Anyone else struggling to get back into a gym routine?
I injured my shoulder earlier this year-March. Haven't set foot in the gym since then.
Shoulder is fine but mentally its a struggle trying to get into the gym...keep putting it off
Anyone else the same? Or any tips on how to get back into a good routine?? |

I'm currently taking a week off for just general fatigue and other things.
As for advice I'd just say take it easy at first. Don't go all in straight away. Maybe start of with a full body routine focusing on compound exercises 2 or 3 times a week and build up from there. Just pick a weight that feels semi challenging and add up as you go. If your worried about your shoulder might be an idea to stick to a machine if your doing shoulder press or something like that. |

I damaged my back two years ago, although I returned to the gym before I should have ( I was losing my mind), I took up yoga and Pilates, thinking I’d go easy…., two years later I’m still scared it will happen again but I’m still doing the yoga and the Pilates and I’ve returned to the kickboxing ( although I’m not allowed in the ring anymore) . I would suggest you speak to someone in your gym about your concerns, they will surely help even if it’s to ensure that you’re doing the relevant exercises correctly so preventing injuries. |

Yeah it’s pretty normal to feel that way even without the injury.
A partner can help as it will maybe help stay motivated.
I regularly struggle for motivation and will take a week off randomly. I found the best motivation is to book a holiday. |

Thanks for the responses.
It's a complete pain in the arse, last week I even put my gym gear on so no excuses.....then when it was time, convinced myself the place would be busy so would be better if I go another time....poor attitude i know. |

Have had a foot injury since last November, and two close bereavements, so have struggled to get back into it.
I've changed my mindset to take it easy, and not try to beat times etc, and to do different things than before. It's all about burning calories and building muscle, not about kudos on Strava!
Went out on the bike today too instead of gym to give my foot a rest from running.
And not to sound too pervy...some of the female gym goers can be good motivation sometimes too! 😉💪 |

In reverse, totally agree...I did have gym crush but at 42 and I suspect she was in her 30s...the last thing a woman wants is a guy trying to chat her up in the gym...
I need to burn fat, so not focusing on personal tests.
Guess I just need to reach down, grab a pair and get out the door |

"I had shoulder surgery late last year and struggled to get back into going. I got a PT and now I wouldn't be without her, I see her 2x a week and also go myself - Mrs
Amazing, go you!!"
Thank you! I finished work at 10 this morning was there by half past and spent an hour on the elliptical lol. Just wish I'd remembered my stuff for the sauna! |

Make a start from wherever you're at now and don't get hung up on what you could do previously. I find that routines build habits so being consistent with days and times for a week or two has me back into the addiction haha! Good luck. |

In the west. |
I have hardly been in the last few weeks as I was on holiday. I went on Monday but to make sure I went I packed my bag and sat it at the front door, on Sunday night, that way I couldn’t go out without it.
I never go at it hammer and tongs for the first few sessions that way I’m not sore and exhausted as I’d then look for any excuse not to go. |
