From next week, all international arrivals into the UK, have to provide a negative test, taken up to 72 hours, before their journey began. Includes UK nationals. Source, Grant Schapps, BBC news..

But if rules continue test to get there.. test to get home..and if PCR min £200 per person on top of cost of flights and hotel.. not really sure if you want to be hunting round for a clinic 48bhours before you come home..with a chance of a positive test !!

Yes it's all added expense to consider, they haven't made it clear yet, but they may accept the rapid lateral flow tests, which are cheaper. We obviously can't travel at the moment, but there are those still on holiday who need to get home, who have no choice.

I don't think the gov.UK site has been updated yet, as no start date was given, he just said next week.

I had to have a PCR test to fly home at a big Valencia hospital a few weeks ago, walk in service at 8.30 pm, €125, the result came through 9 1/2 hrs later.

They also offer a fast track service, result in 1 hr for €190.

It's expensive isn't it, but I think it needs to be done..

If you have a negative test does that mean you no longer need to quarantine on arrival back in UK?

"If you have a negative test does that mean you no longer need to quarantine on arrival back in UK?"

From what I've seen on news reports you still have to quarantine for 5 days when you are back in the UK!!!

"If you have a negative test does that mean you no longer need to quarantine on arrival back in UK?"

The source you have quoted (BBC) have consistently said you will still have to quarantine even if the test was negative when you return to the UK! Though one thing remains unknown is what tests are valid, but what the government have indicated is that almost any kind of covid test, so long as it's from an accredited source, will be valid. Half-baked or what.

The report says if you are travelling from a country that isn't on the travel corridor list, you still have to quarantine for 10 days regardless of the result.

Also no starting date, only 'next week', but it's clear that travellers will have to have some kind of test...patchy as always...

Let's hope by the summer the virus is in serious decline worldwide and you don't have to have a test before you go out and must be vaccinated (though hoping we will be by then anyway), a test to come back (and hoping it's a valid test and not get fined £500) and then quarantined. Plus hopefully insurance is not ridiculously expensive (but if that's the case then so be it), flights are not crazy prices (but they will be) and there are no travel bans.

So it's reasonable to expect £300 for tests going out and coming back per person plus higher insurance. Hopefully things will change before the summer.

Let's all isolate the crap out of this virus!

Assume it will be around £300-£500 per person more expensove than normal and if it's less than that then it's a result. This Could be the future but then we will adjust as we always do and not spending last year means many of us will have some pennies saved.
