Playa del Ingles, Gran Canaria

Some people asked me about the island typical dishes and handmade crafts after posting a reply in the forum.

Maybe I forgot some of them,

Starters:

-Papas arrugadas con mojo rojo (boiled potatoes without Canary island red sauce “Mojo”)

-Gofio escaldao (triturated and toasted corn with fish soup)

-Queso asado con miel de Palma (Canary white cheese grilled with Palm honey)

-Pulpo frito con mojo verde (fried octopus with green Canary sauce)

-Caracoles (snails cooked at canary style)

-Chorizo de Teror con bizcocho (toasted breed with pork meat cream)

Main dishes:

-Sancocho (salat boiled fish cooked at canary style)

-Carne fiesta o carne cochino en adobo (fried pork squares at canary style)

-Pescado a la espalda (grilled fish with garlic and parsley, especially Sama, Fula or Bocinegro breeds)

-Carne de cabra (goat meat at canary style)

-Puchero (potage with pork meat)

Desserts

-Bienmesabe (almond sweet cream)

-Bizcochos de Moya (typical mini cakes)

-Suspiros (sugar buns)

-Truchas (pumpkin pie)

HANDMADE crafts:

-Timple (little guitar from Canary island)

-Naife (Canary knife. This word “naife” a very representative heritage from the old island and English people relationship. At different way of the rest of Spain where people call “Cuchillo”, in Canary Island is called “Naife” the sound of knife)

-cestos (baskets with dry cane)

-Ropa de Calado (clothes at old typical style)

-Bags (made of goat guts)

-Leather Bracelets and necklaces

Etc…

Hope you enjoy the meal!
