From my experience you turn up, bit of social pleasantries and having a blether. This allows each to find out more about the other and then if there’s chemistry you can head off for fun to another part of the club.
A few variations as depends on what time you turn up, if you know people already going or are there you might be able to just go to the play areas.

After dark in Edinburgh is a bit like going to a social club, there's a bar, pool table, seating and TV's playing music.
Meet someone there or ask to join a table and see where it takes you. Many prefer to sit on there own waiting for things to come to them.

Can depend on the club, but generally it’s chatting, wandering around, catching folks eye, more chatting, being asked to join in a room or asking to join in.
Just be friendly, confident, and not weird. Remember, everyone is there for the same reason.
