The second phase will see Spaniards from the country's mainland able to visit the Canary Islands. Finally, holidaymakers from abroad will once again be able to access the islands. Torres continued: "That way, in October, November or December, which are good months in the Canary Islands, we can begin to receive tourists from other countries."" Unfortunately they have no say, it's down to Spain, whether GC can open up for tourism.....but they can ask nicely | |||

"The expert committee agrees on the de-escalation proposal that will be presented this coming Sunday to Pedro Sánchez CANARY ISLANDS - DECONFINATION - CORONAVIRUS - COVID-19 The committee of experts from the Canary Islands, meeting during the afternoon / evening of this past Wednesday, has decided to agree on the proposal for partial de-escalation that will be presented to the central government during the telematic meeting that Ángel Víctor Torres will hold this Sunday with Pedro Sanchez and the different autonomous presidents. This is a package of measures called to apply from next week and which has been able to confirm TIME OF THE CANARY ISLANDS. In principle, the proposal brings together departures on even days for those who live in even numbers, and on odd days for those who live in odd numbers. All this with a maximum of three people together or family nucleus that coexists together. The initial idea is that four phases are carried out with one week for each of them. Regarding children under 14, they can leave from 16:00 to 19:00. In the first phase they will not be able to go to the parks, something that will be dealt with over time. "Don’t even think about travel to the Canary Islands till the end of the year.... maybe on Fall. It’s not only about restrictions from the Spanish Govt. it’s airlines and air traffic administration restrictions as well. I’m not sure if touristic companies will save their business with local tourism in summer and foreigners in fall. We have a very controlled area here in the islands.... low rate of new infections and no deceased for days, even weeks in some islands .. We hope we’ll be back to a kind of normal life soon.... but no travels and no visitors for months.... Stay safe, fabs!!! " Yep That's what the post says | |||

So it's officially 'hoped' that tourism can begin in September but a) not all airlines will be flying and nowhere near at capacity and b) a significant number of people are likely not to want to travel..... and that's only getting people there....it will be nothing like normality for a long time, the airlines are predicting 2-3 years | |||

Don't hold your breath on the penny dropping though.
Like many we missed out on April, won't be going on our October visit and can only keep fingers crossed that we "might" just might be able to visit next April. | |||

"There will be nobody there Maybe some locals?" Exactly. Locals and people staying longer term. Holidday makers are a good part of trade in certain areas, but definitely not all. In our local bar some of the old Majorero men gather to play dominoes loudly and drink Tropical! | |||

" You are very correct and hopefully it will stay that way with infections, but everyone seems to be focusing on foreign visitors coming back to spread the virus again but the one thing that does not get mentioned is the biggest threat to Fuerteventura and Canarias will come from within! You are goverend by Spain and when restrictions to travel are lifted and that will be before anyone from any other country sets foot in the canaries, mainland Spain will be your first customers and it did not go very well there and is still a concern even the crowds that were all out at the weekend when restrictions were lifted was worrying, but they will flock to canaries and as you say the virus has been contained but they will see less chance of catching it there but unfortunately more chance of them carrying it to canaries, what are your thoughts or worries on that especially as Spain basically tells you what to do.... | |||

You are very correct and hopefully it will stay that way with infections, but everyone seems to be focusing on foreign visitors coming back to spread the virus again but the one thing that does not get mentioned is the biggest threat to Fuerteventura and Canarias will come from within! " I think the residents of the Canaries need to stop looking inwards and think long and hard about the consequences of opening the islands up too early.....a second total lockdown would be far more costly than a continuation of the current one, albeit slightly relaxed over the initial restrictions | |||
