Now with the online safety act officially coming into play, how many of you would be happy to upload your ID in order to keep using this site? Most sites have already been cracked down on, it’s only a matter of time… with that being said.. can anyone recommend a decent VPN😂?

You don't have to give your id. The site has already provided options to age assure. 🤷‍♀️🙄

So much panicking about this, you need it for explicit porn sites, and most will take a scan of your face along with an email address- don't panic Mr Mannering! (On second thoughts I could spread panic and invest some shares in print pornography and dvd players! Lol)

Kid now more about tech than they do about sex, if anyone wants to view adult sites regardless of age they use a VPN

"Who is giving their kids phones and what happened to parental control and responsibility?"

Did you never get hold of porn mags when you were a kid? This is just the modern equivalent.

Can you trust those websites not to use your ID nefariously or not get hacked.

You have nothing to hide?

Hmmm interesting argument. There is nothing in English law stopping somebody registering their car at your address and running up speeding and carparking fines, later on sending in the bailiffs.

ID theft can happen passively, choosing a car plate at random and knocking up fake plates is rife. You can't legally hide your car's reg plates when driving.

The DVLA is pretty useless at getting this stopped.

In order to do deal with this, their mail has to be intercepted, ie opened without their consent, in order to contact the said courts, bailiffs and other legal entities.

Yes, I am speaking from experience.

In the bushes.

If the government wanted to protect kids, Sadiq Khan would get confused when asking what a groom gang is.

SYP would stop Jimmy Saville in his tracks years ago and Special Branch would stop him entering Buck Pal.

This is bigger than that, kids are sexting each other, thereby becoming publishers of their own material.

I was referring to your point on parental responsibility, not ID theft or the Mayor of London...

I get your point.

The gov is not looking in the direction we wanted it to. Setting up this firewall was a cheap fix.

It's a fantastic aspiration but a pointless exercise.

A free download of a VPN such as Proton VPN negates the intent of the act. He also said that his friend simply used his grandparent's credit card.

My mate's son showed me how easy it was and took 20 seconds to download a VPN for free on my phone.

The idea of age verification in this format was probably considered by a think-tank of people with no idea of the real capabilityof technology.

Sadly, while I cannot however think of a real solution to protect our kids, this clearly isn't it.

I'm with you on this. A noble cause poorly implemented. Its the unintended consequences of poorly thought out legislation thats going to cause more harm than it prevents.

I believe we will see a rise in identity theft as a direct consequence of this legislation and with the ability to bypass age verification simply by downloading a VPN, often an unvetted untrustable free VPN the legislation is not fit for purpose.
