Spanish Island resorts will reopen in August but not to British people as we were too slow to go into lockdown.

Is this official?

If so are the resorts off limits to Swedes seeing as how they don't even have a lockdown?

Open to the Spanish, Europeans?

By nationality or place of residence?

Sorry just being nosey, as I've no plans to head to any of the Spanish islands in the next few years.

"Spanish Island resorts will reopen in August but not to British people as we were too slow to go into lockdown. "

where did this source come from please ? because in my local Spanish paper it said yesterday that the lockdown restrictions will work in two phase`s the second being the reopening of bars, Resturante`s and boarders but not till the end of the year or even the start of next year but that is the mainland and yesterday saw the toll rise by 440, a rise of 41 from the day before.

Angel Victor Torres, Canary Islands' president, told local press in an official statement: "The Canary Islands were the first to have coronavirus in Spain and now we want to be the first out of confinement."

Torres went on to confirm that the reinstigation of international tourism would follow a three-phase plan.

Residents of the Canary Islands will take first priority, with movement of locals being reintroduced first. The second phase will see Spaniards from the country's mainland able to visit the Canary Islands. Finally, holidaymakers from abroad will once again be able to access the islands.

Torres continued: "That way, in October, November or December, which are good months in the Canary Islands, we can begin to receive tourists from other countries."

Bournemouth, Notts & Spain

Yes, provincial/regional governments are pressing for some flexibility on opening but the general view from Tourism and Trade ministers this week was that was going to be much later in the year.

As much as anyone we want to get back to the islands, and our apartment, but even as Spanish residents we don't expect that before September, despite what Bonilla and Torres might want. And a group of 'wealthy' Germans just got short shrift from the Balearic president.

It's also worth bearing in mind that the government are planning de-escalation in 3 week steps, any increase in infections will result in pullback. On that basis it is going to take some time for things to be open and they could close at short notice.

Finally, some of the proposals show plastic screens between diners (and on the beach!) and/or large distances between tables. If that is the case (and the government haven't yet put their requirements down) then the whole atmosphere of resorts is going to be completely different for some time.

Wasn't it Chinese whispers that caused this in the first place.

Malaga SA

We just managed this morning to obtain a pass from the Policia to drive from Malaga to Alicante to take our mother to her home she has carers there and after 6 weeks here is desperate to be back in her own home, we asked if some of the restrictions were to be lifted shortly and were told no, nothing as yet!
