Guising V Trick or Treating

Being auld I tend to dislike the adoption of the American notion of "trick or treating", far preferring the notion that you earn your treat by telling a joke or singing a song as in guising. I also dislike Candy rather than swagers but must admit that the pumpkin is not only prettier it's way easier to make a lantern out of than a tumshie!

Edinburgh

I once put a sign up saying "Guisers welcome, Trick or Treaters go away"

Got less knocks than normal that year.

2019 was the biggest disappointment though, as we ordered in healthier snacks like dried fruit and such. When I went out the next day I found loads of the packs unopened on the ground near my house. Ungrateful little sh1ts lol

Naebody under 22 wants a healthy snack ffs!!!

"Trick or low sugar, low salt, healthy nibble" has no ring about it either.

The front of my house is all decorated, sweets bought, and can't wait to see all the wee ones in their costumes!

I miss the days when a costume was a bin bag, your mams make up and some of those awful plastic witches fingers!

Hate that adult female costumes are always pre-fixed with "sexy"...I don't want to be a sexy nurse, sexy witch or sexy nun!

Love dooking for apples and raiding the kids sweet stash. Love scary movies and all these haunted walk throughs/houses.

One of the best bits about having young kids at Halloween is that you can annoy the fuck out of the neighbours. The parents of those now adult kids who used to rattle on your doors like it was a fucking CID raid.

Payback muthafuckas! (pumpkin)

Kelso

I'm definitely old fashioned as I prefer guising to trick or treat. Bagie (turnip) lanterns as we called them here, rather than pumpkin lanterns.

However, I do have some input on trick or treat. I get pickled onions, coat them in chocolate and then mix them in with ordinary sweets. Just a bit of fun xx
