Sunday 26th May

CJs first bank holiday Sunday session

This will be a social only for the introductory Sunday session, the playrooms will be closed(however tour may be available on request).

As usual there will be music playing in both the large social rooms and were hoping to see plenty of you up on the danceflooor, hopefully we might get a few volunteers to show us their skills on the pole !! And if we’re really lucky we might even get a wee bit of karaoke on the go

BYOB but usual soft drinks/tea/coffee and light buffet will be available

Looking to get a few wee party games organised in the kitchen as ice breakers

ie cards against humanity.

This will be a great opportunity to meet new people on the scene and catch up with old friends. For newbies here’s the perfect opportunity to get to know some of the regulars on the scene and it will also be great for those who are curious about the venue and want to have a wee nosey without feeling the pressure of the regular play nights.

Attire is casual, wear what you feel most comfortable in. As with any fab events discretion and respect at all times xx

£15 entry to be paid in advance

PM myself or _ubbly2012 for PayPal details

4pm -11pm

Location details for those of you who haven’t been before will be sent out the day before. On this occasion ID is not required to gain entry but should you wish to become a member just being along some photo ID and a valid email address to get you added to the system

Cancellations up to 48hours before £5deposit will be retained otherwise full payment retained.

"Do you work for cjs?"

No just a regular but cj has agreed to let us use the venue because we’re regulars, bubbly can’t always make the Saturday nights because of her job/family commitments as do a lot of our fab friends, and we got chatting saying bank holidays are great for getting together and because of where we all stay Glasgow a central meeting point for us.

Seem to be more answers on this, we are hoping to go on the 25th for our first time with another couple we have made friends with but R has lost his ID and can't get a replacement in time, is there anything else he can take to get in?

Because we still have to hire the venue from cj and buy the buffet, the same as all the other socials only bringing your own bottle is cheaper than paying bar prices, and if it was in a bar you don’t get free tea coffee and soft drinks

If you’re not interested there’s no need to comment, have a look at the other socials and see how much they cost and you’ll find it’s on par and they don’t include unlimited alcohol free drinks and they also mean you have to be discrete and worry that you don’t say something in front of the bar staff . Feel free to go troll other posts

I think is a great idea. £15 is a small price to pay for an afternoon out in Glasgow and has the added bonus of meeting up with like minded people.

Em cj isn’t giving us the venue for free ! If you go to a pub then how much will you be spending in the bar ? And not every bar gives you function rooms for free ? In fact in Glasgow I don’t know of any ? And once the venue is paid for any monies that might be made we can ask folk if they want it to go to charity, refunded or put towards the next one. But like I’ve said feel free to troll on elsewhere !

Just for example..the summer social is £7 a head?

I'm not going to any as I stopped as they started to creep up in price and didn't really offer anything I was looking for but just seems a tad pricey?

PS..

Just because folk are asking questions it's not being a troll!

Most venues even if you guarantee a certain amount you still need to pay esp if its a private area as they need extra staff etc on. It's harder and harder to fund free venues. X

The reason you get free public venue hires is because they make it back at the bar when your in the door

If everyone spends £30 on booze... it's more profit than £15 entry fee and bring your own bottle

Also... you would then have to pay on top for your buffet

So....

If people aren't interested in coming along....that's fine

But dont poke holes at things that you dont care about

Having a non play sinday session...will also alow newbies to meet in a social capacity at cjs... to see if the want to come on a playing night

But without any pressure

Personally I think it's a fantastic idea....which is why um helping organise it...

And I may serenade you all with a few songs on the karaoke!

My opinion for what it’s worth is that the cost is too high. For example I wouldn’t drink anyway and my other half would be driving so he wouldn’t be drinking therefore £30 for us would be for what? All other day/evening pub events (some of which have had 50 plus people) have only ever cost approx £5 each and that included basically your money back with a drink on arrival and the larger more themed events again rarely cost that amount. I do understand that you are trying something new and I hope it’s a success but I think you are maybe limiting your audience with the price x

Even on a night out for me (non alcoholic drinks) I can easily spend £30/40 when I’m out on the bevvy say about 10vodkas and lemonade which works out about a half bottle of vodka based on 35cl measures(£9.99 in Tesco for Smirnoff) @ say about £4.50 per drink(if you find a cheap pub) so that’s £45 straight away but taking a half bottle along to cjs and paying in £15 not only have I saved myself £20 but I even get a few sausage rolls and nibbles. And imagine if I was a heavy drinker and managed to finish a bottles worth !!

Aye it’s a really expensive night out ain’t it

Well yesterday on our wee ladies day out I paid £3.95 for each one of my pints of lemonade I bought 5 drinks in the 4 hours we were there and those rugby boys bought me another two

Both sides.

It's alot of money for a social in my opinion yes.

If it's not for you then fantastic! Batter on and have a great night.

Maybe I'm too old school were most social night outs were £5 £10 at most.

Not wanting to comment on pricing as it makes no difference to us as we're on holiday Violet but out of curiosity alone, why is Caroline not allowing use of the rooms as your hiring the venue. I understand its a night for newbies to scope out the venue but it wont be a true reflection on the club scene in my opinion. There will also be regulars there who would probably be happy to introduce a newbie to a room scenario. Even if Caroline just limited you to one room. Remember clubs cater for all, so even 1 voyeuritic couple playing in 1 room so newbies could watch would be a more realistic impressionof a club. Plus if its policed by you guys as organisers they wont and shouldn't be pressured to get out of there 1st visit comfort zone. Remember Caroline is in a win win situation here to, as people may love the venue and come back on a more normal night. I dont see the reasoning behind no rooms opened.

win win for cjs as in kerching!!

I'm still struggling with the £15 For a non.playing event . Maybe if it was a open if you wanted to play then fine but as someone stated above if 50 folk go that's ALOT of money just for a venue?

The rooms could be available but then there would need to be more staff available, laundry cost, condoms, heating on upstairs, more electricity, cleaner to clean the rooms etc , it will be myself and bubbly who will be doing all the tidying up etc after the social, also if the rooms were open there would be a limit on the number of single males allowed to attend but were making this open to anyone and everyone paying the same price

People meet up socially in pubs. What the difference?. I really dont see the issue here. If you dont want to attend thats up to you but dont spoil it for others.

"£750 surely would cover that? "

Yeah 75 is looking optimistic we reckon 30-40 folk will be more realistic and please let me know if you can find a venue in Glasgow does a 7hour hire with bar, karaoke, dance floor, several separate socialising areas, buffet, unlimited soft drinks for anything less and you’ll be my best friend for life

I'm not spoiling it folk will make up their own minds whether to go or not and as many on here are regulars to cjs they will.what I'm trying to say is the price seems expensive for what's on offer and as it's been said maybe greed and profit is why?

A non playing social even is usually £5 £10 at most.

Wer not making anything out of this.... wer doing this as a way for like minded people to meet up in an environment where they can meet people with similar interest...in a non judgemental location...

Which might I add.... is what fab is supposed to be too....and you pay for that??

...............

My mum always says... if you cant say something nice.... dont say anything at all

And yet a lot of social media is now used for people to become keyboard warriors ruining peoples ideas from afar....

Or making people feel inadequate.

Or wrong

Just because it doesnt fit with their views

No ones making a profit ! If there’s any money made at the end once we’ve paid for everything then I’ll be giving those who are coming along the option of what to do with the money actually so don’t fuxking dare accuse me of that when you don’t know me !!!!

Yes because I’m running the social and the money is being paid to my Paypal account !!! Cj has told me how much the hire of the venue is and based on this we’ve calculated a minimum number of people we need to get in to cover the costs and any more people go than that then the PROFIT will go back to those who come or donated or put towards the next one !!! Get your fuxking facts straight before you start throwing accusations around !!!

Well I haven’t mentioned it because I didn’t think we would actually get the numbers so didn’t want to make promises I might not be able to keep ! People might decide they want the refund of what’s left but again I might end up having to put money on out my own pocket depending on how many folk go which I’ve had lots of experience doing when I’ve organised events in the past

Cate i think she meant details will be sent out the day before as an aid to get there, not because its a hush hush location. She says in a few posts and the thread title the location.

As this is the first organised social there will be some teething problems , whether it’s price , numbers , the Buffet etc etc.

You learn what works and what doesn’t and you move on. Take compliments and the negatives then try make the next one better

Just have a good day / night guys and it will still be early enough for groups to head out fir a drink too

Hi, we have always been quite nervous at the thought of visiting CJ's so a non playing social sounds like a great idea to us. Allows people to meet like minded new friends whilst hopefully making ourselves more confident about a return visit on a normal night.

We will chat more about it tomorrow and let you both know if we will brave it, if you will have us of course lol

We would need the postcode btw x

Well it’s a fab social so yes, you may find that people who use other sites are on here too but perhaps don’t use fab as much as the other ones. It’s only being advertised on here but perhaps that’s something to think about for future

I’ve been asked about accommodation and any hotels within the city centre are all easy reach. Charing cross is my preferred location of choice when booking a hotel close to the venue, with easy access to parking, Sunday parking is free and usually fairly easy to find however not sure on Glasgow’s restrictions on bank holiday Mondays

East kilbride

We are CJ veterans lol so have nothing bad to say about the place.

This social appears to have nothing to do with Caroline apart from renting out her premises which she has every right to do if she so chooses.

The bit i don't get is the £15 per person and stating it is a non play social ? Cost works out at £30 per couple, and £15 for single females and guys. (good deal for the guys)

A normal night at CJ's is effectively a non play social downstairs and it also is free buffet, coffee/tea and soft drinks. Where is the difference ?

Costs for couples and single females are on a par for this social but have the option to play upstairs if you wish.

Fail to see why anyone would pay the £15 for this social when there are other better options available ?

At end of the day, people will make their own minds up as to what suits them and that really is what Fab is all about.

I hope the social is a success for those that go, only time will tell.

It’s not easy to organise Social nights and put yourself out there. Not everyone is going to agree with dates, costs, venue etc but honestly, anyone who thinks to themselves I would like to try to organise a Fab night out for everyone to enjoy really needs support and encouragement. Obviously the hire costs for the venue need to be covered.

Good on you for trying something new, a Bank Holiday Sunday in CJ’s will be right up there for lots of Fabbers especially new members so all the best, we hope it’s a success for you.

I love the socials held in CJ's, no matter who's arranged them. It's relaxed and fun. If you're there please look at the notice boards you'll see the charities that have been helped out over the past year. £15. It's less than a night out in town would be. Considering soft drinks, staff, buffet, venue hire etc.

I'll see what my plans are and shout you later for a ticket if I'm free. Xxx

"Honestly Im Not trolling but come on £15 to sit in cjs kitchen with your on booze is a tad steep surely?

I shall say no more as if folk pay that then more fool them."

Hope it's a great night ...couldn't believe the negativity from certain people in this thread. They should be ashamed.

If you don't want to come that's fine, make a decision and move on, but to snipe and challenge the individuals taking the time and effort to arrange this day due to cost is out of order.

Enjoy and ignore the ranting and tight fisted individuals, better off without their negativity spoiling a good night

publicising a buisness was against fab rules seems it not anymore. Thats perhaps what folk are pointing out at £15 entry then travel cost and the btl you bring cost certainly aint cheap

Sorry ...I've just left Glasgow city centre and 2 vodka and s...small measures was just short of £9.

Getting to a club + BYOB (no playing) and meeting peeps is still well worth the money.

Old saying, if you don't have something good to say , don't say anything at all.

It's your prerogative to come or not. Accept the cost...pay it.

Decline cost .. accept it and move on. It's really that simple.

New saying ......say what you want when you want that way you learn instead of guess.

£9 not bad leaves you 5 for a kebab and still cheaper than sitting in a buisness kitchen ya winner you

It’s not a business I’m a member of fab who’s hired a private venue for a social

Entry and a bottle of cheap wine =£20. 4 glasses of wine in town=£20. If you drink more than that your in profit. Plus a light(marshmallows, candy floss? ) buffet. Personally on a bank holiday Sunday £20 doesn't go very far.

And the £9 got actually you got you something. It's £15 just to get in so a couple looking at £30 simply to ACCESS the club.

I think if it was more upfront and just admitted it was a CJs event and recruitment drive (the new thread post had details on how to register) people would be a bit more understanding.

Don't get me wrong - I think CJs does a superb job at what it does and it suits a lot of people. But dressing up 'socials' when it's clearly just a club event seems to stick in a few folks craw.

Especially when there is a totally free event elsewhere in the city the same day....

It honestly isn’t a cj’s event. The two girls have had this in mind for ages and have hired the venue. They genuinely are trying to create a different kind of Social that involves access to cj’s for people who might otherwise not feel confident to go on the usual night time events with full play. I get that some will have an issue with the price but they have to cover their costs as every host does when hiring somewhere for an organised Fab Social. X
