Jewish groups urge voters to disown Labour in Peterborough by-election

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Jewish groups have come out to condemn the Labour party candidate Lisa Forbes in the upcoming Peterborough by-election. In a joint statement, Marie Van der Zyl, President of the board of Deputies of British Jews, Simon Johnson, chief executive of the Jewish leadership council, and David Delew, chief executive of the Community Security trust, said Labour candidate Lisa Forbes previous anti semitic views expressed on social media sites such as Twitter had brought into question her suitability for public office.

The joint statement from the Jewish organisations went onto read...

"Unless Labour disowns Lisa Forbes as a candidate, it will only confirm the party's shameful descent into the racist mess for which they are now being investigated by the Equality and Human Rights Commission" * (the EHRC had only previously investigated one other organisation in its history, being the BNP).

Following the investigation into the Labour party by the EHCR, Pete Willsman who was a member of the governing body has been suspended by Labour over recorded comments where he said complaints over antisemitism were being whipped up by Israel, and that 68 rabbis, who had written to the Guardian over their concerns had been co-ordinated by the Israeli embassy.

The Peterborough by election is only taking place because the previous Labour MP for Peterborough and convicted criminal, Fiona Onasanya had lied about speeding offences and was found guilty of Perverting the course of Justice in a Court of Law.

If I lived in Peterborough I wouldn't vote for anyone who hasn't got a manifesto or anyone who is a member of a party which refuses to tell voters what they plan to do.

"What is the Brexit Party policy on Israel and Palestine?"

They will do an online poll of their supporters who will shape policy. Its what 5 star did in italy, until they realised that most of their supporters were far right infiltrators with the league and in turn made all their policies anti semtic.

Because by having a sitting MP will help to achieve that policy.

Not rocket science is it?

So their man Greene becomes a UK legislator.

Does your answer mean he will abstain or absent himself on every issue that has no correlation to Brexit?

When a constituent asks him if he can help find an answer to a particular problem, will it be: "Brexit!"

Will he resign when the UK has left the EU?

The fact remains that Labour are an anti Semitic party, and in this instance their candidate has made anti Semitic remarks on social media.

Yet there are many in here who would still vote for her if they lived in her ward...

CANTERBURY

She will lose and the Brexit Party will win because of the current populist tide and the demographic of the electorate. The LibDems will pick up some votes as their position on Brexit is clear.

Also, the bad taste left by the previous freeloading incumbent has crushed the local party on whose mandate that she was elected. (I know she had the whip withdrawn but the taint of her criminality has left bad feelings among the locals).

It's funny how there isn't much in the press/on TV about this......

"

Actually, unlike ChUK, the BREXIT party's lack of manifesto actually did it a lot of favours.

They were clearly able to say that they had one policy and one policy only, which served them well in a European election which most treated as a protest vote over BREXIT (the fact that it was more or less a straight swap in seats, UKIP to BREXIT aside)

In a similar way, the LibDems "bollocks to BREXIT" slogan did very well for them too.

As regrettable as it was, BREXIT was the only issue to matter to a lot of the 30 odd percent of voters who could be arsed to turn out.

From the declared result the difference was only 600 votes . It is hardly a convincing win.

Any party that was only started s few months ago and came close to winning a seat can see their result as a success .

Let's see the result of the election on Thursday and that will be an endorsement of whose opinions count .

I believe Labour won that one convincingly From the declared result the difference was only 600 votes . It is hardly a convincing win.

Any party that was only started s few months ago and came close to winning a seat can see their result as a success . "

In real life you do know there is no also ran seat next to the incumbent in Parliament..

"Jewish groups have come out to condemn the Labour party candidate Lisa Forbes in the upcoming Peterborough by-election.

If you lived in Peterborough who would you vote for on Thursday?

I would vote for anyone but brexit because of you and the piffle you spout Most people would find his posts exceptionally well written and highly informed.

Let's see the result of the election on Thursday and that will be an endorsement of whose opinions count . "

So, whose opinion counts??

"I see it didn't really work then. Forbes elected....what does this tell us about labour supporters not listening to Jewish groups? "

Lisa Forbes is already facing a backlash from within the Labour party. Seems that some Labour MP's are not very happy with Lisa Forbes winning in Peterborough. Labour MP Margaret Hodge has released a statement saying she has "mixed feelings" about the Peterborough result. She went onto say, "Lisa Forbes and the Labour party have a lot to answer for. We must learn lessons and never have a repeat of this. Have formally raised concerns with party leadership".

Labour MP Wes Streeting said after Lisa Forbes by election win that he had "given up any hope that the Labour leadership is serious about tackling anti-Semitism".

Labour MP Jess Philips said, "Lisa Forbes had ignored and endorsed anti-semitic things". She went onto say every new case of anti semitism in Labour chips away at the parties values, and their ability to stand up against hate erodes".

Seems all is not well in the Labour party.

I think you are really struggling here second div. Margaret Hodge is one of the last of the old guard who Corbyn has spent the last few years removing from power within the party and now she is clinging to the one lever she still has and bringing the party into disrepute as a result. Its not that different from whats been going on in the tory party although Corbyn appears to be more in control than any of the current crop of tory candidates are ever likely to be. I guess that could be why you are worried? You know the tories are fucked in any guise unless the feral jackals of the B(N)P manage to win some seats and form a coalition with them (I am sure Boris would agree to that although I am not so sure the 1922 would) which is the only way this could ever happen. Its all gone Pete Tong mate

There is no what-aboutary, here, earlier you responded to a post which mentioned Margaret Hodge, Wes Streeting and Jess Philips, and yet you only responded to Margaret Hodge's comments, and you completely ignored Wes Streeting and Jess Philips comments on the matter.

You have told how you campaigned for ukip and the B(N)P in the past and were proud of it so the flag you fly under is well known as is your penchant for not responding to criticism except with what aboutery. You are a propagandist for a party whose underlying ambitions are to all intents and purposes fascistic in tendency with supporters whose tastes run from conservative to nationalist with a charismatic leader who is only missing a little moustache to make him look like the great leader.
