things like this have been always there it’s just that we all have cameras now and it gets reported a lot more

Maybe it’s easier to survive under the radar here ? They’re coming here because it’s the best place to be an illegal, not because it’s the best place to be a citizen.

Maybe they have family. Or can’t speak French.

Maybe they are running from something which they haven’t managed to leave behind in Syria. Or have made new enemies.

I really don’t know.

But I imagine their decision is based on something more personal than relative gdp.

(I know some here are looking for bites. However I fear others actually believe the argument and see this as evidence of uk superiority over France)

The sad thing about all of this is that these people are escaping from truly horrible war zones which we have no experience of. I imagine a lot of them have idealised visions of the uk and also speak English and aim for our shores as a result. I am sure they’d try to get to America if they could too. We live in a very safe environment (apart from gang related knife crime) with little danger of being shot, blown up or killed and we don’t have identity cards either so it’s not all that surprising they want to come here is it?

What's your actual point?

You don't like immigrants?

You don't like Muslim immigrants?

You don't like illegal immigrants?

Immigrants come here because it is safer than where they are from?

Immigrants come here because there is more economic opportunity than where they are from?

Immigrants come here because there is more economic opportunity than anywhere else in Europe?

Immigrants come here because it is harder to be deported than from other EU countries?

More immigrants come to the UK than any other European country?

Immigrants don't come to the UK because they have family here?

Immigrants don't come to the UK because they understand English but not another European language?

How does leaving the EU address any of these points?

"Mark Carney is at it again, the Chief Doom-monger has said that the UK economy would crash, unemployment up, Interest rates up, inflation up, house prices crash... blah blah blah, if we have to leave the EU under a "No Deal" scenario.

This from the guy who got it wrong when he claimed that if we voted Leave, the UK economy would tank...why should we listen to him second time around? "

Mark Carney will be gone by 2020.

What's in it for him to lie exactly?
