Neighbour heard a woman screaming, shouting "get off me" and called the police.

How will this go down with the blue rinses?

Not well, I imagine.

Does this incident tell us anything about BoJo that we don’t already know??

Was the lady also allegedly heard shouting “get of me” and asking him to leave, which he refused to do???

Unless he is charged, it won’t make a bit of difference! Unless of course the Tory faithful think it may make a difference at the next GE, that’s all they care about!

Most people would have bettèr things to do with their lives than worry about what happens in someone's private house. I guess that the neighbour knew who the occupants were and if they were concerned would have knocked Boris s door instead of phoning the police. It is simply a member of the public attempting to stir up trouble .

You can guarantee they are not as successfull as Boris Johnson or his partner.

And his first defender raises his head!!

Is Partner abuse ok in the privacy of a private dwelling?? Fake news no doubt?

Of course it will be spun as a ‘domestic’, no more than another blonde buffoons comments attributed to ‘locker room talk’

In the article I read the neighbours did knock on the door first!!

They did knock on his door, and got no response. Good to see you didn't even read the report.

And most people are concerned with someone's private behaviour when that person want to be Prime Minister. That's quite a different standard to be held to than just a random member of the public.

It was someone concerned enough to phone the police, if it was loud enough to have been understood outside then it was of concern..

the person who called the police may not have known who it was, its London and people often don't know who is next door let alone in a flat a couple of properties away or over the road..

Can only assume you would ignore a woman in distress by your attitude toward this..

I see his supporters already down playing this as just a domestic tiff.

Like your wife shouting at you when you spill wine on a sofa.

Sorry, aint buying that at all.

I'm sure we have all heard domestic rows of the neighbours.

You would not call the police.

For someone to call the police, they must have been genuinely worried about the wellbeing of someone.

Blood-curdling. That's the kind of sound that would get you on the blower to plod.

He spilt red wine on the sofa and didn't give a shit. She was on his laptop and he was worried she'd find his folder labelled 'Boris Bike Porn'. They had an argument.

If the lady who was with Johnson had called the police then there is an incident to investigate. Unfortunately, the neighbour, having recorded the argument (gave one copy to the police and sold one to The Guardian), was the person who called the police and when they attended, everyone was fine. Just an argument.

There is enough shit to stick on Boris Johnson and I'm sure he'll shoot himself in the foot in the coming weeks but this story isn't it.

Something that could really derail him is surely just around the corner.

Apparently the person who phoned the police has told reporters that they heard the woman saying things like "You're just a spoilt rich kid who has no concern for anyone or anything but yourself". We can all judge for ourselves whether we agree with those statements but, while I accept the person who made the call may rightly have considered it their civic duty to do so if they believed someone was in possible danger of domestic abuse, I fail to understand how they could possibility feel it was right and proper to report a private conversation they had overheard to the public media. The police have said there was nothing to concern them, that should be the end of the matter.

Have to say i really do find the faux outrage on display from leftists and certain parts of the news media with a clear agenda against Boris very amusing.

That they think this story is newsworthy is laughable and shows how utterly desperate they are. Literally thousands of couples will have had arguments last night in the privacy of their own homes all over the country, it happens every single day of the week, and no doubt Jeremy Hunt will have had private arguments with his wife behind closed doors in the past as well.

As for the usual suspects on here jumping to (wrong) conclusions, maybe listen to the conclusion the police gave after they visited the property and spoke to the occupants, the police said they were satisfied everyone in the property was safe and well, no one was arrested for any offence and the police left satisfied it was a normal run of the mill domestic disagreement between a couple behind closed doors. That should be the end of the matter.

I agree, we not only have I right to scrutinise him, we have a duty; a duty which many in the Conservative Party are not taking seriously enough. However scrutinising someone is not the same thing as slurring someone. He had a row with his partner, it seems no one was abused either physically or mentality. What's the story? Trying to make out that Johnson is a partner abuser just isn't going to fly and, in the meantime we're not pointing out the serious flaws in the real policy positions he is standing for selection as PM on.

Yes, if you are concerned enough to call the police about something, i think most people in the period before the police arrive would use it to gather evidence of what they had just reported. A phone is an easy choice.

At 10pm on 21/6/2019 the odds were Johnson 1/12 , Hunt 9/1 ,, , then the news broke about the row , this morning it has moved to Johnson 1/6 , Hunt 5/1 .. Which is quite a substantial move and I am sure this will have been noted by Team Johnson . . Obviously Johnson is still a very clear favourite and it's not an opinion poll but will be a concern for Johnsons campaign , their main plan , to date , is to keep their man away from public scrutiny avoid tv and radio debates as far as possible and stay at home ( because nothing can go wrong there can it ?? )

If your objective was to make money from a recording, you would not go to the Guardian.

The red-tops pay the money for this kinda shit.

Any journalist who thinks they are ahead of the pack with this story will be door-stepping the neighbours, looking for eye-witness accounts.

It won't be long before they find someone with the evidence. Journalists can be very good at persuading people to part with their story - it's what they do.

I originally said 'sold' to The Guardian but retracted it and changed it to 'given' before the accusation (which should have been directed towards me) of getting facts wrong.

Possibly the answer to this would be to read the entire thread before accusing someone of getting their facts wrong.

For the record, my defending of Johnson in this situation (and my defence of him being misquoted in another thread) has nothing to do with a political leaning one way or another, I look at the facts from a legal point of view because that is my background.

I disagree that this debate is getting overheated but you simply cannot say that one member or another of this site are backing Johnson over this because of their political views. At this moment in time, there is no evidence of breaking the law and no complaint has been made.

However, Mr. Johnson and Ms. Symonds could file a complaint against the neighbour for releasing the recording to a third party which should have been done only with the consent of the people on the recording.

"Have to say i really do find the faux outrage on display from leftists and certain parts of the news media with a clear agenda against Boris very amusing.

That should be the end of the matter.

i thinks it brings up another interesting (and sideways) convversation... In the yr to Mar 18, an est 2.0 million adults experienced domestic abuse (1.3m women, 0.7m men).

But if you hear your neighbour being beaten, stabbed or shot please don't called the police.... or do they need to check my political persuasion first and then decide....

i am glad that in this situation the police deem things were okay....

... but lets play devils advocate... imagine if something had happened loud enough for neighbours to hear, but not one had called the police! at this point in time we would absolutely be slaughter the neighbours for not saying something!

the only issue i maybe have is the taping... but i can see why they did it because if there was an issue the police could have used it as potential evidence

so the only question i ask is "is there a public interest slant to publishing it?" if he is likely to be the next PM i would say "abso-fucking-lutely"Funny that you were against mark field intervening but now in favour of it would this be political bias by any chance?just asking."

nope..... because if you had asked me if I replaced "boris johnson" for any other political figure (hunt/corbyn/sturgeon) would i be saying anything different... the answer would be no!

the mark field situation of me was that there were 39 other protesters there... and 39 others were peacefully escorted out in a civil manner... the only one who was not escorted out in a civil manner was the one assaulted by mark fields

so for you to say one might have been the "terrorist" when the other 39 were clearly no threat is stretching it a bit.....

Thanks for that post Zildjian

So what you are saying is Fabio's claim earlier in the thread that only Costa and Pat had made false statements was in fact wrong then.

I wonder if Fabio will now have the decency to apologise and withdraw what he said earlier?

I am saying the word 'sold' was retracted before the accusation of getting facts wrong for using the word 'sold' was implied.

An apology from Costa was unnecessary and therefore I apologise to Costa.

I am not going to suggest what others should or shouldn't do. It's up to them but their words on here are important, given how judgemental this forum can be.

Thank you for not 'calling me out' (quite rightly, by the way) but your explanation is not quite how it happened. As much as I think this apology issue is detracting from the thread, the sequence of events should be looked at. It's only a scroll up away.

I used the word 'sold'.

Costa replied to my post.

I retracted the word 'sold' having read Costa's reply.

Fabio, you then quoted Costa's reply despite knowing that Costa's use of the world 'sold' was used purely in a response to the erroneous use of the word 'sold' in my post, unless you 'called out' Costa without having first read my retraction.

However, it is possible that you weren't trying to mislead anyone and was a genuine mistake...

"Neighbour heard a woman screaming, shouting "get off me" and called the police.

How will this go down with the blue rinses?

Not well, I imagine.

They did knock on the door and only when noone answered did they call the police. Isnt that what any normal neighbour would do?

Was it right that the police were called when a person was concerned for the safety of another? Yes.

Is it right that there is speculation over what was happening inside the house? It's inevitable, but completely invalid. Nobody apart from the two people themselves know. You would hope the police were thorough though, they wouldn't want to mess up such a high profile complaint.

Should Boris be judged on this incident? I don't think so, it is not at all clear what happened and the police are satisfied that there was no ongoing danger or crime committed.

I cannot stand Boris, I think we are more doomed than we already are if he gains office, but let's stay civil and fair. There is plenty more, on record, that, in my view, should disqualify him from office.

Of course, if it transpires that there was evidence of domestic abuse, then everything changes.

Good heavens above a politician has a domestic, police were called, nothing to follow up.

I wonder how many politicians have a domestic argument. Probably everyone who has a partner at some point.

Love him or loathe him, is there really anything to see here. No not really.

I guess a few wet themselves with anticipated glee though as they sharpened the knives and their tongues to absolutely annihilate the character.

Perhaps theres a few more 'wrong uns' in Westminster that could warrant a bit of vitriol on either side of the political spectrum!

i'm just surprise how many people put someones politics above any potential case of domestic violence...

its actually very sad and quite telling....

if the name of the person was "A.N.Other" rather than "boris johnson".... I don't think is any talking point.....

i'd aplaude any neighbour who did that to check up on another neighbour in that circumstance.... the police certainly didn't think it was a waste of time because they a) went out to check... and b) rang them back to let them know everything was okay and thank them for calling

so next time you all see a domestic violence case on TV... just remember that!

I've no criticism of them reporting what might have been a case of abuse to the police. I do criticize them for sending a copy of a private conversation however heated to the guardian. That hardly seems to be in the interests of the person they thought might have been being abused and seems far more likely to being politically motivated in my opinion.

You know I'm not a fan of Johnson so I'm only saying this not because I want to protect him but because I think what they did in sending a copy to the media was wrong.

A truly disgusting thing to say..

If someone suspects domestic abuse then they should do something and whilst in this case according to the police all were safe it's not often that that is the outcome..

2 women every week are murdered by men, perhaps if people phoned the police more often then those figures might come down..

Let the police who are more experienced than people on here use their professional judgement and any serving copper will tell you they would rather an incident be called in than to have it ignored with the potential fatal consequences they sadly too regularly have to deal with..

I agree with you.... the only thing i would question is "is it in the public interest to publish an account of what happened!"

I would say that because he is likely to be the next PM i would say yes, or if an action goes against something they have said and done, like for example someone being anti drugs, only to the caught taking a line of cocaine for example... but that is the conversation we should be having and discussing....

not criticising the actual act of them calling the police in the first place which a lot of the posts here have done! remember the neighbour did try and go round first and check before they then called the police

There are a couple of thing unnerving about this whole sorry saga,

Firstly, for all those saying that the neighbours ( three sets) shouldn’t have called the police, what would you do if you heard a lady in the flat next to you screaming to a man to “get off me” amidst the sound of breaking glass and obvious commotion, would you just ignore it, it certainly sounds like domestic abuse to me and I wouldn’t ignore it, but then I would be concerned about my neighbours wellbeing!

Secondly, the police never charged anyone and said there was no issue there, how many times do police go to spousal abuse calls where the abused denies any wrongdoing and the hands of the police are tied, and despite whatever evidence is there, they have to accept the word of the abused!

Thirdly, don’t shoot the messenger, none is disputing his version of events, he wasn’t shouting at anyone, he wasn’t being told to ‘get off me’, he only told the truth

Fourthly, he recorded what he heard in his own private dwelling, what was happening in a neighboring dwelling, what if there was an injury or charges were to follow, he had invaluable evidence!

Fifthly, BOJO is no ordinary neighbour, he is the soon to be PM, he is not your normal chav, he is an upper crust chav, and the public have a right to know what kind of gurrier will soon be in no10!

Sixthly, even if this was a minor domestic, to the outside world, listening in, it didn’t appear like that, if this was ignored, and allowed to continue it could, possibly, as it usually does, escalate over time and possibly into years into a major abusive relationship!

Finally, we all know he is no saint, why is he been treated like one

Firstly, they were arguing, not screaming. Certainly not blood-curdling screams as was mentioned earlier in this thread.

Secondly, many times I'm sure. However, you cannot connect the number of times police cannot take action in suspected domestic violence cases with this report. Any connection is unfounded.

Thirdly, there was shouting and discussion. An argument. The police and members of the press have listened to the recorded evidence and the only mention of abuse has been in this thread.

Fourthly, yes the neighbour made a recording of valuable evidence to support the notion that no crime had taken place. However, although recording a next door neighbour is legal, giving the recording to a third party is not. At least not without the neighbour's consent.

Fifthly, Boris Johnson has the right to have a private discussion remain private and it not be recorded and given to the media. As we all do. This matter is in the public domain because the police were called. Which is fine. What isn't fine is people being unable to move on from the fact that there simply isn't a story of wrongdoing here. The police spoke to both parties in the dwelling and listened to the recorded evidence. Nothing to report. It doesn't matter who the parties are or what their ambitions are, there's nothing to report.

Sixthly, the outside world aren't listening in. The neighbour did, the police did and members of the press have listened to the recording. Still nothing to report.

Finally, regardless of whether you believe he is being treated like a saint or not, he is being treated the way that anyone in his position should be. At the moment he has no case to answer. This may change but at the moment anything other than leaving the matter be is purely speculation. The authorities have acted upon information given and reported that everyone was fine and no crime was committed.

I don't particularly like Boris Johnson but the bile directed at him over a private conversation-cum-argument that was reported to the police is absolutely ridiculous.

You still haven't told us how you know plates were smashed.

"It's a bit weird that on one hand the tory Mp Field is applauded for not standing by and doing nothing and yet the neighbours in this case who heard the row, tried to help in what they thought was a domestic then had to phone the police are criticised for not standing by?

"

I made the exact point but from the opposite angle seems political bias plays a lot on how people perceive things.

Hi. A very interesting post and a point that I often wondered about. May be if there was a charge for reporting issues such as this to the police and you were refunded if there was a successfull proscution people might be less like to waste police time .

In my experience a lot of people who report things to the police have little else better to do with their lives .

When it comes to leadership - any leadership - I look for qualities like integrity, vision, honesty and so on.

Johnson has none.

He is a complete dickhead.

The perception of Britain as a country that has lost its way in the world will be complete if he takes the office of Prime Minister.

He is a walking calamity zone.

Newest polls show a clear drop in popularity. Anyhow although I'm no fan of Boris at all, to make him out as a domestic abuser based on what neighbours overheard and their interpretation of it, is unfounded and ridiculous.

To me it sounds like they both had a good amount of drinks, she overreacted when he did or said something wrong, once in rage she completely flipped, he tried to calm her down but achieved the exact opposite.

Was the neighbour right to call the police? Yes I think so.

Unfortunately it has turned into a media gossip feast.

However giving the recordings to a newspaper and then asking for their privacy to be protected and boasting about giving ol BoJo the finger. Tells you all you need to know about them frankly.

Not to mention. A potentially vulnerable domestic abuse victim now has any complaints she’s made prejudiced by the potential evidence being given to a national newspaper. Because her neighbours decided to use the opportunity as political ammo.

I wonder where the choice bits of the alleged transcript came from. I bet it wasn’t the police.

This is a political motivated stunt, end of.

Who phones the police anonymously,

Then phones 'the guardian' giving some nice bits of juicy domestic row, possible a grainy recording!

Shit posts the street with posters and had previous for some dodgy political texts and giving someone the finger. Now they are bleating on about respecting their privacy!

Yep it's politically motivated,

Hi I assume that this is an internet warrior comment.

Judging by the amount of time that you spend logged on and posting on here , I would guess that you may have become out of touch with reality on a variety of issues .

I have a large number of files in my house to back up my opinions.

There is a cost to every time someone reports an issue to the police.

In the case In question it can hardly be considered to be a valid complaint if it ended up in the national press .

It is an interesting comment to state that you consider someone stupid because their opinion differs to yours .

.I have never had much time for internet warriors , I prefer to seek advice from real people in real life.

Maybe some posters need to assess why they are spending so much time logged on here..

They certainly will, and the neighbours who went running to the Guardian with a recording will now come under close scrutiny as happened to the Liar and Fraudster called Marcus Ball who tried to bring an erroneous court case against Boris, which was subsequently thrown out by judges, as the judges ruled it was politically motivated.

You'd think the lefty Guardian reading remainer neighbours living next door to Boris and Carrie would have learned something from that, but they're either too dumb to work it out, or are so blinded by hate towards Boris they'll go to any lengths to attack him and damage his prospects of becoming Prime minister.

Doesn't seem to have worked though as the Tory party membership greeted Boris with great warmth and enthusiasm at yesterdays hustings in Birmingham, and Boris is still way ahead of Jeremy Hunt in a poll of Conservative party members.

The woman who lives next door to Boris called Eve Leigh has already deleted her twitter account (but not before details emerged she had posted on her twitter feed that she had given the middle finger to Boris). She is also a remainer, and works as a playwright, and in January had written a play for Pro-EU event called Brexit Stage Left - a '_estival of staged readings of provocative cutting edge plays from across the EU'. Of course this anti Brexit event was also subsidised by EU money.

Genuine concern for a neighbour or a deliberate politically motivated attack against Boris? All the evidence suggest this is nothing more than a deliberate politically motivated attack, and the neighbours have now been exposed!

I didn't think he had the qualities required to lead the county before this, I still don't now. This tittle tattle story has made no difference to that what so ever.

What we should be talking about is his lack of either truth or understanding of his brief. For example the GATT (WTO) article 24 claim he made the other day on BBC. It's not possible to use article 24 if we leave the EU without a deal. Did Johnson know this when he claimed we could, in which case he lied, or did he not realise that article 24 was not an option, in which case he hasn't researched the matter properly and is not across his brief. These are Johnson's real weaknesses that we should be pointing out, the real reason why he's totally unfit to be PM, not whether he had an argument with his girlfriend or not.

I would agree with that but it seems that the domestic that led to the concerns of the neighbours to see what was going on and getting no response to then call the police is being diverted from because of the latter..

Sign of the times that such things become politicised when the real domestic abuse issue is sadly an all too common reality for mainly women in society across all demographics and regardless of political affiliations or status..

Laughable

It really doesn't matter what dirt you or other right wing bozos thing you've dug up on the neighbours.

They didn't make Boris have a steaming row, to the extent his girlfriend screamed 'get off me', did they?

So the phrase 'nothing more than a deliberate politically motivated attack' is pure nonsense. Boris fucked up and got caught out. That's only going to happen more and more if he is PM. Personally I'm looking forward to watching him lead the Tories into oblivion.

Was it right to call the police. If you were worried for eithers safety absolutely.

Shkidk you record it? Makes sense.

Should you go to the papers. Personally not if there's no case to answer. But this is gonna happen now.

The scary bit for him is its day one of the head to head. So either that's bad luck. Or such media fodder happens frequently. It's gonna be a long few weeks.

Hopefully it may even work in favour of Boris . No one like a busy body neighbours who go running to the press.

Anyone with good judgement should be able to distinguish between a trivial argument and something more serious.

I was involved in one case where someone went running to the press and attempted to sell their story to the highest bidder.

They subsequently had to admit committing perjury.I had access to the phone bill and was able to match all the calls to the newspaper concerned.

The police then had to top off their second witness in order that he did not also commit perjury.

Anyone who wants to share in Britain's success will be backing Boris.

I certainly do not like the person that I know him to be and this recent episode hasn't enhanced him positively.

It's not just about this one incident, he has form for being highly unpleasant and inappropriate to hold public office, as much as some may want to just refer to this as a domestic, where a number of neighbours were highly concerned for someone's safety and public services, the police, had to be engaged to investigate, as the perceived potential criminal did not have the decency to communicate with neighbours who attempted the socially responsible act of visiting, to check if everything was alright.

This particular specimen is also very inadequate, from assessment of his political performance. Any reasonable person would of course understand such concern.

Speaking in the Commons on a point of order, the Labour MP Jess Phillips, who ran refuges for the Women’s Aid Federation before entering parliament, said she was “shocked and appalled” this weekend to hear MPs suggesting that incidents like this were just private family matters. She went on:

"I’m certain that in almost any circumstance people in this house don’t believe that that is the case. However, I guess they had their priorities elsewhere when they went out to say it. What that has led to is that all the women’s charities in this country have today had to issue a statement to assert that of course people should call the police, of course people should gather evidence where they can, and of course people should try and intervene. Because the message that came from this house ... was people should not try to help. Please, Mr Speaker, will you assert that domestic abuse is never just a domestic, it is never a personal family matter."

Fabio you don't know exactly what happened that evening do you, for all you know she could have been the aggressor, the police have said there was no crime that would be enough for most people but not for you. Please don't say woman can't be the aggressor either, I have witnessed a friend's violent female partner who would think nothing of hitting him with the nearest thing to hand or trying to rip his face off while driving the car. It's not all black and white!

your right... its not all black and white... and it is not just men on women

what we do know is that the arguement was loud enough that 3 different set of neighbours heard it plus a random passer by outside the home.....

we know the neighbour was concerned enough to go around and knock on the door to see if everything was okay....

we know there was no answer to which at that point the neighbours called the police....

i am never going to criticise anyone for doing that regardless of who does it....

the rest is the bit that you can discuss the merits of.... but i think calling anyone busybodies and discouraging people from doing that is a potentially very dangerous thing to do!

i'd rather police go around and make sure everything is okay... that someone not make that call for fear of being ridiculed and twiddling their thumbs and the police miss the case to where something awful happens.......

I would also point out this was not domestic abuse, it was a bloody argument that neighbours with an agenda decided to try and use as a tool for their own means. Only those with complete blinkered vision can't see that.

Not one single person on here would condone domestic abuse. End of story and thread.

It's not no, but the fundamental facts are that people were concerned enough to try and find out what was going on..

More than just the person who gave the recording to the guardian..

And the police were called..

Exactly no one has a problem with the police going round or concerned neighbours calling them, it's all the rest like giving the recording to the press and it all being blown out of all proportion to what actually happened.

One neighbour recorded it, others also heard the row..

See I'm not so sure about your last claim, sadly there are some who are as not in agreement with you, I and the majority of people..

The divisions of the past 3 or so years has twisted some peoples thinking on the very basic wrongs and rights that should be universally condemned..

Apart from the poster who said the neighbour who called the police should be prosecuted for wasting police time and the other who said there should be a penalty charge for callers who call the police for such issues and there is no prosecution..

I probably would have called the police and I have no issue with that it's the fact that the police said there was no need for any action but others are making it out to be more.I read your post on another thread which contained the accounts of the other neighbours, one of them said " the woman sounded angry" he didn't say she sounded frightened! Which is quite telling don't you think?

There’s nothing wrong with calling the police at all it’s the tape recording sent to the papers that was out of order

The media will have a field day with this and other aspects as basically Boris has bugged up his character in his attempt to win the hot seat..

He has put himself in the spotlight from his fellow journalists which given his time in that job he must have known would happen..

Begs the question what is he up to..

That'll include the intimate pic of the couple looking luvvy divvy in a garden, set up by the Johnson team and given to the media to move the story on.

I am so disappointed with that..

At least they could have photoshopped a couple of pure white doves and maybe a lovely little harp playing angel in the oh so not natural picture..

Does sort of look like his team are trying to move away from his personal life by err..

Showing pictures of his personal life..

Doh..

" All the evidence suggest this is nothing more than a deliberate politically motivated attack, and the neighbours have now been exposed!

They don't need Johnson to do that, they can manage perfectly well on their own. When the party of Business says fuck business we'd rather have BREXIT; when the party of Union says fuck the UK we'd rather have BREXIT; when the party of economic pragmatism says fuck the economy we'd rather have BREXIT; when the party of the most successful election winning machine in history says fuck the party we'd rather have BREXIT: The writing is not just on the wall the end is pretty much high. Selecting Johnson as their leader is not the final cause of their demise, it's the ultimate symptom of it.

The point is is that people are critical of them calling the police and using that as an argument to say these neighbors were buzzy bodies. That is an extremely dangerous message to send out and that is the message that Jess Philips is trying to rightly counter. What the neighbors did after that, as Fabio says, is much more debatable and quite rightly open to question as to what their real motives were.

The longer he is quiet on his policies then the media will default back to 'OK Boris, let's explore this character of yours which your trying to convince tory voters is what the country needs now'..

Looks like an episode of self harm..

This is the oppinion of the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police:

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/boris-johnson-domestic-neighbours-police-disturbance-cressida-dick-a8973586.html

“I think it is important that people call the police when they’re worried about somebody.”

Questioned over the legality of recordings, Ms Dick declined to comment on whether they should have been given to journalists but added: “It can be helpful for us if there is evidence of a crime that we are going to be investigating if somebody has made a recording.”

Good enough? Probably not

Odd isn’t it that he he won’t discuss issues that would involve his “loved ones” but see’s no issue in releasing a picture of a “loved one” taken many months ago in an attempt to deflect from the accusations of the row he had with said “loved one”

I have a family member who lives next to a woman who suffers domestic abuse.

The police advised her to keep a diary of what she hears through the walls and make recordings on her phone.

He has an expensive team assembled.

Their research, their polling, will tell them Tory voters are not keen on someone in an unstable or volatile relationship.

The quick fix is to release an image showing the opposite - a picture of commitment and stability.

Don't be surprised if you read stories from "sources close to the couple" speculating about an engagement, especially in the press read by Tory members.

All to create an impression of "strong and stable".
