Maspalomas/PDI kiosks and Sunloungers

Just back from a lovely week at Kiosk 4 in Maspalomas. There's not much info online as to post Covid updates so thought i'd write a quick guide for anyone headed there. The new Kiosks aren't presently open. Apparently due to politics, the council want too much rent money. Bit of a shame as you lose some social element mixing with those not in your immediate vicinity. No word on when they will open. The loungers and parasols cost 2.50 Euro each so 7.50 for a set. They aren't taking cash any longer so card or phone payments to avoid disappointment though the attendants always appreciate a spare euro or 2 as a tip. As for drinks there are regular people walking around selling cold alcoholic and soft drinks as well as pringles. Aside from that seems business as usual

Thanks for the info . Do the attendants still put up the big blue wind breaks on a windy day ?

Lol yes the lookey lookey guys were selling blankets and some knockoff Gucci handbags! Yup the windbreaks still go up in high winds but we didn't experience any. The attendants are very friendly too. Look out for the sea on rough days (yellow /red flags) as the lifeguards aren't that close by and the waves can be strong. Also no toilets so about a 15 min walk to nearest facilities by the lighthouse (They cost a Euro to use)

Sorry to be coarse, but are these f*****g kiosks ever going to be opened? They have lifted these impressive new structures into place along the beach and then silence!

Does anyone have any insider knowledge please?

We think the same. This has been going on for years now! How hard is it to sort this out and get the kiosks open. Even by Spanish standards this is really slow

By all previous accounts, money owed from the old kiosks was(and may still be) the issue but I think visitor numbers, or lack of them, over the last couple of years(covid obviously), has probably put off anyone a) from paying to have the matter resolved and b) from opening when they are likely to run at a loss.

Unfortunately, a Fab forum is likely to have little influence on when they will open??

Such a shame because they really are a great place for socialising, they really add to the beach vibe.

We were the same but took the view that we could pause/cancel cards on our phone instantly in case of theft but its such a friendly place that people do watch out for you. Our old failsafe is to take a sandwich box and bury it under the sand with valuables when we take a dip. The obvious thing would be to put a bank of lockers attached to those shiny new kiosks but that probably won't happen! Alas they are quite strict with cashless, not the attendants fault but we saw multiple occasions where other beachgoers had to step in and shout someone the cost on their card in return for cash. Just thought best to let people know before they set out

Well, it's been 4 weeks since the last update regarding the opening of the kiosks on the Maspalomas Beach.

Does anyone have any new information please?

As of last week…..Kiosk's not open ….. sunbeds & unbrellas €2.50 each a day . Card only . Hawkers up & down the beach all day selling drinks & Pringle (singular)

We had a lovely time but have to say it’s nowhere near the same experience without the Kiosk open .

I believe that Covid was the actual reason it was introduced....and it's probably now also easier for accounting/tax purposes, as the cash system was by all accounts dubious in that respect

Get a Revolut card, or similar and change money into Euros on it. If you take your phone to the beach, Revolut has one time only, virtual card built into the App, for added security

You get them from the Post Office in the UK. The process takes about 48 hours. You then link it to your bank account and then charge it using an app. Once charged you can then buy just about any currency at what we think are good rates.

The only downside is these cards expire after a while. But this could be considered a plus if you only want it for your holiday.

Our advice is to start the process of getting your card at least a week before you go on holiday because you have to wait for your card to arrive and then wait again till they link it to your bank account.

If you sign up for Revolut you can use the virtual Card on the App immediately....far better exchange rate too. You should check it out, lots of security features, instant notifications of any transactions on your account etc Only drawbacks are commission on currency exchange at weekends(free during weekdays) and only allowed to withdraw £200 a month cash, with the free account ...but you can use contactless as much as you want. Wouldn't be without it for travel now
