Bournemouth, Notts & Spain

According to the local press, there are changes agreed by President Torres to introduce masks in all spaces (same as most of Spain), smoking in public if social distance cannot be maintained (as Galicia) and (not sure how this will affect PDI) 'nightlife' closed, except for outside terraces at 75%

Implementation from Friday 14th.

Yes, a friend has sent announcement to me. You have to wear facemask at all times outside even if there is 2 m distance, this includes the beach. You can take it off if you go for a swim only.

That's the end of us going out to Gran Canaria in September. It will be too hot wearing a mask outside that time of year.

We won’t be going either if masks have to be worn everywhere and people can’t smoke anywhere

Doesn’t sound like a holiday to me

Just seen this reported

Due to an increase in cases of Coronavirus, masks are now obligatory in all public spaces and gatherings of more than 10 people (both outdoors and indoors) are prohibited. Smoking is now banned anywhere where you can't be 1.5 metres from others and nightclubs are to close. The measures become official tomorrow.

Masks have to be worn to get you your spot by the pool or on the beach but not while sunbathing.

We giving until middle of next week before making a decision as EJ are allowing flights changes but adding extra charges for flight alternatives

We are already in Spain so can put this announcement into some context. Basically you do need to wear a mask when walking around including walking up the beach but no one is wearing a mask sunbathing or sitting at cafes, restaurants etc. So best to keep the restriction in proportion, it certainly isn’t preventing us enjoying the cafe or beach culture

Well as our sept/Oct holiday has been cancelled again today by jet2 we may also be looking for an alternative destination or banking the money till next year. Wearing a mask whilst making the long walk down the beach is absolutely pointless. As is wearing them on the open streets. This will do nothing to stop the spread of the virus as this isn’t where the need is!

Unfortunately the fear of doing nothing has overruled the need for sensible action.

They are closing all the bars at 1:30am now. Where some have been open til 4. There’s been a sudden rise in cases, although still very low. Out tonight nearly everyone was already wearing masks everywhere.

Our flight has been cancelled for September so we will transfer accommodation over to next year now. I've accepted that a holiday abroad to any location is out for this year, you just don't know what restrictions other countries will put in place whilst there and which countries Boris will pick for quarantine.

It will be on the BOE tomorrow.

It’s been all over the news today. Very clear about wearing masks only when moving about. Not if you’re sitting down sunbathing.

I know it will be in forced very much. What will be in forced is Young people in nighttime bars and Nightclubs to close as of tomorrow.

As i Said it’s not going to be fully policed. The only thing they will come down hard on is night life.

There is 7 weeks till the start of high season 3rd of October and the government here wants to make sure it’s safe for the Scandies. Cases will stop quickly by the end of next week. 85% of the cases are under 30‘s and all coming from Family gatherings. I feel sorry for night clubs as they have done nothing wrong. It’s house Party’s that most of the cases are from.

Will be in GC from15th so will post an update but expect it to be much the same as Almeria, you move you wear a mask you sit down to eat, drink or sunbathe you don’t. As it’s too hot in August to move very much everybody seems to spend their time sitting down eating, drinking and sunbathing.

Also having visited a swingers club here can describe entering with a mask, sitting on the terrace of the club with the couple we met and doing our own thing in our own space while other couples watched on from their space and played with each other - typical for a Spanish swinger club, minimal interaction lots of voyuerism.

So do any of the clubs on GC have an outside space?

The fact that the club will have to close by 1.30 am will hit the typical Spanish swinger harder as we often find they like to talk and drink for 6 hours first before action at 3/4 am in the morning while fabbers tend to have a quick drink and dive right in!

The new mask rule states that you don't have to wear a mask when you are in nature or wide open spaces and can maintain the safety distance of 1.5 metres.

As i Said yesterday, wait till the BOE comes out. Also you can smoke as long as you’re 1.5M away from anyone.

BOC has published the rules. With respect to the 1.5m and mask exceptions, section 1.3

" d) In spaces of nature or outdoors outside population centers, the obligation to use a mask is excluded as long as the influx of people allows maintaining an interpersonal safety distance of at least 1.5 meters.

e) On the beaches and swimming pools, the obligation to use the mask during bathing and while staying in a certain space, without moving, and provided that respect for the interpersonal safety distance between all users can be guaranteed. not living together. In any case, the use of a mask will be mandatory in the entrances, trips and walks that take place in these spaces and facilities."

It looks as though most tourists over here (Germans) haven’t been informed of the changes . Hardly any were wearing masks in the streets and around the beach front shops . We haven’t been told anything different from our hotel. We only found out as friends said yesterday. We have been sat at the main part of the beach for nearly two hours and haven’t seen any police come through on their patrols as yet . And there was no olive around the yumbo at breakfast time . Guessing they will be stricter tonight at closing times.

Didn't word that very well really. When I said "just like here" I meant that most people will follow the guidelines as much as possible. Others will just do as they please and won't care as long as they get away with it. We're booked for Christmas and New Year but who knows

Still going! (3 weeks tomorrow, and yes, I'm counting!)But as we're booked into Venus Star we don't have to think about walking to beaches etc. I can see Venus Star being busier in the evenings too as club choices are so restricted. Just rethink my packing and replace Cita clothes with something much smaller to wear in the evenings at Venus. Happy days!

The Spanish government said that smokers take deeper breathes and therefore can contaminate others easier . So not total drivel. Which is why they are temporarily banning it. Although I don’t smoke it doesn’t bother me , however Mrs Boobs said she could smell Smoke on me really bad the night I stayed out til 4 on the yumbo Terraces. So there may be some logic to it

Willdo! It's usually quiet in the evenings, which is a shame, but it's nice to get out and visit the bars and clubs. I think with the current restrictions we may be making more use of the playspaces at Venus and our hot tub.

orres says that in general youngsters and many clubs did not follow rules, so they are left with no choice but to tackle problem head on, and that closures may last more than 14 days...

So as it stands the restrictions are only due to last for 14 days. Now that kind of makes sense as the islands will want to get the Spanish back to the main land and away from the islands ASAP. August is Spanish holiday month.

the wetlands

The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, believes that it is "evident" that the island's "main problem" today with the spread of the coronavirus, is in the outbreaks generated by nightlife, for which he foresees at least two weeks of closing of clubs and similar premises.

In an interview on the SER radio network, Torres explained that he decided to have the emergency meeting with his Governing Council, to take tougher measures advised by medical experts, after seeing how in the course of a week the "eight or ten daily positives" that the Canary Islands had, began to "multiply" and became "40, 50 or 70 daily, and yesterday exceeded 100".

The president said that, this time, unlike at the start of the pandemic, the vast majority of the newly infected are young people under 30 years of age, who have contracted covid-19 by ignoring the instructions that the authorities have been giving for weeks, regarding the use of masks and safe distancing, and have a high viral load and ability to infect others.

"A sector of the population is behaving incorrectly in nightlife venues and family parties," he pointed out, before reminding that 95% of the protagonists of the new outbreaks in Gran Canaria, and 85% of those in the the rest of the islands, are under 30 years old.

"The place that we have to fight is the one where the greatest contagion is occurring: nightlife, social parties, parties with friends at home, on rooftops, in spaces where they share barbecue pits etc", continued the president.

From today (Friday), nightlife venues in the Canary Islands are prohibited from opening except those that have an outdoor terrace, where they can serve their customers seated and provided that they do not exceed 75% of their capacity.

As an example of the concern that this sector arouses in the Government of the Canary Islands and the experts who advise it, Torres reiterated that the largest outbreak in progress at this time in the islands, "was caused by three discos in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and that they are in the environment, so an investigation has even been opened."

The president of the Canary Islands recalled that the islands were one of the later communities to allow the reopening of nightlife, and that until yesterday, they did so by maintaining restrictions such as the prohibition of using dance floors.

"We never approved, for example, that you could dance in clubs. However, we are aware, from police reports and technicians, that there has been dancing in the clubs, and that the rules have been broken by some owners. I do not want to tarnish everyone, because there have been adherents, but the evidence is that this is where we have the main problem, and when we have a problem, we have to tackle it," he added.

Torres has acknowledged that the decision to go back on the nightlife regulation is "drastic and financially painful", but he also considers it necessary and believes that it will last at least the standard time of a quarantine, 14 days.

"Any measure is reviewable and we will meet again later this month. But it is foreseeable that this will not be for less than 15 days, it may even be a little more," he concluded.

"Smoking should be banned in all public places including terraced places, people blowing fumes everywhere is just like sneezing without using tissues or hands.

What drivel.

Actually I think it’s more they don’t want you to spread covid while giving yourself cancer

Many will be worried about the quarantine and maybe can't do it because of work.

Or... they don't want people getting covid from their breath while they are getting cancer from passive smoking.

Well I find it ironic

Has pride still been postponed till October? If so you have Pride, freedom week and Winter Pride....

Germany for instance has said that while they have a problem with travel to mainland Spain but have no problem with the Canaries.

"Much the same here at Venus Star, just a handful of couples. Weekend was OK as locals came in "

Just back from weekend Venus. We arrived last Friday morning and was oke, about 17 bungalows filled and Saturday a few day guests, nice ambiance but Sunday all changed, more then 10 couples left and only 2 new arrivals......today before we left 5 couples at swimming pool.

Sex with others not allowed in public areas (keep social distance) in public/swimming pool area face masks mandatory all the time when you walk around in the whole resort & restaurant.

Stricked rules!!

From Friday night clubs all closed again and bars shut at 01.00, it's devastating for everyone

Ok this thread is becoming too gloomy so here’s the good news from GC: the sun is shining, the wine is flowing, our bums are brown, the playroom is open, there are plenty of sunbeds, the bed needs clean sheets again and the wife is horny

Finally! A positive note. We'll be there in a couple of weeks. 10 days of sunshine in a naked libertine environment. Friends to catch up with & plenty of wine and cocktails, what's not to love.
